How to have the best Sunday in L.A., according to Judy Greer
Chances are, you've seen (or heard) Judy Greer in one of her many roles over her prolific, multidecade career. She's played Maggie Lang in 'Ant-Man,' voiced Cheryl Tunt in the long-running animated adult sitcom 'Archer,' and appeared as Jennifer Garner's bestie in the 2004 rom-com classic '13 Going on 30' (the two are friends IRL too). She's also joining the cast for the second season of Garner's Apple TV series 'The Last Thing He Told Me.' Streaming now is Apple TV+'s heartfelt new golf comedy, 'Stick,' in which Greer plays Amber-Linn — not a best friend, but the ex-wife of former professional golfer Pryce Cahill, played by Owen Wilson. You don't have to be a fan of the sport to watch. 'Honestly, I'm not a golfer and I love it,' she says. As for her perfect Sunday, she'll stick close to Larchmont, where she's lived for 20 years. 'I travel a lot for work, so I don't always like to go far and wide on my weekends,' she says. 'My dream Sunday is to not actually exit the threshold, but today I'm going to.' And she'll get a lot done, from reading a'plenty to hitting up the farmers market and Dodger Stadium, taking in a movie and getting quality time with her husband, Dean Johnsen, her stepkids and her terrier mix, Mary Richards. 6:30 a.m.: A pot of coffee and reading in bed I get up at 6, 6:30, and not on purpose. My husband likes to sleep, so if the sun's out, I can read in bed. If not, sometimes I'll come downstairs and read and have coffee, and then when he wakes up, I'll go back up and we'll have coffee in bed together. I love to start my day with a pot of coffee in bed. The coffee maker, it's like a basic bitch, a Cuisinart coffee maker. We get this brand called Punk Bunny. That's our favorite kind of coffee. We did recently try the dark roast, but we both have decided it's too much for us. We're going back down to the medium dark roast. And I just put soy milk in it. Whenever I'm traveling for work and staying in these Airbnbs and apartments and stuff, there'll be a cappuccino maker, and we'll always be like, should we get one of those? and then we never end up doing it. If I go out to a cafe, like Lamill or Go Get 'Em Tiger on Larchmont, I'll get a cappuccino, but I don't need to be making cappuccinos in my house. 9 a.m.: Two loops around the Silver Lake Reservoir Then I would drive to the Silver Lake Reservoir, and I would walk around it twice, which is probably just under five miles. I would take my sweet dog — she's a really good walker, even though she's tiny. After my walk, I would make a parfait for myself at home. I also like to go and get the protein pancakes at Cafe Gratitude. That would be a really big treat. I don't love getting breakfast on Larchmont on Sundays because it's so crowded. 11 a.m.: Hit up the Larchmont Village Farmers Market My husband and I, we're not cooks or chefs or anything. We have a couple go-tos at the farmers market: There's the soup guy who has the frozen soup, and I like to get flowers and usually berries. We don't really eat meat, but once in a while we'll treat ourselves to salmon. My husband will make salmon on the grill, so he'll get fish from the fishmonger and sometimes those Parmesan crisps he really likes (and then I eat them, even though he is like, they're for me). If we're thinking of making a big salad or something, we'll get salad stuff. But again, we're not those people, even though we really want to be those people. Noon: Stop at Chevalier's Books Then I would walk down to Chevalier's, our little local bookstore, and say hi to everyone who works there and wander around a bit. I have so many books and it's a problem, but then there's usually something there that just came out that I'm really excited about, and so I'll get it. I've lately been buying hardcovers because it's kind of fun to have a first edition of something that could potentially win the Nobel Prize or Pulitzer. My husband was like, 'The thing about you is you buy a lot of books, but you do read them.' So I'm not just randomly buying books. I'm reading a book by Barbara Kingsolver right now called 'Unsheltered.' That one I think I probably swiped out of a little library on a dog walk because it's definitely not brand new. I just finished 'Martyr!' [by Kaveh Akbar] and I was so blown away that I almost didn't even want to read another book for a while. 