Why dead woman had 26 iPhones glued to her body theory emerges

Daily Record3 days ago
Investigators have shared a new theory about why a young woman who sadly died was found to have 26 iPhones stuck to her body after resuscitation attempts.
A new theory over why a dead woman was found with 26 iPhones glued to her body has emerged.

Brazilian investigators were stunned to find the dead woman, 20, with dozens of mobile phones stuck to her body, reports the Mirror. She died on July 29 after she became ill on a bus which stopped at a restaurant in the city of Guarupuava in the central region of Paraná.

She suffered a cardiac arrest before a resuscitation was attempted for 45 minutes. Following her death, investigators found packages stuck to her body, along with mobile phones and drinks that were hidden in her luggage.

A new theory has now emerged suggesting the woman had been smuggling items before her death. Investigators said the items found on her body reinforced the hypothesis of illegal trafficking.
The woman's body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute with the seized items being taken to the headquarters of the federal police, which is now investigating the case. Reports following her death said the woman displayed symptoms that were consistent with a post-seizure and that she had suffered respiratory distress.

Her heart then stopped and she stopped breathing. Sniffer dogs found no drugs on her person and experts for the Civil Police were called to investigate. "The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death," police said according to Brazilian news outlet Globo.
"According to preliminary information, the woman, who was alone, was traveling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo. The 26 cell phones that were glued to her body were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service," police said according to Brazilian news outlet Globo."
The identity of the woman has not been released by authorities. An investigation remains ongoing.

It comes after Brazilian journalist Clara Nery suffered a shocking incident as she prepared to report live on camera. The TV correspondent for the Band network, Clara was mugged on a pavement in Botafogo, in southern Rio de Janeiro.
In the shocking clip, Clara could be seen typing intently on her phone in the run up to the live broadcast, as a man on a motorbike appears in the background and slowly closes in on the reporter. While driving past Clara, the assailant could be seen reaching out and swiping the journalist's phone from her hand.
The footage then showed Clara screaming in shock and swearing before she lunged to get her phone. She later said: 'I had my back turned when this man rode by on a motorcycle on the sidewalk and tried to take my phone. In the video, you can see the moment he puts his hand on my phone and takes it from me.
'Luckily, and despite his lack of skill, I managed to retrieve the phone. But we already have the security camera footage, the camera that managed to focus on his face.'

