When is the Home Run Derby? 2025 participants, odds and how to watch

It's a wrap for the first half of the 2025 MLB season so that means the Midsummer Classic is upon us. With that, the fan-favorite MLB Home Run Derby is finally here, too. But which MLB sluggers will participate this year? Find out below. Advertisement When is the 2025 Home Run Derby? The 2025 T-Mobile Home Run Derby will take place on Monday, July 14. Date: Monday, July 14 Time: 8 p.m. ET TV: ESPN Stream: ESPN+, Fubo (which offers a free trial) Location: Truist Park (Atlanta, Georgia) Home Run Derby bracket Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves James Wood, Washington Nationals Cal Raleigh, Seattle Mariners Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates Jazz Chisholm, New York Yankees Brent Rooker, Oakland Athletics Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins Phillies 2025 MLB Draft picks: See who Philadelphia has drafted so far MLB All-Stars aren't all superstars: Here are 5 forgotten Phillies All-Stars since 2000 Home Run Derby rules Here are the rules, according to First round There are three rounds to the eight-player derby: first round, semifinals, and finals. In the first round, the eight players each have 3 minutes or 40 pitches (whichever comes first) to hit as many homers as possible. There is also a bonus period for each player that lasts until they record three outs within the period. Any swing that doesn't result in a home run is an out. If a player hits a home run of at least 425 feet within the bonus period, the period is extended until the player records a fourth out. Advertisement The players with the top four homer totals advance to the semis. In the event of a first-round tie, the player who hit the longest home run during the round advances. Semi-finals In the semifinals, the format shifts to "knockout style," with No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3. The seeds are determined solely by the number of home runs each player hit in the first round. Players will have 2 minutes or 27 pitches in the semifinals and finals and home run totals from the first round don't carry over. Ties in the semifinals or finals are broken by a 60-second "swing-off" with no additional time added. If a tie remains after the "swing-off," batters then engage in successive three-swing 'swing-offs' until there is a winner. Advertisement Finals The winners of the two semifinal matchups advance to the finals, where the limits are reduced to 2 minutes and 27 pitches. The player with the most home runs after that period is crowned Home Run Derby champion. During the competition, each batter is entitled to one 45-second timeout in each of the three regulation periods, but timeouts can't be called during the bonus periods or tiebreakers. Derby home run leaders Seattle Mariners designated hitter Cal Raleigh hits a grand slam home run against the Detroit Tigers in the ninth inning at Comerica Park in Detroit on July 11, 2025. Cal Raleigh: 38 James Wood: 24 Junior Caminero: 23 Byron Buxton: 21 Brent Rooker: 20 Matt Olson: 17 Jazz Chisholm: 17 Oneil Cruz: 16' Home Run Derby odds The latest odds as of Monday morning at BetMGM: Cal Raleigh : (+275) - $10 to win $27.50 Oneil Cruz : (+350) - $10 to win $35 James Wood : (+400) - $10 to win $40 Matt Olson : (+800) - $10 to win $80 Brent Rooker : (+850) - $10 to win $85 Byron Buxton : (+900) - $10 to win $90 Junior Caminero : (+1000) - $10 to win $100 Jazz Chisholm Jr.: (+1400) - $10 to win $140 MLB All-Star Game: See which Phillies have made the most National League All-Star Game selections No Phillies in the home run derby? Unlike last year, there won't be any Philadelphia Phillies participating in this year's derby. Advertisement Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber ended the first half with 30 home runs, which is third in the National League and fifth in all of baseball. However, the Phils slugger declined an invite and instead suggested he might consider participating next season when the All-Star game comes to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. But the fan favorite is also a pending free agent at the end of the season. Also missing from this season's derby is third baseman Alec Bohm, who had the most home runs in the first round with 21 and hit a total of 36 last year before being knocked out by the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández. What our Post expert thinks about the 2025 Home Run Derby It makes sense that Raleigh is the favorite given the fact that he leads the Major Leagues with 38 dingers, but the Home Run Derby has a way of surprising us all. Last year's winner, Teoscar Hernandez, was one of the biggest long shots in the field, and we've seen plenty of other sleepers, like Todd Frazier and Justin Morneau, take the crown. 21+. 2025 MLB Home Run Derby participants ranked by most likely to win

Jazz leaves the yard again! 🎷🎷 The 2025 Home Run Derby is set to take place Monday at 8 p.m. ET at Truist Park in Atlanta, and with no past champions in the field of eight, we're guaranteed to have a new winner for the fourth year in a row. In fact, only one of the participants has even been in a past derby, and that's Matt Olson of the home-town Braves, was last participated in 2021. So, there's perhaps even more unpredictability than usual with this field, which should make for an exciting finish. Here's a ranking of the field along with odds on a winner from BetMGM. 8. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (+1400) If Chisholm gets in a groove, he can be dangerous. It's just hard to project a strong finish in a field of superior power hitters. 7. Junior Caminero (+1000) If nothing else, Caminero will be a ton of fun to watch in this competition. I'm just not sure the 22-year-old's swing is ready to go the distance. 6. Matt Olson (+550) There have been other years I would have picked Olson to win the derby. This just doesn't feel like one of those years as Olson steps in as a replacement for injured teammate Ronald Acuña Jr. 5. Byron Buxton (+900) With the second-longest home run hit in 2025, I'm confident saying Buxton will hit a ball to the stars in this competition. But will he get a hold of enough balls to keep up? BYRON BUXTON HOMERS TO COMPLETE THE CYCLEON HIS BOBBLEHEAD DAY 🤯 4. Brent Rooker (+900) Rooker consistently hits the ball hard. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him walk away a winner as he trends towards a third-straight 30-homer season. 3. James Wood (+475) With his opposite-field power, Wood easily has the lowest pull percentage of any player in this field. I have questions about how well that will bode in this kind of competition. 2. Oneil Cruz (+310) Cruz has the best barrel and hard hit percentages of any player in the field, and leads the majors in average exit velocity. In a contest where he only has to worry about pitches up the middle, he's the betting favorite to win. 115.6 MPH458 FEETYou think Oneil Cruz is excited for the #HRDerby?! 1. Cal Raleigh (+360) Raleigh has five hits this month, and they've all been home runs. In other words, if he makes contact, there's a good chance the ball is leaving the park, which bodes well for MLB's home-run leader (38) in a derby.