1 p.m.: A quick dip in the pool, some shopping and Dodger Stadium Now, we're coming home, and we're going to rinse off in the pool, which is gross, but I don't care. And then we're decking ourselves out in our Dodger gear and we're going to go to Dodger Stadium and we're going to watch the Dodgers win at Dodger Stadium. We would meet my stepkids there and the four of us would watch the Dodger game and they would have some beers and probably some nachos. I'd sit with my peanuts and Diet Coke, and we would watch the Dodgers. I love Sundays at the ballpark because it's fun, it's chill, it's tons of families. Dodger Stadium has really become one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. It's just a really beautiful place. Sometimes I'll walk around the whole loop of the stadium, just get my steps in, wander around and see everybody, and see all the food. 4 p.m.: An afternoon movie and the best popcorn Mann Chinese [TCL Chinese Theatres] is where my husband and I mostly go to the movies because it's weirdly closer to our house, but kind of a pain in the ass because it's really touristy. But now we know where to park and how to get in and out really quickly. So we've got it down. I'm probably going to get myself into a lot of trouble now, but we pop our own popcorn. This is husband territory; he makes it on the stovetop with kernels and coconut oil. We're an Orville Redenbacher family. I'm not ashamed to say we have tried all the fancy popcorn kernels, but honestly, I feel like Orville gives you the best pop, so that's what we buy. Oh, I'll show you something dorky. Hold on. [Greer disappears and returns with a large Ziploc bag.] I usually sneak it in my tote bag. I love having popcorn in the movies, but the movie popcorn is usually not super good for us. Sometimes I will also sneak in some dried mangoes, and usually I'll still buy a Diet Coke. I feel guilty not buying anything. I love that big theater. It's just so beautiful. There are such great movie theaters in L.A., such old theaters, and that one is so historical. I've been to a bunch of movie premieres there too. But probably I prefer it when I'm just like a citizen watching a movie. 7 p.m.: Pasta for dinner I would finish my day by going to dinner at Osteria Mamma and getting — I don't want to get in trouble for this, because they took it off the menu — their pasta pomodoro. Sometimes I'm just like, 'Can you just make me the pasta pomodoro?' It's just so good. My husband gets the cacio pepe, which they make tableside in this huge cheese wheel, which is bananas, and I like their tricolore salad. We usually split that. Yeah, we'd have a nice little cozy dinner and not have to cook on a Sunday night. We didn't really buy much at the farmers market anyway, let's be honest. 8 p.m.: Watch a little TV or read in bed Sometimes we're watching a show and we'll watch an episode, or we'll just go to bed and read in bed. I like to ascend around 9. This week, I've been really tired, so I've been going up at 8:30. I'm like, the sun is still out. But by the time I'm done with all my ablutions and the flossing and all the things, it's definitely almost dark. I get cuddly with my dog and read for a little while, and then, yeah, lights out by 10, but that's even sometimes a little bit late. On a Sunday, I want to get a really good night's sleep before Monday morning.