Child tortured to death by evil grandma after dad's feet amputated

James Alexander Hurley, known as "Alex" to loved ones, had been living with his paternal grandmother following the tragic death of his father. A tragic 12-year-old boy knew who plenty of tragedy in his short life was tortured to death by his own grandmother. ‌ James Alexander Hurley, known as "Alex" to loved ones, had been living with his paternal grandmother, Patricia Batts, and her husband, James Sasser, in Yellowstone, Montana, following the tragic death of his father, Tommy Tate. ‌ As reported by the Mirror, a devastating accident had left Tommy requiring multiple amputations, including both his feet. He died following complications from surgery in 2018 leaving he little boy was heartbroken. ‌ His mother, Alicia, who lived in Texas, had custody of Alex - however, it was decided it was best for the child to remain in Montana for the remainder of the school year. He'd settled in well at school and had made friends and he had a home with Batts and Sasser. On the surface, it had seemed like the right choice. ‌ However, by the summer of 2019, Alicia grew concerned about Alex, who would only communicate via text or Facebook messenger - never over the phone or FaceTime call. He also repeatedly told her he was too busy to speak. Alicia, worried, endeavoured to bring her son home to Texas to be with her, but was soon met with resistance from Batts, Crime Monthly reports. While Alicia tried in vain to contact her son, she had no idea that evil Batts had taken Alex out of school in September 2019, under the guise of homeschooling him. Alex was rarely seen by anyone else outside of the immediate household from this point on. Testimony later given by Batts and Sasser's daughter, Madison, sheds light on what life had been like for Alex behind closed doors. ‌ Madison, who was just a teenager at the time, was charged over her involvement in the devastating events, but was ultimately given probation in exchange for testifying against her parents. Addressing the court during the eventual shocking trial, attorney Elizabeth Montoya told of how Madison had witnessed her parents' torturous behaviour towards Alex, which included slapping, kicking and punching. ‌ Recounting how Madison has seen Batts and Sasser put Alex in "chokeholds and deprive him of love and attention", Ms Montoya added that this was an environment where "Alex was the enemy. Madison's parents were the generals, and the other kids in the household were soldiers". Alex's mum, Alicia, believes the sick couple were only motivated to keep her son in their care out of greed, as they'd been receiving social security benefits that should have gone to the little boy in the wake of his father's death. Alex died during the night on February 3, 2020, and when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found his body on the floor of the living room. He was bruised, with signs of malnourishment, but those in the household claimed not to know what had happened to him. ‌ In an attempt to paint her grandson as a problem child, Batts told investigators that Alex had been self-harming and hearing voices, having entered a downward spiral after his dad's death. It's believed she'd hoped this would explain away his grave injuries, but officers weren't fooled. An autopsy determined that Alex had died of blunt force trauma to the back of his head, while footage showing him being tortured was recovered from phones seized from family members. ‌ Batts pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide in May 2020. She also pleaded guilty to felony criminal child endangerment for failing to seek medical assistance for Alex after he was fatally injured, and to witness tampering by attempting to get family members to give false statements to investigators, as per NBC Montana. In August 2023, Batt was given a life sentence for killing Alex, and was also handed 10-year sentences for each of the other charges. District Judge John C. Brown stated at the time: 'This is a horrific case of child abuse. It was totally unnecessary, and it was done with malevolence." After she was sentenced, Batts issued just one simple statement: "I regret not being the grandmother Alex should have had." Meanwhile, in 2022, Sasser was sentenced to 100 years behind bars for his role in Alex's death. Sasser, who pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide, child endangerment, and tampering with a witness, acknowledged during his sentencing that he had failed to protect Alex.

Mum left 16 month old home alone to die when she went on holiday

Kristel Candelario, who left her 16-month-old daughter Jailyn behind while she went on holiday, has explained why she carried out such a 'diabolical act', which resulted in a tragedy that continues to haunt investigators A mother who was sentenced to life in prison has opened up about why she left her 16-month-old daughter at home alone while she headed off on holiday from June 6 to June 16. Kristel Candelario, from Cleveland, Ohio, left little Jailyn unattended for 10 days while she took a trip to Detroit, Michigan, and Puerto Rico. ‌ When she returned, Candelario, who acknowledged having "committed a diabolical act", found the toddler unresponsive and called the police. The 'extremely dehydrated" little girl was discovered in a filthy playpen covered with faeces and urine. ‌ Tragically, she was declared dead by the Cleveland Division of Police (CPD), with investigators describing the case as the most harrowing they'd had to deal with in the course of their careers. In February 2024, Candelario pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder and one count of child endangerment and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. ‌ Candelario has since told her side of the story, explaining that she had been suffering mental health problems in the run-up to her daughter's death. It comes after a woman, 20, was found dead on bus with 26 iPhones glued to her body. Speaking with NBC News from her prison in Cleveland, Candelario shared how she'd been hospitalised in January and February 2023 on account of her mental health issues. On one of these occasions, she'd been experiencing suicidal thoughts. ‌ Candelario told the publication: "For that reason, I was in the hospital without being able to walk for exactly almost two weeks. And in the month of March, I mean, my [now] ex-boyfriend and I wanted to take a vacation." Freeing her ex of any blame in the matter, Candelario emphasised that she'd informed him that she'd be leaving Jailyn in the care of her mother. Explaining that the decision to travel arose from her mental state at that time, Candelario said: "Actually, I left for the trip as a result of an impulse that I had, that I took, grabbed my four things, and ran out of the house like when someone is being chased. 'It's not that at that moment I thought that, 'Ah, I was going to Puerto Rico ... I was going to be super comfortable.' No, I never thought that. I simply wanted to get away from a life of stress, depression, and anxiety. I didn't want to continue living, because I had had a lot of problems in my life.' ‌ Others on the trip reportedly noticed that Candelario wasn't acting like herself, and she also recalled how, on one of the days, her then-boyfriend asked her about Jailyn. She responded that the little girl was fine, remembering: "When he mentioned [the girl] to me, it was like when someone reminds you of someone who's not with you at that moment." For a few moments, Candelario considered contacting a neighbour to check on Jailyn, but never did so, a decision she now regards as a "mistake." ‌ At this time, Candelario's parents were away on a separate trip with her other child, a then-seven-year-old girl. They believed Candelario had stayed at home to care for Jailyn and had no idea that their baby granddaughter had been left alone in her playpen, with a few bottles of milk. Opening up about the moment she returned and found Jailyn unresponsive, Candelario, who has described her daughters as her "whole world", shared: 'That's when my world fell apart. Not because maybe I was thinking about going to prison. That's the least important thing, because one is an adult and one can accept one's mistakes. [I was in] despair. I felt she could be saved; things didn't have to happen that way because my daughter was doing well, I always took care of her.' ‌ During Candelario's sentencing, as per CNN, the court heard how Jailyn's screams were captured on a neighbour's doorbell camera. Addressing the Cleveland courtroom, forensic pathologist Elizabeth Mooney emphasised the agony the child must have endured in her final days. Showing emotion, Ms Mooney told the court: 'The pain and suffering she endured lasted not only hours, not days, but possibly even a week. This feeling of abandonment for days on end, coupled with the pain of starvation and extreme thirst, is a type of suffering I don't think any of us could ever fully fathom.' While handing down sentencing, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan Sheehan told Candelario: 'The bond between a mother and a child is one of the most purest and most sacred bonds. It's a relationship built on love, trust, and unwavering protection. … You committed the ultimate act of betrayal. ‌ 'That little baby persevered, waiting for someone to save her. And you could have done that with a simple phone call. Instead, I see photos of you on a beach while your child was eating her own faeces in an attempt to survive.' He continued: 'Just as you didn't let Jailyn out of her confinement until she died, so too you should spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom,' Sheehan said. 'The only difference is that prison will at least feed you.'

