'They Played Better Than Us': Proud Of His Team, Captain Gill Humbly Accepts Defeat
Last Updated: Captain Shubman Gill accepted the defeat and acknowledged the shortcomings of his team in the match. Unlimited drama, a Test match to remember for ages and a heartbreak for India. They fought bravely, but it was just not their day. And hats off to Ravindra Jadeja for not giving up at any stage. The chase of 194 was stiff, and the team knew it. Had there been a few 50-partnerships in the top order, India would have mastered the chase and taken the lead. But England's noisy bowling attack didn't let that happen. Ben Stokes & Co bowled out the tourists for 170 in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Lord's, winning the game by 22 runs, after toiling hard. Captain Shubman Gill accepted the defeat and acknowledged the shortcomings of his team in the match. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he was proud of his team but also admitted that the opposition had the edge. 'Extremely proud. Five days of hard-fought cricket and it comes down to the last session, last wicket and tremendously proud of the effort," Gill said. 'I was pretty confident that with plenty of batting left, but the way England kept attacking… We wanted to have maybe a couple of 50-run partnerships in our top-order, we weren't able to do that, and they played better than us," he added. India's Tail Wagged But Failed Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were the last two soldiers fighting at the frontier with Jadeja. Bumrah faced 50-plus deliveries but scored just 5. Siraj faced 30 balls but scored just 4. But the former's dismissal sparked outrage among fans. Bumrah tried going aerial but ended up getting caught by substitute Sam Cook. Gill said the last two wickets – Bumrah and Siraj – could have applied a little better. 'I think the last one hour, we could have applied ourselves a bit better, especially the last 2 wickets that fell. And even in this morning, the way they came out with the plans we were hoping for one 50-run partnership and if we had gotten that in the top order, things would have been easier for us," he said. 'Sometimes, the series scorecard doesn't really reflect how well you have played. I think we played some really good cricket, and I think it is going to be an even exciting series from hereon. You will get to know about it soon (when asked if Bumrah would play in the next Test)," he added. Now the two teams will travel to Manchester for the fourth Test at Old Trafford. The next game begins on July 23. view comments First Published: July 14, 2025, 22:37 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Not Ravindra Jadeja! 34-Year-Old Star Wins POTM Award In Lord's Test
Last Updated: Jadeja scored twin fifties (72 and 61*) for India in the Lord's Test but failed to help Shubman Gill-led side get the better of Ben Stokes & Co. The third Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England ended with a 22-run win for the hosts on Monday (July 14). In reply to the 193-run target set by the English team, India, despite an unbeaten 61-run knock from 181 balls by Ravindra Jadeja, could only manage to score 170 runs in 74.5 overs. Jadeja, who tops the ICC Test all-rounder's ranking, tried his best with the bat to keep India's chances alive of securing a famous win at the Home of Cricket, but he failed to seal the deal. Despite not being able to help India get the better of England in the Lord's Test, Jadeja earned a lot of praise for his knock from fans and experts of the game, but his twin half-centuries (72 and 61) were not enough to help him bag the Player of the Match award. Instead, the POTM award in the third India-England Test was won by England Test captain Ben Stokes. The 34-year-old all-rounder, who shared the dressing room with Jadeja during his time as a Chennai Super Kings player in IPL 2023, scored 44 and 33 runs in two innings of the Lord's Test and picked up 2 and 3 wickets. In the first innings, he added 88 runs for the sixth wicket with Joe Root (104) to help England post a total of 387 runs, and in the second innings, he dismissed Akash Deep (1), KL Rahul (40), and Jasprit Bumrah (5) to win the match for the home team. The POTM award on Monday also helped Stokes become the first player in the world to win four POTM awards in Test matches played at Lord's. Stokes has won 11 POTM awards for England in 114 Tests played so far. Only Joe Root (13) and Ian Botham (12) have won more POTM awards for the English team in the five-day format of the game than Stokes. Most POTM awards for England in Tests The overall record of winning the most POTM awards in Tests is in the name of former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. Kallis played a total of 166 Tests from 1995 to 2013 and won 23 POTM awards. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 08:19 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Watch: Root, Jamie Smith, Stokes Clean Bowled; Sundar Rattles England Middle-Order
Washington Sundar's double blow—dismissing Joe Root and Jamie Smith—put India in control on Day 4 at Lord's, after England's brief fightback post-lunch. India have been ultra-aggressive with their bowling on the fourth day of the ongoing Lord's Test against England. Zak Crawley's time-wasting antics in the third day's final over seemed to have triggered the visitors as they look to restrict Ben Stokes & Co as soon as possible in the second innings. After the pacers troubled the English top-order in the first session on day four, Washington Sundar picked two crucial wickets in quick succession in the second to put India in a commanding position. Captain Ben Stokes and Joe Root looked strong after the lunch break, adding 67 runs for the 6 th wicket. However, Sundar had plans. The off-spinner deceived Joe Root on 40 before taking down England's explosive wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith for just 8 runs. rd over but exposed his leg stump. The ball drifted away and sneaked past his swinging bat to shatter the timber. Joe Root was starting to settle, and we all know what happens when he does…But #WashingtonSundar had other ideas.A sharp, crucial breakthrough to stop the danger man. #ENGvIND 👉 3rd TEST, DAY 4 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar 👉 July 13, 2025 In the 47th over, Washington Sundar struck again, this time removing Jamie Smith, who had troubled India in the previous encounter. Bowling a flatter delivery, Sundar beat Smith's outside edge as the batter misread the line, and the ball crashed into the off-stump. Sundar's subtle drift continued to trouble the English batters, deepening their struggles in the second innings. Later in the final session, Sundar got the prized wicket of Ben Stokes, knocking him over with a length ball drifting in. The England captain looked to shift gears as he went down on his knee to slog sweep, but was beaten. The ball slid unde the bat and crashed into the stumps. Jasprit Bumrah kept things tight from the other end, unsettling Zak Crawley with awkward bounce. Nitish Reddy dismissed Crawley once again with a sharp catch at gully by Yashasvi Jaiswal. See the Sun Valley swag that billionaires and CEOs got this year
If the outfits at Sun Valley offer any indication, the answer ispretty similar to what the average Joe or finance guy would get. The annual Allen & Co. Sun Valley Conference is taking place this week, offering power brokers in tech and media fertile ground to hobnob, make deals, and play a few rounds of golf. Many are sporting looks befitting of the conference nicknamed "summer camp for billionaires." Some also appear to be going around with swag that attendees presumably receive. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, for example, were spotted wearing a conference hat. All of the conference swag appears to carry the SV25 logo, referring to Sun Valley 2025. Spanx founder Sara Blakely wore an SV25 jacket while walking around Sun Valley. It appears to be made by Cutter & Buck, which makes upscale athletic wear for golf and other sports. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel appeared on CNBC in a similar jacket. Jeff Boyd, former CEO of travel company Booking Holdings, was seen in a red puffer vest with the SV25 logo. Former Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang wore a blue conference polo, which appeared to be made by The North Face. Besides clothing, many attendees were also seen toting around a large branded binder, presumably with a notepad or a schedule of events and sessions inside. Of course, attendees at the invite-only retreat could be getting a lot more swag than we can tell. (Allen & Co. did not immediately respond to our request for comment.) If they don't want to hold on to all of it, it seems some guests have sold swag from years past. eBay, for example, has plenty of listings of puffer vests from prior Sun Valley conferences. So if you can't score an invite, you might still be able to get your hands on one.

The annual "summer camp for billionaires" in Sun Valley is in full swing. And just what freebies do these CEOs and other power players get from their so-called summer camp?