Jennifer Garner marked Father's Day with a touching tribute to her ex-husband Ben Affleck , sharing a never-before-seen personal photo of the actor with one of their children. In the sweet throwback image posted on her Instagram stories, Affleck is seen resting on a couch while cradling one of his children who was sleeping on his chest. Though Garner didn't reveal which of their three children—Violet, Fin, or Samuel—was pictured, the post won the hearts of fans. 'Happy Father's Day to 3 people's favorite landing spot,' Garner, captioned the photo. The 13 Going on 30 actress also honoured her own father, the late William John Garner, who passed away last year at the age of 85. In a separate post, she shared a video from their time strolling on the countryside. 'Being fathered by someone who loves being a dad is a gift,' she wrote. 'My sisters and I know this, and (lucky for us) all of our kids do, too. Happy Father's Day to the dads, no matter where you are. To the uncles and grandfathers and father figures, too—we love you.' Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's former Brentwood home has sold for $10.8 million after one on the market. Garner purchased the home in 2004, before her marriage to Affleck who moved in in 2005. She sold it in 2009. The mansion has also been home to Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber and was used in the filming of 'Home Again' starring Reese WitherspoonBen Affleck and Jennifer Garner's former L.A. home came back on the market last week — and has already found a new buyer. The Brentwood mansion sold for 10.8 million, significantly more than its asking price of $9.5 million, after receiving multiple offers from the day it was listed. The 13 Going on 30 actress, 53, purchased the home in 2004 for $5.5 million, before being joined by Affleck, 52, in 2005 following their marriage, according to Mansion Global. In 2009, Garner put the house on the market. Affleck and Garner, who share children Violet Anne, 19, Seraphina Rose, 16, and Samuel, 13, announced their split in June 2015 after ten years of marriage. The 4,151-square-foot, four bedroom, five bathroom Montecito-inspired home is arranged around a charming courtyard. It was built in 1929 and sits on about three-quarters of an acre in the celeb-favorite enclave. Affleck and Garner weren't the first stars to call this place home. Cindy Crawford once lived in the property with her husband Rande Gerber. The house also has an screen credit of its own: It was used in the 2017 romcom Home Again starring Reese Witherspoon. The main spaces feature original tile floors and steal casement-style windows. The living room includes a wood-burning fireplace and a high, beamed ceiling. It opens up onto a lush backyard complete with a pool and outdoor entertaining space with another fireplace. Affleck and Garner first met on the set of Pearl Harbor, but their relationship did not begin until four years later. They starred in 2003's Daredevil together and became close friends. By the summer of 2004, their friendship had turned romantic and they wed in June 2005. They decided to go their separate ways in 2015, finalizing their divorce in 2018. In the years since, the exes and co-parents have continued to speak highly of one another. "She's just a fabulous person," Affleck said of Garner in 2016. "She's a great mother. She's a real talent … She's somebody that I admire and respect and remain excellent friends with." Affleck went on to marry Jennifer Lopez in 2022, but the singer filed for divorce in 2024. Garner is currently in a relationship with CEO boyfriend John Miller since 2018. Garner opened the doors to her current Los Angeles home to Architectural Digest in 2024. 'I'm such a private person about my home and here I've just taken you through the entire house. And really, it's for a couple of reasons,' she explains in the video tour. 'I've never built anything all by myself before and I'm so proud of it. I am filled with gratitude every time I walk into my house. The $20.5 million, five-bedroom Los Angeles estate has a 'sense of privacy and seclusion' and is 'not trendy,' a source told PEOPLE shortly after he made the purchase. 'I watched 13 Going On 30 after turning 30 and here's what they don't tell you'
Dirty Thirty. Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving. The Big Three O. No matter which out-of-touch, millennial pop culture term you use, the fact remains, you're in the third decade of your life. Statistically, you probably have another four to go. Yay. The shift from being a twenty-something that loves partying till 4am to becoming the girl who wants to spend her entire weekend in bed watching a family drama called Parenthood was swift. All of a sudden my usual vices weren't as appealing as they used to be. More importantly, I secretly loved that. The weekend after I turned thirty, while indulging in said Netflix and chill; the boring, in-the-same-pyjamas-since-the-last-three-days kind, not the steamy kind - I happened to serendipitously chance upon 13 Going On 30. As a staunch believer of fate, chosen destiny, and all that other witchy voodoo – I knew I had to spend my next hour and 38 minutes watching Jennifer Garner go full ham on my TV screen. And it was an hour and 38 minutes I did not regret. So now, like any self-respecting journalist at a major news publication, I'm going to present you with 13 thoughts I had while watching 13 Going on 30 after turning 30 (side quest : say it as a tongue-twister 13 times). 