Andy Farrell sings praises of 'absolutely immense' Lions duo as team selection is justified in Australia win
Farrell said he had noted the media commentary around the form of the two flankers when he included them in his team at the expense of Wales captain Jac Morgan and Irish loose forward Josh van der Flier.
Curry scored one try and provided a pass for another, while Beirne was hard on the ball at the breakdown throughout the match at Lang Park, where the Lions earned a comfortable 27-19 victory.
"Immense, absolutely immense," Farrell told reporters.
"Big game players, who were probably challenged by a good few. And I think it told the story. I think Tom Curry put in some really nice shots defensively.
"Tadhg got the turnover very early doors that set the tone really, and I don't think it stopped there. He carried on for the rest of the game.
"(Number eight) Jack Conan's carrying was very much on the front foot, wasn't it? So those three guys, I'm sure they'd be delighted with how they responded to selection.
"They are men of their word and they delivered."
Farrell was also impressed with how effective the more direct running from the Lions was as they scored three tries in the first 41 minutes.
"You could see the difference in our game," he said. "As I've said all along, the hardest part about any team coming together is gelling attack because it takes a lot of cohesion for that to happen.
"So we're trying to find out about ourselves in that regard."
Farrell was disappointed that the Lions let Australia back into the game in the last quarter when the Wallabies scored two tries.
"I thought we let them back into the game in regard to a lack of discipline in the second half, which gave them a bit of a sniff to get back in the game," he said.
"Physically, I suppose when you give a couple of penalties away, or you're getting warnings, or there's a loose offload or a loose carry, that suppresses you a little bit, and we started losing a few collisions.
"(But) I actually believe that's a fantastic place for us to be, because there's so much more in us."

Minnesota Twins narrowly beat Washington Nationals 1-0; Zebby Matthews pitches 6 scoreless innings
Zebby Matthews pitched a two-hitter over six scoreless innings in the best start of his career and the Minnesota Twins started a pivotal homestand with a 1-0 victory over a wild MacKenzie Gore and the Washington Nationals on Friday night. All-Star Byron Buxton 's sacrifice fly in the fifth was all Matthews (2-2) needed for his first win after a six-week stint on the injured list with a shoulder strain. The 25-year-old right-hander departed with a shutout for the first time in 15 major league starts while allowing the fewest hits of his career, with six strikeouts and no walks. Matthews didn't let a ball out of the infield until a two-out double in the fourth inning by Luis García Jr. The Nationals have been held scoreless over 21 straight innings. Gore (4-10) matched his career high with six walks, allowing just one hit in five innings. He threw two wild pitches after walking Matt Wallner in the fifth, allowing him to move to third in position to score on Buxton's fly to left. The Twins, who entered the evening five games out of the last AL wild-card spot with five teams in front of them, won for the ninth time in their last 12 games at Target Field. They have five more games at home, where they're 29-20 this season, before the trade deadline. Daylen Lile hit a one-out double in the eighth off Griffin Jax, but the right-hander responded by fanning Riley Adams on three pitches. Jax walked Jacob Young but got CJ Abrams to fly out to finish the inning. The Nationals haven't scored since the sixth inning of a 6-1 win over Cincinnati on Tuesday. Mitchell Parker (6-10, 5.00 ERA) pitches on Saturday night for the Nationals. All-Star Joe Ryan (10-4, 2.63 ERA) takes the mound for the Twins.

Dragons forward cops brutal news as Cowboys player learns NRL fate over incident
The NRL has slapped Cowboys forward Karl Lawton with a two-game ban after a hip-drop tackle on Jaydn Su'A that may ended the Dragons forward's season. Lawton was hit with a grade two dangerous contact charge for the incident which forced Su'A from the field during the second half of the Cowboys' 38-32 win in Townsville on Friday night. The victory saw Todd Payten's side leapfrog the Dragons into 11th spot on the ladder and kept their slim finals hopes alive. But it has come at a cost for the Cowboys, with Lawton banned for the second time this season for a tackle that had eery similarities to one that injured Roosters star Siua Wong last month. League Immortal Andrew Johns called for a crackdown on 'third man in tackles' after Lawton's previous offence on Wong, and the Cowboys star found himself in hot water again during a similar incident on Friday night. Lawton was placed on report for the 51st minute tackle that saw him target Su'A's legs after the Dragons forward was already wrapped up by two North Queensland tacklers. The force of Lawton's body weight fell on Su'A's leg and he went down in immediate pain, before being helped from the field by Dragons medical staff. It later emerged that Su'A had suffered a suspected MCL injury to his knee, with the Dragons' medical staff suggesting he could be sidelined for four to six weeks. Given the Dragons only have six games left in the regular season, and sit six points outside the top-eight, there is the distinct possibility it is a season-ending injury for the former rep forward. And it's another major blow to the injury-ravaged Dragons' slim hopes of playing finals footy, despite coach Shane Flanagan insisting after the game that they have not given up on the possibility. Lawton's suspension is also a major setback to North Queensland's hopes of finishing the regular season inside the top-eight, having snapped a worrying run of form with victory on Friday night. Lawton miss the Cowboys' next two games against the Sharks and Eels with an early guilty plea, and faces a third game out if he fights the charge and loses. Jaydn Su'a left the field in Round 21 after suffering a knee injury. This is the second time Lawton has injured a player this way, after returning from suspension for a similar incident with Siua Wong. — The League Scene (@LeagueScenePod) July 26, 2025 Fair — Jake Carden (@JakeCarden13) July 26, 2025 He and the Dragons can't take a trick with injuries. Hughes injured his shoulder in the second half of Thursday night's win over the Roosters and had to be rushed to hospital as medical staff couldn't get the joint back into place. Subsequent scans revealed there was no damage to the bone and that Hughes would not require immediate surgery but he still has to undergo an MRI scan to test for further damage. However, the second-placed Storm are hopeful Hughes will be able to return after a six-week absence, putting the reigning Dally M Medal winner in line for a comeback in their final game of the regular season against Brisbane in round 27.
