Ancajas, 33, showed flashes of his vintage form as he threw crisp jabs and his patented left straight on top. Casero was game throughout the contest, but always looked a step or two behind his Filipino foe.
Ancajas opted to work behind his jab all night, throwing the occasional right hook counter, keeping his opponent at bay. Two of the three judges saw the fight for Ancajas after eight rounds, improving his record to 36-4-2 with 24 knockouts.

Alas Pilipinas Women escape Indonesia to seize SEA V. League bronze
The Alas Pilipinas Women recovered from a Set 3 collapse to carve a 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13 win over Indonesia and capture the bronze medal at the 2025 SEA V. League Leg 1 on Sunday in Thailand. The Filipinas, who ended the first leg with a 1-2 win-loss card, cruised to their third-straight third-place finish after seizing the same output in both legs of the 2024 edition. Indonesia, on the other hand, capped off its run with a winless 0-3 campaign. Alas struggled to put a stop on the tandem of Ersandrina Devega and Megawati Pertiwi, who both led Indonesia's convincing Set 3 comeback that dragged the Filipinas to a fourth. But Alas roared back in the fourth frame with Alyssa Solomon capping off a scorching 4-0 start before Fifi Sharma came up with back-to-back rejections that sent the Philippines to a 10-3 cushion. Solomon continued to dazzle after the former National University standout launched an ace and unleashed a hammer from the back to make it a huge 12-5 advantage for Alas. Eya Laure made her presence felt with two consecutive kills from the left wing before team captain and seasoned setter Jia De Guzman scored from the service line, sending the Philippines to an 18-6 lead. But Indonesia refused to surrender after unloading back-to-back blocks against Laure while Arneta Putri Amelian served an ace to fuel a 3-0 run, 18-9, and force Alas to call for a timeout. Alas heeded the call with young guns Solomon and Angel Canino scoring the next three points before Sharma took advantage of a one-man block and converted a quick to clinch the match point at 24-14. Canino put the punctuation after soaring from the back to seal the deal. Tournament recap —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Amoranto Sports Complex opens swimming pool to public
The Quezon City local government unit (LGU) officially opened an Olympic-sized swimming pool and other facilities at the Amoranto Sports Complex on Saturday. According to the Quezon City Government Facebook page, Amoranto Sports Complex inaugurated its three-lane swimming pool, offices, elevator, lifeguard station, and 480-seat capacity bleachers. In a separate social media post, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said aside from the pool, the Amoranto Sports Complex now has locker rooms, a dug-out, a shower area, and a warm-up pool. Three lifeguards were also deployed to ensure the safety of pool users. The pool is open every day to individual or group swimmers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be an entrance fee of P100 per head and P1,500 for 15 pax. If over 15 pax, there will be an additional P100 per pax (maximum of 20 pax per group) Quezon City student residents will have a 20% discount. In his State of the Nation Address last July 28, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed concern over the growing number of overweight Filipino adults, calling for a nationwide shift to healthier, more active lifestyles through accessible community-based fitness initiatives. Marcos then announced that the Philippine Sports Commission will open its facilities to the public for free. "Simula ngayon, bubuksan ng Philippine Sports Commission sa publiko ang kanilang mga track and field oval sa Pasig, Maynila, at Baguio, upang makapag-jogging na kayo nang libre," he said. (Starting today, the Philippine Sports Commission will open its track and field ovals in Pasig, Manila, and Baguio to the public for free jogging.) Among the PSC facilities opened to the public is the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex's track and field oval in Malate, Manila. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/KG, GMA Integrated News
