Teens posed as minors on dating apps to lure and extort 'paedophiles'
Two teenage boys pretended to be minors on dating sites to lure "paedophiles" and extort money from them. In one such incident, a 24-year-old man was duped into thinking that he was meeting a 15-year-old boy for sex. When he arrived at the meeting place, one of the teenagers recorded him on a mobile phone and the pair deleted the footage only after receiving $2,000 from the man. Shaaqir Noor'rifqy Mohammed Noorrizat,19, who was the mastermind of the plan, pleaded guilty to one count of extortion on July 4. Two other similar charges will be taken into consideration when he is sentenced in August. His accomplice cannot be named as he was just 17 years old at the time of the offences, and those below 18 are protected under the Children and Young Persons Act. His case is pending. Assistant Public Prosecutor Chye Jer Yuan said: "(Shaaqir) had come up with the idea to impersonate underage females or males on online dating applications to lure paedophiles and extort money from them." The teenagers posed as underage individuals who were seeking sexual encounters and went on platforms such as Grindr, commonly used by gay men, and hook-up groups on Telegram. The 24-year-old man was duped on Grindr. When he went to the void deck of a Bukit Batok block of flats at around noon on Nov 6, 2024, Shaaqir and his accomplice confronted him. They started to question the man on why he wanted to meet a minor for sex and threatened to alert the police. APP Chye said: "They told him that they would keep this a secret if he paid them, before stopping the recording. The (man) agreed and both accused followed him to withdraw a sum of $2,000." Shaaqir and his accomplice then deleted the recording in front of the man after receiving the money. Both teenagers were arrested at around 11pm that day. The prosecutor did not disclose in court documents how the pair's offences were discovered. On July 4, the court called for reports to assess Shaaqir's suitability for both probation and reformative training. Young offenders ordered to undergo reformative training are detained in a centre to undergo a strict regimen that can include foot drills and counselling.

(Representative photo) Two days after a body, with a cloth tied around the neck and bearing multiple stab wounds, surfaced at the Haiderpur water treatment plant, police on Thursday identified the victim as a 14-year-old boy, who was abducted and murdered in a gang rivalry at Samaypur Badli on the intervening night of June 29 and 30. Two men, identified as Krishna Mehto,19, and Ashmit Singh,18, were arrested, and four minor boys were apprehended in connection with the murder, police said. 'Mehto's interrogation revealed that he was humiliated and brutally beaten up by members of the notorious Badhawar gang, involved in robbery and bootlegging, on Diwali last year. Mehto suspected the 14-year-old boy and his friends of being informers and conniving with the Badhawars in the assault. He had been planning for a long time to take revenge,' said deputy commissioner of police (outer-north) Hareshwar V Swami. HT previously reported how bodies dumped in the Munak canal, which starts from Haryana, end up at the Haiderpur plant due to a lack of any mechanism, such as nets or boundary walls. On June 29 night, Mehto, Singh and six others met at Jeevan Park in Samaypur Badli and decided to kill the boy. They spotted the boy near Veer Chowk Bazar, assaulted him and abducted him in front of his friends on a motorcycle. 'They took him near the Munak canal in Samaypur Badli area, where they tied a scarf around his mouth so that he could not scream, stripped him, threw his clothes in the canal, assaulted him and took turns to stab him multiple times. They threw his body in the canal and fled,' the DCP said. Two other suspects were traced in Haridwar, police said.

Vijay Sethupathi, Nithya Menen's Thalaivan Thalaivii Gets Release Date

Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen's upcoming film titled Thalaivan Thalaivii is directed by Pandiraj, known for Etharkkum Thunindhavan. It promises a delicious mix of drama, humour, and some seriously relatable relationship chaos. The makers recently dropped a quirky teaser that takes us inside the colourful world of Hotel Raghavarthini — the main setting of the story. The movie is all set to hit theatres on July 25. Sethupathi plays Aakasaveeran and Nithya Menen is Perarasi, and together they seem to be running a lively little tiffin centre. The teaser gives off feel-good vibes at first, showing off the eatery's charm, but quickly takes a wild turn as action kicks in. It ends with Sethupathi cheekily inviting everyone to the tiffin centre before pulling out a weapon and revealing the release date. The title teaser of Thalaivan Thalaivii had dropped earlier and it opened with mouthwatering visuals of food being prepped.
