Paresh Rawal says he's forever grateful to Rajkumar Santoshi for Andaaz Apna Apna: ‘I used to play bohot gatiya kism ke villain'

Long before Paresh Rawal found his comedic rhythm with director Priyadarshan in a series of laugh riots, he had already built an enviable reputation working with some of Bollywood's finest comedy filmmakers — from David Dhawan to Rajkumar Santoshi. With films like Haseena Maan Jayegi, Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and the now cult-classic Andaaz Apna Apna, Paresh had carved a space for himself in the hearts of audiences through his superb comic timing.
Now, as Andaaz Apna Apna gears up for a theatrical re-release, Paresh reflected on the film's making in a conversation with Radio Nasha, offering fans a peek into its behind-the-scenes magic — particularly the unforgettable kidnapping scene. Speaking about the sequence, Paresh revealed it was shot in a single take. 'Phir chahe woh Rajkumar Santoshi ho ya phir David Dhawan ho, woh log comedy ke scenes mein zyada cut nahi karte hai… single shot hi rakhte hai… jiss wajah se aapko theatre ki feel aati hai,' (Whether it's Rajkumar Santoshi or David Dhawan, they don't use too many cuts in comic scenes… they prefer single shots… which is why it feels like live theatre.) He compared this approach to performing on stage, crediting it for the natural energy and chemistry between actors that makes such scenes memorable. 'Some of the dialogues in that scene were crackling,' he said, adding that it was all thanks to the organic give-and-take between him, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan.
When asked about the enduring popularity of his character in the film, Paresh humbly credited the writers and directors for taking a chance on him. 'Unn dino mein main toh bohot gatiya kism ke villain roles kar raha tha… so iss kism ka role milna… I'm forever grateful to Rajkumar Santoshi.' (Back then, I used to do some really terrible villainous roles… so getting a role like this… I'm forever grateful to Rajkumar Santoshi.) But perhaps the most surprising revelation? Rawal admitted he has never watched the full film. 'I've never watched the full film… never got the chance.' But with the re-release set for April 25, he will definitely try checking it out.

No food, just water for 9 days: Nargis Fakhri explains her fitness secret but doesn't recommend it

After a break from the limelight, actress Nargis Fakhri has returned with the upcoming comedy film Housefull 5, featuring a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Sanjay Dutt. While her film choices have been selective, Nargis has consistently been in the public eye for her health and wellness practices. In a recent interview, she revealed the unconventional method she uses to maintain a sharp jawline and glowing skin—fasting on just water for nine days, twice a year. Water-Only Fasting for 18 Days a Year Speaking with Soha Ali Khan on Hauterrfly's YouTube channel, Nargis shared details of her rigorous detox routine. She said she undergoes complete fasting—no food, just water—for nine days at a time, twice a year. While she admitted the results are visibly striking, with improved facial definition and skin clarity, she was clear that the method is extremely difficult and not something she would recommend to others. The revelation visibly shocked Soha during the conversation. Nargis acknowledged that many people search for quick fixes when it comes to fitness , but she insisted there is no shortcut to health. She said her own results come from a balanced approach rather than just extreme measures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Gorgeous Female Athletes Ranked. 'It's always a combination,' she explained, referring to her regular habits like sleeping at least eight hours every night and staying hydrated. She also focuses on eating nutritious foods that are rich in essential vitamins and minerals. The emphasis, she stressed, is on long-term wellness rather than crash diets or quick solutions. Sleep, Hydration, and Meal Timing Other Bollywood celebrities have also embraced holistic approaches to health. Kareena Kapoor Khan, for instance, recently shared her routine of having dinner by 6:30 p.m. and maintaining an early bedtime. Veteran actress Mumtaz spoke in a Radio Nasha interview about cutting off meals entirely by 5–6 p.m. following a recommendation by Akshay Kumar. She also sticks to clean eating, regular workouts, and strict personal care habits. Mindful Living Over Fads Although fasting plays a role in Nargis's regimen, she made it clear that long-term discipline is what keeps her fit at 45. She focuses on quality sleep, hydration, and balanced meals. Her message aligns with what several celebrities now promote—a shift from fad diets to a more sustainable and realistic lifestyle. Nargis Fakhri made her debut in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Rockstar and later did roles in Madras Cafe, Main Tera Hero, and Housefull 3.