Coronation Street fans 'rumble' who Floyd phoned about Lisa in 'Tia twist'

Coronation Street fans saw Lisa Swain's therapist Floyd making a 'suspicious' phone call about her after their session on the ITV soap, and fans think it's linked to Tia Wardley Therapist Floyd on Coronation Street may have some explaining to do after a "suspicious" phone call. ‌ Now, some fans think they have figured out who he was on the phone to in a cryptic chat after a therapy session with Lisa Swain. It could be a mystery new character if fans are correct, with viewers now suspecting Floyd could be corrupt. ‌ It comes as Carla Connor was snooping into the death of partner Lisa's ex-wife Becky Swain, who died in the line of duty years earlier. Lisa is also digging into the police officer's death, and she tearfully confessed to Floyd on Friday that she believed her wife may have been in trouble, amid continuing mystery surrounding what led to her death. ‌ As she confessed her fears, explaining that the Radcliffe brothers had implied there was more to what happened to her, she admitted her daughter Betsy Swain had visited one of them, Logan, for answers. But Floyd suggested to her the pair may just be trying to get to her. He asked her if she truly thought her wife was corrupt, or maybe Logan and Matty Radcliffe were lying because they had a grudge against her after their recent arrests. Lisa appeared to come around to the latter idea, while she admitted "you never truly know anyone". ‌ As the session ended, Floyd checked in with her and she said: "Maybe you're right," questioning if she'd "been kidding herself" as Floyd seemed keen for her not to believe Becky was corrupt. It's then as Lisa left the room that Floyd got his phone out and called a mystery person. He told the mystery caller: "I think I made a breakthrough with Swain." So was he calling someone to let them know Lisa may drop the Becky case? ‌ Was it Costello, who was seen on his phone after? Was it the person who later told a prisoner to attack Logan after his comments to Carla? Viewers even wondered if it was the mystery Tia Wardley, the name Logan gave to Carla. One fan said: "I think we were meant to believe Floyd was ringing Costello after Lisa's therapy session but what if it was this Tia Wardley??" Another fan said: "Costello." A third fan posted: "Floyd the therapist is compromised, he's part of the it! Costello sent him to shut Lisa down and stop her digging into Becky." Another viewer said: "Who was Floyd on the phone to - was it Costello?"
