Body found at Delhi water plant was of gang rivalry victim, six held: Police
Two days after a body, with a cloth tied around the neck and bearing multiple stab wounds, surfaced at the Haiderpur water treatment plant, police on Thursday identified the victim as a 14-year-old boy, who was abducted and murdered in a gang rivalry at Samaypur Badli on the intervening night of June 29 and 30.
Two men, identified as Krishna Mehto,19, and Ashmit Singh,18, were arrested, and four minor boys were apprehended in connection with the murder, police said.
'Mehto's interrogation revealed that he was humiliated and brutally beaten up by members of the notorious Badhawar gang, involved in robbery and bootlegging, on Diwali last year. Mehto suspected the 14-year-old boy and his friends of being informers and conniving with the Badhawars in the assault. He had been planning for a long time to take revenge,' said deputy commissioner of police (outer-north) Hareshwar V Swami.
HT previously reported how bodies dumped in the Munak canal, which starts from Haryana, end up at the Haiderpur plant due to a lack of any mechanism, such as nets or boundary walls.
On June 29 night, Mehto, Singh and six others met at Jeevan Park in Samaypur Badli and decided to kill the boy. They spotted the boy near Veer Chowk Bazar, assaulted him and abducted him in front of his friends on a motorcycle.
'They took him near the Munak canal in Samaypur Badli area, where they tied a scarf around his mouth so that he could not scream, stripped him, threw his clothes in the canal, assaulted him and took turns to stab him multiple times. They threw his body in the canal and fled,' the DCP said.
Two other suspects were traced in Haridwar, police said.

The Gujarat High Court has initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against a man for attending a virtual hearing while sitting on a toilet seat. The incident occurred on June 20 when Justice Nirzar S. Desai was hearing a case. A video of it soon went viral on social media platforms. A division bench of Justices A.S. Supehia and R.T. Vachhani passed an order on June 30 directing the HC registry to "register a suo motu contempt proceedings against the person who is seen in the video". In its 'oral order' which was uploaded on July 3, the HC bench directed the Registrar of Information and Technology to inform the Court "about the mechanism to stop contumacious litigants in participating in the live streaming proceedings, since it is also noticed by us that such disorderly and uncontrolled behaviour has become frequent". "Registry shall issue the notice to the contemnor as to why he should not be prosecuted and punished for committing Contempt of Court as defined under Section 2(c) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971. A suo motu proceeding shall be listed after a period of two weeks," the bench said in the order. "The infamous video tarnishing the image of this court is widely circulated in social media and it requires to be immediately banned and deleted," the bench further said. Answering nature's call during proceedings In the video, a man wearing a yellow t-shirt can be seen logging in using a mobile phone, with the name on the screen identifying him as 'Samad Battery'. Shockingly, the video shows he had been sitting on a toilet seat and answering nature's call while he attended the proceedings through video link. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gujarat High Court has allowed both lawyers and litigants to join through the virtual mode, and the proceedings of each hearing are broadcast live via the court's YouTube channel. The one minute-long video showed that the man, later identified as Abdul Samad, had kept the mobile phone on the floor of the toilet with the camera facing him. After finishing his business in the toilet, he picked up the phone and left. Justice Desai apparently did not notice his actions or the surroundings. The same person, wearing wireless earphones, can be seen logging in again later in the livestream, sitting in a room and waiting for his turn. After nearly 10 minutes, Justice Desai asked his name and he identified himself as Abdul Samad, a resident of Kim village of Surat and the complainant in a case of assault. His lawyers informed the court that Mr. Samad had recently lodged a complaint of assault against two persons in Kim, but both the parties have arrived at a compromise. Hearing the petition filed by the two accused seeking to quash the First Information Report, Justice Desai asked Samad if he consented to it. He told the court he had no objection, following which Justice Desai granted the accused's plea.

Amritsar police unearth 2 international narco-arms, hawala modules, 9 held
In a major crackdown on smuggling networks, the Amritsar commissionerate police have busted two international narco-arms and narco-hawala syndicates, leading to the recovery of 1.15 kg heroin, five sophisticated pistols and ₹9.7 lakh drug money, said Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Friday. (Sameer Sehgal/HT) Sharing details of the first operation during a press conference, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said in an intelligence-led operation, police teams arrested three individuals involved in a narco-arms module, and recovered five sophisticated pistols, including three 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore Chinese pistols, along with cartridges from their possession. He said preliminary investigations revealed that two of the arrested accused, Jaspreet Singh Chauhan, alias Kalu, 26, of Sokha Bhaini village in Barnala, and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, 25, of Bholoke village in Gurdaspur, had recently returned from Malaysia, and were in touch with their handlers in Malaysia and Pakistan. They came to Amritsar along with their friend Tejbir Singh, 21, of Basti Lal Singh village in Tarn Taran, and on instructions of their handlers, picked up weapon and drugs consignment, he said. These were meant to be further delivered to criminal elements to carry out crimes. The recoveries resulted in an FIR under Section 21-C of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Sadar police station in Amritsar. In another operation, the CP said police uncovered a narco-hawala network operated by Karnataka natives Abdul Rehman, 45, and Pardeep Pintu, 44, who routed drug proceeds to Dubai through illegal channels. Apart from the duo, four more accused were arrested, identified as Danish, alias Gaggu, 19, of Dashmesh Nagar in Amritsar; Saloni, 19, of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar; Jobanpreet Singh, alias Joban, 28, of Meharbanpura village in Amritsar; and Kulwinder Singh, 28, of Kakka village in Ludhiana. A total of ₹9.7 lakh drug money and 150 gm heroin were recovered from their possession. The accused were booked under Sections 21-B, 29 and 27-A of the NDPS Act at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar. Further investigation was on, and more arrests and recoveries were likely in coming days, Bhullar added.
