Where Notre Dame was ranked in each of its recruiting classes over the last 10 years

It's time to put into perspective what Notre Dame football is accomplishing with its 2026 recruiting class. While we have seen plenty of Irish recruits play well, we haven't really seen a group this talented heading to South Bend. It does seem like this is just the beginning of prolonged success, orchestrated by head coach Marcus Freeman. Let's take a look at the last ten years of Notre Dame recruiting classes, starting with the 2015 signees. (Note: All class and recruiting rankings are according to the 247Sports Rankings and Class Rankings. Also, the hits and misses are subjective, they're just my honest assessment.) 2015 Class rank No. 13 A class that struggled for the Irish, they went 36-15 over four years. This class would get things turned around for Notre Dame after a 4-8 season in 2016. They'd start a run of five-consecutive 10-plus win seasons the year after. Top five prospects: Quarterback Brandon Wimbush, offensive tackle Jerry Tillery, tight end Alize Mack, linebacker Josh Barajas, and offensive tackle Tristen Hoge Misses: Barajas, and Hoge Hits: Kicker Justin Yoon, cornerback Shaun Crawford, wide receiver Miles Boykin, linebacker Te'Von Coney, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, running back Dexter Williams, and running back Josh Adams 2016 Class ranking No. 15 If the 2015 class set the program up for success, the 2016 class carried that over. Multiple of the top prospects ended up having huge impacts for the Irish, and many of them went on to the NFL. The would have a 37-14 record over four years, as it wasn't pretty their first year on campus. Top five prospects: Offensive tackle Tommy Kraemer, offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg, cornerback Troy Pride Jr., wide receiver Javon McKinley, and outside linebacker Daelin Hayes Misses: McKinley, linebacker Jonathan Jones, and safety Devin Studstill Hits: Kraemer, Eichenberg, Pride, Hayes, wide receiver Chase Claypool, defensive end Julian Okwara, quarterback Ian Book, and cornerback Julian Love 2017 Class ranking No. 11 Loaded with top-end talent, Notre Dame didn't rank highly again, but its production on the field was elite. Multiple players would go onto having very successful careers in South Bend, as they'd go 43-8, the top record ever for a class, which included an undefeated regular season in 2018. Top prospects: Offensive tackle Josh Lugg, tight end Cole Kmet, guard Robert Hainsey, offensive tackle Aaron Banks, and tight end Brock Wright Misses: Wright, defensive tackle Darnell Ewell, safety Jordan Genmark Heath, and wide receiver Jafar Armstrong Hits: Lugg, Kmet, Hainsey, Banks, defensive end Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, outside linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, and defensive tackle Kurt Hinish 2018 Class ranking No. 10 This class misses on many of its top prospects, but still turned out to be a successful group. Notre Dame once again did a great job scouting, as they found multiple players who had very good careers. This group still got it done on the field, going 44-7. Top prospects: Defensive tackle Jayson Ademilola, safety Shayne Simon, linebacker Jack Lamb, quarterback Phil Jurkovec, and wide receiver Kevin Austin Misses: Simon, Lamb, Jurkovec, and wide receiver Braden Lenzy Hits: cornerback Houston Griffith, offensive tackle Jarrett Patterson, tight end Tommy Tremble, and linebacker Bo Bauer 2019 Class ranking No. 16 Some of these players stuck around until this past season, which clearly was a very successful one. Others left early, but this class was a solid one for Notre Dame. Over four years they'd go 41-10, just a bit shy of some of the others. Top prospects: Safety Kyle Hamilton, center Zeke Correll, offensive tackle Andrew Kristofic, defensive tackle Jacob Lacey, and offensive tackle Quinn Carroll Misses: Kristofic, Lacey, and Carroll Hits: Hamilton, Correll, linebacker Jack Kiser, defensive end Isaiah Foskey, linebacker JD Bertrand, running back Kyren Williams, defensive end Howard Cross III, and linebacker Marist Liufau 2020 Class ranking No. 18 Not the typical good class that the Irish have had in the past, it was a down year with this group. Notre Dame was able to still find multiple players who contributed, but this wasn't a very deep unit, but like the previous one, some of them would help this past season. They'd go 40-11 in four years. Top prospects: Tight end Michael Mayer, offensive tackle Tosh Baker, wide receiver Jordan Johnson, defensive end Jordan Botelho, and running back Chris Tyree Misses: Baker, Johnson, Tyree, and offensive tackle Michael Carmody Hits: Mayer, Botelho, wide receiver Xavier Watts, and defensive end Rylie Mills 2021 Class ranking No. 9 Like previous years, most of Notre Dame's talent from this class were from lower ranked prospects. One in particular stands out, but others played a big part in the Irish's recent success. They went 44-11 in four years. Top prospects: Offensive tackle Blake Fisher, quarterback Tyler Buchner, linebacker Prince Kollie, guard Rocco Spindler, and wide receiver Deion Colzie Misses: Buchner, Kollie, Colzie, and wide receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr. Hits: Fisher, Spindler, defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio, offensive tackle Joe Alt, running back Audric Estime, tight end Mitchell Evans, and offensive tackle Pat Coogan 2022 Class ranking No. 7 There was a ton of potential with this class, but more than a few of them didn't pan out for the Irish. Some did, and some are still major parts of the program, while others left early for the NFL or transferred out. So far in three years, they've gone 33-9 with a title game appearance. Top prospects: Linebacker Jaylen Sneed, tight end Eli Raridon, outside linebacker Josh Burnham, wide receiver Tobias Merriweather, offensive tackle Aamil Wagner Misses: Sneed, offensive tackle Joey Tanona, defensive end Aiden Gobaira, offensive tackle Ty Chan Hits: Wagner, running back Jadarian Price, interior offensive lineman Billy Schrauth, cornerback Benjamin Morrison, and quarterback Steve Angeli 2023 Class ranking No. 12 While the jury is still out on this class, it's loaded with top-end talent. Notre Dame hit on the majority of its top ranked signees, and on top of that has had a ton of production from the lower rated ones. This group is off to a great start, with a 24-5 record in two seasons. Top prospects: Offensive tackle Charles Jagusah, running back Jeremiyah Love, wide receiver Braylon James, defensive lineman Boubacar Traore, and quarterback Kenny Minchey Misses: James, edge Armel Mukam, cornerback Micah Bell, and defensive lineman Devan Houstan Hits: Jagusah, Love, Traore, Minchey, cornerback Christian Gray, linebacker Drayk Bowen, linebacker Jaiden Ausberry, wide receiver Jaden Greathouse, and safety Adon Shuler 2024 Class ranking No. 9 There won't be hits or misses for the next two classes, as there isn't nearly enough time to properly assess them. However, this has the makings of extremely talented bunch, led by the top recruits along with safety Brauntae Johnson, running back Aneyas Williams, cornerback Leonard Moore, and offensive tackle Anthonie Knapp. Top prospects: Defensive end Bryce Young, linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, quarterback CJ Carr, wide receiver Cam Williams, and offensive tackle Guerby Lambert 2025 Class ranking No. 12 While a few have already enrolled, they're all still getting their feet wet at this level. There are more than a few that will contribute, and others won't. The early reviews of this group are extremely positive, so don't be surprised to see many of them on the field this fall. Top prospects: Linebacker Madden Faraimo, safety JaDon Blair, wide receiver Scrap Richardson, athlete Nolan James Jr., wide receiver Elijah Burress