Producer of Akshay Kumar's Rs 300 crore box office flop has built and sold 45 buildings in Mumbai, owns a two-acre studio in London

Actor Akshay Kumar has had a difficult run at the box office in the last few years, with around a dozen flops to his name. His latest film, Housefull 5, did decently well but the film had a massive star cast to share the credit of the success. Before that, Kesari Chapter 2, did moderately well, as did the action movie Sky Force. But neither of them was a hit. Several of his biggest recent flops, films such as Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), Mission Raniganj, and Bell Bottom, were all produced by Pooja Entertainment, the banner operated by Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky. The duo were under fire last year when many people who worked on BMCM alleged that they hadn't been paid for their services after the film flopped. Produced on a reported budget of Rs 300 crore, the movie made just around Rs 100 crore globally. The same was the case with Ganapath, starring Tiger Shroff, which made less than Rs 20 crore. In fact, the banner hasn't released a proper hit film in two decades. But the Bhagnanis don't rely completely on the movie business to earn a living. They also have a flourishing real estate and construction arm, and Vashu Bhagnani spoke about it in a recent interview. Chatting with Ronak Kotecha on YouTube, he said, 'I went to London in 2018, and I wondered what to do. So, I bought a building in Mayfair. Then, I made five or six movies there… I'm a developer. I don't believe in making money by investing your own money in projects. I make buildings like I make films… I'm the only person from Bollywood who has set up a studio in London. We have two floors with 60-foot high ceilings. It's a two-acre property, I have a VFX set-up there, I have vanity vans there.' Also read – Vashu Bhagnani says people claimed he was bankrupt, had run away after Bade Miyan Chote Miyan; answers if he's paid everyone: 'Even if I haven't, what's your problem?' He continued, 'I can't even speak English properly. When I was going to London, my daughter told me, 'What will you do there? You can't even speak English properly, and you won't understand what they're saying'. I said, 'Let me try'. As soon as I landed, I set up a studio there. I made two buildings, and I made six films in five years. I used to make one building and one film, one building and one film. I've made 45 buildings in Mumbai so far, and they've all been sold. But I never sold the IP of my films. I still own my movies…' In the same interview, he spoke about the difficulties he experienced after the BMCM controversy. 'I was very upset by those stories. Imagine that I was actually bankrupt and I'd sold off my building. If I had actually sold it off, it would've been to pay people back, right? What's wrong in that? I'm not a corporate employee, I'm doing business. If I suffer a loss, I will have to make up for it. But people spun this into a negative story. They said I've run away, that I don't have money for food, that I couldn't even afford flight tickets,' he said.

Ishaan Khatter recalls pulling Amitabh Bachchan's beard on the set of Sooryavansham: ‘I was calling Bade Miyan'

On a lazy afternoon, if you flip through TV channels and land on Set Max, chances are you'll find Amitabh Bachchan's Sooryavansham playing. Though the film didn't do well in theatres when it was released in 1999, it has gained a cult following over the years. Those who grew up in the early 2000s watched Big B in a double role in the movie, but for actor Ishaan Khatter, the experience was more personal. He actually visited the sets of the film as a child, thanks to his mother, Neelima Azeem, who was part of the film's cast. Neelima Azeem played Mrs Varun Singh in the movie, while Ishaan's father, Rajesh Khattar, played her on-screen husband. In a recent chat with Mid-Day, Ishaan shared a sweet story from his childhood. 'I think my mom once did a children's show called Nayantara, and I appeared on it too. It was a talk show where she spoke about parenting and motherhood. I've always been fascinated by film sets. She once took me to the sets of Sooryavansham, and apparently, I kept saying 'Bade Miyan, Bade Miyan' to Amitabh Bachchan, because I had seen Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,' he laughed. But what happened next made the memory unforgettable. Ishaan said, 'He (Amitabh Bachchan) picked me up! And my mom later told me, 'You were the only kid he lifted, and you pulled his beard!' And he just smiled and said, 'It's okay.' These are the stories I've grown up hearing from my mom.' 'At the time, she was trying to get me admitted into a school and Jamnabai was then one of the nicest schools. She was having trouble getting admission for me there and he very kindly, personally went and spoke to the authorities,' he said.
