Maximise benefits of `1,000 cr scheme, Centre urges states

Vijayawada: In a major step towards strengthen India's MSME sector and promote sustainable industrial practices, the ministry of power has launched the Assistance in Deploying Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries and Establishments (ADEETIE) scheme, backed by a Rs 1,000-crore Central budget. Launched nationally from Panipat, the scheme is being implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and is designed to fast-track the adoption of advanced energy-efficient technologies in MSMEs—an economic backbone employing millions and driving innovation across sectors. As part of the national rollout, BEE has appealed to all state governments to take immediate and focused action in scaling up implementation of the ADEETIE scheme. States have been urged to engage their State Designated Agencies (SDAs) to proactively educate stakeholders, identify eligible clusters, and provide end-to-end support to MSMEs for seamless technology transition. 'ADEETIE is a big boon to the MSME sector,' said Akash Tripathi, additional secretary, ministry of power and director general, BEE. 'We urge all states to capitalize on this opportunity from the very beginning to ensure the scheme's success and maximize benefits for their industries.' Of the Rs.1,000-crore budget, Rs 875 crore is earmarked as interest subvention to ease access to concessional finance for energy-efficient upgrades, while Rs 50 crore is allocated for implementation and capacity-building. The initiative is expected to leverage total investments of over Rs 9,000 crore, including significant lending by MSMEs themselves. The scheme provides comprehensive support—from Investment Grade Energy Audits (IGEA) and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to financing assistance and Monitoring and Verification (M&V)—ensuring measurable energy savings, reduced costs, and enhanced productivity. ADEETIE is operational across 60 industrial clusters and 14 energy-intensive sectors, including textiles, foundries, and food processing, among others. A phased, cluster-specific approach is being adopted to tailor interventions and ensure measurable outcomes. Apart from Kochi, Bhuvneshwar, West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh was selected under ADEETIE Scheme for fisheries. Apart from Ambala, Firozabad, Chirkunda, East and West Godavari of AP have been selected for glass and refractory Sector. The Union government sees this scheme as a pivotal tool not just for post-pandemic recovery, but for long-term sustainability, job creation, and achieving India's climate and net-zero goals. The ministry of power has specially acknowledged the proactive role of states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, while calling upon all states to rise to the occasion and make ADEETIE a turning point in India's clean industrial growth.

Vidarbha to have Rs10,000Cr Orange Economy in a Decade: Gadkari

Nagpur: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday projected that Vidarbha is on track to develop a Rs10,000-crore orange-driven economy within the next decade. Speaking at the inauguration of the secretariat building and incubation centre of the Indian Council of Technical Research and Development (ICTRD), Gadkari stressed on the transformative role of technology, startups and innovation in boosting the region's agriculture and rural economy. Highlighting the successful integration of Spanish technology in orange cultivation, the minister said, "Farmers in Vidarbha have already begun to witness a significant rise in yield. In Valencia, farmers produce 25 to 30 tonnes of oranges per acre, while here we barely manage 4 tonnes. By adopting their model, we can significantly increase productivity and build an orange-centric economy." Gadkari further emphasized the importance of high-tech agriculture, rural innovation and AI-led farming solutions. "I first test every machine on my farm before recommending it to others. We've used agro innovations to increase onion yield in my farm in Dhapewada," he said. Pointing to the success of pilot projects like the Baramati AI model in agriculture, he called for similar application in Vidarbha's orange cultivation. He revealed that a farmer business school from Valencia is also collaborating on knowledge transfer to the region. Referring to Vidarbha's mineral richness and untapped resources, Gadkari said, "Seventy-five percent of Maharashtra's minerals are in Vidarbha, yet we still depend on imports. Out-of-the-box thinking and community-centric research are crucial." He urged youth to shed dependence on the government and build startups that convert knowledge into wealth. "India now has over 1.8 lakh startups. We must become job creators, not job seekers. Startups are the biggest weapon of development," he said, citing successful innovations like the Buldhana pattern of lake construction, and rice straw-based CNG production. Gadkari also mentioned upcoming initiatives like a lithium-ion battery plant and the proposed Global University of Logistics and Skill Development on 100 acres in Butibori. "Skill training must be Vidarbha-centric. If NMC had thought of building dedicated marketplaces five years ago, vendors wouldn't be on the streets today," he remarked, also taking a dig at the civic body for failing in basic tasks like garbage collection. "Futuristic technologies must be practically implemented. AI, info-tech and biotech can all contribute to a better tomorrow — but only if backed by local talent and grassroots effort," the minister added. Gadkari also said that he would soon be starting a state-of-the-art International School in Nagpur. The school has been conceptualized by his daughter-in-law after a thorough study of some of the finest school of the country. Former MPs Ajay Sancheti and Vikas Mahatme, former mayor Nanda Jichkar and member secretary of ICTRD Ketan Mohitkar were also present at the occasion.

Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara says no funds with government, later retracts

BAGALKOT: Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has candidly admitted that the State Government is facing financial constraints. 'We don't have money. Even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah doesn't have money now. Everything has been given away to you (people) in the form of rice, pulses, oil… even liquor,' he said, referring humorously while pointing at Excise Minister RB Timmapur. Speaking after inaugurating a new building of the Fire and Emergency Services in Badami on Monday, the minister asked the officials and the leaders to prepare a Rs1,000-crore project for the comprehensive development of Badami. 'The State Government has no funds, the project should be submitted to the Centre for the development of Badami,' he said. Later, Dr Parameshwara denied the statement stating he never said that the government has no funds. He said that the government has several sources to mobilise funds for the development and claimed that the government has funds, but sometimes, releasing of funds takes time. Meanwhile, the State BJP has hit out at Dr Parameshwara remarks. Taking to social media, the party accused the Congress government of bankrupting Karnataka through 'unscientific' and 'vote-bank driven' guarantees. 'The very Home Minister has now confessed that the government has no funds to provide grants to MLAs. This is a direct consequence of their irresponsible and unscientific guarantees aimed solely at appeasing minority vote banks,' BJP said, adding that the Congress, which came to power on false promises, has pushed the state into a financial crisis. 'Their populist schemes have drained the state coffers, leaving nothing for crucial development work or MLA grants,' BJP said. On the growing dissent in the Congress, the BJP pointed to Congress MLA BR Patil's open allegation of corruption in the housing scheme. Another MLA Raju Kage, too, has expressed his frustration over the lack of grants and even threatened to resign, the party recalled. 'MLA Gopalakrishna has lamented the government's inability to provide funds even to construct a basic drain. Now, with the Home Minister admitting there are no funds for development, it is clear that the Congress government is pushing Karnataka into a darkness,' the BJP said.

Around 940 hectares of land to be acquired for Manmad-Indore tracks in Nashik and Dhule districts

Nashik: Around 940 hectares of land have to be acquired for the section of Manmad-Indore railway track that will originate from Manmad Junction in Nashik district and pass through Dhule before crossing into the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh. The process for the acquisition of land for the Rs18,000-crore project, sanctioned in 2016 during the tenure of then railway minister Suresh Prabhu by the cabinet under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is in various stages. These stages include assessing the area required, finalising the land needed, and publishing the preliminary and final notifications. In Nashik district, the track will start from Manmad Junction (Nandgaon taluka) and pass through Chandwad and Malegaon talukas into Dhule district. "In all, 360 hectares of land are required. The work of joint measurement of the land in the 21 villages of the district will begin in the latter half of June," said a senior official. The route will pass through Dhule, Shindkeda, and then into Shirpur talukas before entering Madhya Pradesh, requiring more than 580 hectare of land will be required for the tracks, though assessment is yet to be carried out in some areas. "We have acquired 240 hectares of land from Borvihir to Nardana already, and the railways is now taking possession of the same. We have initiated the process of land acquisition for another 120 hectares of land – in all, about 10 villages," said sub divisional officer of Dhule, Rohan Kuwar. The track will pass through nine villages of Shindkheda taluka and 18 villages of Shirpur taluka, where collectively more than 220 hectares of land is likely to be required. "Here, the work of finalising the routes is being carried out, and it is likely to be completed in about two months. Once this is finalised, the exact quantum of land required will be decided," a senior official from the district administration said.

PMRDA to spend Rs 3,000cr to build road network linking major highways in Pune city

Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced a Rs3,000-crore road network project to link key highways and decongest Pune's major traffic corridors. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Officials said the network would offer direct connectivity between Satara Road, Ahilyanagar Road, Solapur highway, Nashik highway, and the Pune-Mumbai highway, while improving road access to peripheral villages and emerging townships. PMRDA commissioner Yogesh Mhase told TOI that the project aims to have proper roads connecting to all highways in the district. "We have zeroed in on all the roads that connect to the highways. We will undertake the repairs phase-wise," he said. Officials of the development authority said construction or repair works are undertaken at various spots along different segments. "Link roads connecting major highways are being prioritised. We have approved work in 20 to 25 villages," a senior PMRDA official said. Most of the new roads will be constructed using cement concrete to improve durability, the official said. "Each road will be equipped with stormwater drainage lines and underground utility ducts to prevent future digging and ensure smooth movement during the monsoon," the official said. "Widths have been finalised keeping future traffic volumes in mind. Utility shifting and technical surveys are being conducted simultaneously to avoid delays," the official added. The first phase of the project includes strengthening existing roads that are already part of PMRDA's regional development plan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The work is being executed through multiple packages, with land acquisition being fast-tracked. Officials said the internal grid of roads would function as alternate routes for traffic that crowd the city's arterial roads and highways. Once completed, the network is expected to cut travel time for daily commuters and heavy vehicles entering and exiting Pune. "The aim is to reduce pressure on primary corridors by creating seamless links between them. This will also help people living in peripheral areas travel more efficiently," the official said. Inner ring road alignment to be examined by experts PMRDA is reviewing a request by MP Supriya Sule to shift the alignment of the proposed inner ring road by around 200m in certain locations to avoid affecting residential areas in villages. "A final decision will be taken after technical experts examine the proposal," a senior PMRDA official said. Sule raised the issue during a meeting with the PMRDA commissioner earlier this month stating that it would affect the villagers in the area. She said while she was not against the project, a slight re-alignment would help save the houses of the villagers in Haveli taluka. The Rs14,200-crore inner ring road project spans 83.1km and is designed to provide circular connectivity between major hubs, including Lohegaon airport, Hinjewadi IT Park and Chakan MIDC. The authority already submitted a request to the Pune district collector's office last week to speed up land acquisition for the inner ring road. The ring road is expected to divert heavy traffic away from the city's core areas and support future infrastructure needs.