Former Nebraska defensive lineman transfers to Western Illinois

Former Nebraska defensive lineman transfers to Western Illinois Former Nebraska football defensive lineman David Borchers transferred to Western Illinois on Monday. He made the announcement on social media. Borchers entered the program as a walk-on after initially signing with Iowa Central Community College. He made the transition to the defensive line in 2024 after redshirting in 2023. He did not appear in any games in the 2024 season. The defensive lineman officially entered the transfer portal on April 29. Borchers was originally a three-star prospect and was ranked among the top 20 players in the state of Iowa in his recruiting class, per 247Sports Rankings. He officially enrolled at Nebraska on July 1, 2023 Borchers measures six feet four inches and weighs 300 pounds. His size can certainly be an asset, allowing him to play either side of the football. On top of this, he still has the opportunity to remain close to home. Now he has a chance to make a name for himself at the FCS level. Huskers offer rising class of 2027 quarterback

Huskers offer rising class of 2027 quarterback Nebraska football extended an offer to class of 2027 quarterback Keegan Croucher over the weekend. He made the announcement on social media. According to the 247Sports Rankings, Croucher is the 48th-ranked recruit nationally and the sixth-ranked quarterback in the 2027 class. He has had a storied football career to this point. During the fall of 2023, he threw for 2,957 yards, 31 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He then transferred to Cheshire Academy in April 2024. The quarterback has offers from the likes of Indiana, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Minnesota, and Michigan. Most recently, he was offered by Michigan State on March 19, prior to being offered by Nebraska. Currently, the 2027 Nebraska football recruiting class has no commitments in it. However, there are currently four quarterbacks on the roster for the Huskers. The program is also doing its homework on signal-caller Trae Taylor. They seem to want to make quarterback a priority position in the class and are doing their homework. Croucher could be a difficult quarterback to land, given that so many teams have an interest. It will be interesting to see where the Huskers fall with this recruitment.

Four-star offensive tackle to visit Nebraska later this month

Four-star offensive tackle to visit Nebraska later this month The Nebraska Cornhuskers will host a four-star class of 2027 recruit later this month. Offensive tackle Cooper Hackett will visit the Lincoln campus on March 26. Hackett is not ranked in the 247Sports Rankings, but he does have a growing offer sheet. Arkansas, North Carolina State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State have all extended offers to him. He measures 6-feet-7 and weighs 250 pounds. Hackett's recruitment has been active recently. On Monday, the Fighting Irish offered him a scholarship. All of his offers have come in March, as several teams begin to shift towards their 2027 classes. Over the last couple of classes, the Huskers have focused on the offensive line position quite a bit. They have several linemen on the roster ready to compete immediately. Nevertheless, building depth for the future at the position is the smart way to go. Currently, the 2027 recruiting class has zero commitments. However, we have seen a rise in offerings over the past few days, which should be the norm moving forward. Nebraska could use additional depth at the tackle position and Hackett's profile certainly indicates that he can potentially be a big-time player.

Nebraska extends offer to rising Illinois safety

Nebraska football extended an offer to 2027 defensive back Tavares Harrington on Saturday. He made the announcement on social media. Harrington is not ranked in the 247Sports Rankings. However, he does have a growing offer sheet, with seven scholarships in total. In addition to the Huskers, Louisville and Missouri are two of the more prominent schools that have extended scholarships. He took an unofficial visit to Louisville on March 6 and an unofficial visit to Missouri on March 8. Currently, the 2027 Nebraska football recruiting class has no commitments. However, that could change soon, with multiple visits and offers on the table for the program. The Huskers have been heavily recruiting the state of Illinois in recent weeks. Harrington would be a solid addition to a defense with a bright future and several impact playmakers.