1. Whether you're 13 or 30 - friendships will always be relevant Like Jenna Rink retrospectively realised - choosing who to surround yourself with when you're a teen is supremely important, and it becomes even more glaringly obvious why when you're 30. My closest friends to date have all been in my life since I was a reckless teenager, and some from even before then. These are the bonds that have survived the test of time, that have embraced me during gut-wrenching, crush-my-soul heartbreaks and been on the phone to me while I dealt with life-shattering disappointments. These are the people that at 30 - when all of a sudden, you become painfully aware of life - have held my hand from one panic attack inducing thought to the next. These are my people. 2. The movie has a banging soundtrack - and so should your life 3. Love is always going to be the thing that's worth fighting for Because I didn't suddenly wake up in the body of my 30-year-old self with a built-in, famous, athlete boyfriend. No. I had to get through each painstaking, obstacle-wrought year with my long-distance boyfriend for eight years while he - worked at sea with only 50MB of data in a day, studied on another continent, existed in another time zone, traversed across a different hemisphere. Now while we didn't have to resort to turning back time via magic fairy dust, we certainly had our fair share of ludicrous ups and downs. But like Jenna, we didn't give up and fought for our love. The result? The law is now officially involved in our relationship. 4. A good ol' slumber party with your girls (or boys) can fix anything, so make time for them! But more generally - make time for your friends. Your older self will thank you. 5. You can't turn back time, no matter how hard you try So, as much of a Hallmark-card cliché this may be - live in the now. Do that thing you're putting off, follow that passion you left behind when you were 12, travel solo to that remote island, make that career-pivot you're too scared to make, and tell that human you love them. 6. Sometimes, you just have to hide in a closet (or room, or bathroom) and have a good cry It doesn't make you weak. It won't break your resolve. And most importantly - your skin will glow for a hot sec when you're done. 7. Thank god I left bitchy, back-stabbing, two-faced friends like Tom-Tom behind in high school 8. 'We made choices', said Matty. And those three words hit me like a ton of bricks Because it's true - our whole lives are a sum total of our choices; good, bad, ugly. It helps absolutely no one if you sit and regret the choices you made. But you know who it helps if those choices are owned, studied, and learnt from? You. 9. Sexy, brooding, Mark Ruffalo-artistic-types will always be my weak spot I don't make the rules. 10. 'You don't always get the dream house, but you get awfully close' Having recently moved to London, sitting in my sweet little apartment overlooking the river with the love of my life as we blast retro music and cook a Full English on a Saturday, I'd say Matty Flamhaff was exactly right. 11. Jumping off a swing at the age of 30 is definitely going to hurt Must try it anyway. Something about making this my fearless decade. This is obviously a metaphor. 12. When Jenna Rink said, 'I think all of us want to feel something that we've forgotten or turned our backs on, because maybe we didn't realise how much we were leaving behind', she was talking about her chance at love with Matty. But for me, watching this scene at the ripe (see how I avoided the old) age of 30 - all it reminded me of was home The ever-supportive family I left behind in pursuit of my dreams almost a decade ago when I moved out. The mundane weekdays I've missed. The celebrations and milestones I've been absent from. All the ways in which I haven't been able to be there for them, by virtue of not being around physically. All of the familial responsibilities that have fallen on the innocent shoulders on my little brother. There's no point to this rumination - this is life. This is adulthood. And sometimes, it is what it is. 13. Occasionally, all you need to do is break out into rehearsed choreography on a certified banger. *Cue Single Ladies* There's a quiet sense of triumph in watching 13 Going on 30, after turning 30. For me - it lay in the realisation that my life was nowhere near as chaotic as grown-up Jenna Rink's. It lay in the fact that I have a solid set of friends that genuinely have my back - who celebrate my victories as theirs and my failures as "it just hasn't happened for you yet ". It lay in the fact that I was not stupid enough to let my Matty go when I first found him nine years ago. And it most definitely lay in the reality that I did make it home last Christmas.
