Despite hit Bollywood debut, this actor was eating what others wouldn't even call a meal. Later acted in Karan Johar movie
Before becoming a celebrated name in both television and cinema, actor Ronit Roy faced severe financial challenges during the early 1990s. Now widely known for his performances in Adaalat , 2 States, Student of the Year, and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi , Roy's path to success was anything but smooth. In a recent conversation on the Hindi Rush podcast, the actor reflected on his early career and the personal hardships that nearly broke him. Sharing his story, Roy admitted that despite landing a film debut with Jaan Tere Naam (1992), he remained financially unstable for a long time. Even after stepping into the industry, the money was just enough to get by, with no real financial comfort in sight. He revealed that his first payment was Rs 50,000, disbursed in monthly installments of Rs 4,000—a significant amount for him back then, but insufficient to lift him out of a hand-to-mouth existence. Isolation In Industry Ronit explained that one of the reasons his career didn't progress initially might have been his own reserved nature. He shared that he often stayed in his own space, avoiding the usual networking that many rely on in the entertainment world. Over time, this self-imposed isolation led to fewer work opportunities. 'I used to think about it a lot before, but now I don't,' he said while reflecting on that period. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Dhaba Incident That Stayed With Him A particularly emotional memory that Roy shared was from his time near Bandra station in Mumbai, where he used to eat at a small, well-known dhaba. Due to financial constraints, he could afford only one meal a day, usually alternating between two rotis with either kaali daal or palak paneer. One day, when he had run out of money, he asked the staff for just two rotis and some onions. The dhaba owner, recognizing Roy as a regular customer, handed him not just the rotis but also a serving of daal. When Roy pointed out that he hadn't asked for the lentils, the owner replied it was on the house, saying, 'Aaj aapka daal ka din hai.' The actor became visibly emotional recalling this gesture, stating that the man's face still remains etched in his memory. The experience, though painful, is one he cherishes because it reminded him of the kindness that can be found even in the harshest times. From Struggles to Stardom Despite these early difficulties, Ronit Roy's perseverance eventually paid off. He found success on television with roles in Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which helped him gain widespread recognition. Over time, his work in both TV and films earned him respect in the industry and a strong fan base. Today, Roy is considered one of the most dependable character actors in the Indian entertainment industry. His story, especially moments like the humble meal at the Bandra dhaba, serve as a reminder of the difficult road many artists travel before achieving fame.

After Aishwarya Rai, Wamiqa Gabbi weighs in on Karan Johar's unbridled support for Alia Bhatt; says she wants to ‘steal' him: ‘To have someone that powerful…'
A few years ago, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan spoke about Alia Bhatt's success and how Karan Johar had been a constant and massive support to her. Now, in a recent interaction, Wamiqa Gabbi has opened up about the same. The Jubilee actor went on to say that she 'wants to steal Karan from Alia Bhatt.' While talking to Nayandeep Rakshit, Wamiqa was asked what she would like to steal from other actresses. When it came to Alia Bhatt, Wamiqa responded with, 'Karan Johar.' She, however, explained her reason and shared that she would love to have the support of somebody as 'powerful' as Karan Johar in the film industry. She said, 'Because he has been her biggest supporter, and I think to have someone that powerful, talented and in that position—and to have that love that you share with that person, to have that person in your life—isn't that a beautiful thing?' Years ago, Aishwarya Rai had also spoken about Karan Johar's unbridled support for Alia Bhatt. She had said in an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, 'I've said this to her also—it's fantastic for you, the kind of support Karan has given to her from the beginning. To have that kind of establishment with you is very comforting. It's not tough to have it laid out for you for the longest time.' She added how Alia only had good opportunities and the best projects to choose from, all thanks to Karan. She said, 'It's great for you as an actor, as there is only good work and good opportunities ahead. What's nice is she's also doing good work along with great opportunities, which are virtually there on her lap, literally, regularly. So, it's nice she is doing good work within that. So kudos.' Karan Johar launched Alia Bhatt, daughter of director Mahesh Bhatt and actor Soni Razdan, in his 2012 film Student Of The Year. He has backed most of her hit projects like 2 States, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Kapoor & Sons, Dear Zindagi, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Raazi, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. After Aishwarya Rai, Wamiqa Gabbi highlights Karan Johar's support for Alia Bhatt in Bollywood; Reddit calls her 'gutsy'
Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt made her grand debut with Karan Johar's Student Of The Year and rose to fame with films like Highway, 2 States, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and more. She is now considered one of the most bankable stars in the industry. Previously, several Bollywood actors such as Aishwarya Rai, Sonakshi Sinha and others have spoken about the support Alia received from Karan Johar throughout her journey — and now, Wamiqa Gabbi has also expressed her desire to "steal" Karan from Alia. (Also Read: Wamiqa Gabbi admits pay disparity exists in Bollywood: 'Reasoning is that a male actor can pull more audience') In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, when asked what she would like to steal from Alia, Wamiqa replied, "Karan Johar," and explained: "Because he has been her biggest supporter, and I think to have someone that powerful, talented and in that position — and to have that love that you share with that person, to have that person in your life — isn't that a beautiful thing?" She further added that she'd like to steal Ananya Panday's skin, Keerthy Suresh's humility, Varun Dhawan's energy, Shah Rukh Khan's legacy, and Kriti Sanon's height. While some Reddit users were reminded of Aishwarya Rai's past remarks about Alia and Karan Johar, others thought Wamiqa was bold to say this. One user commented, 'Ash ki beti Wamiqa has more guts than nepo chaplus (She has more guts than nepo kids).' Another wrote, 'Aishwarya, Kangana, Kriti, and now Wamiqa! Alia keeps getting exposed!' A third user said, 'Alia won't like this compliment. Aishwarya to Aishwarya lookalike — they're all saying the same thing.' Another added, 'It's absolutely true though. Alia would've been launched by the Bhatts if not for KJo. She wouldn't have her current career without his constant lobbying and support.' One more comment read, 'Finally, a celeb said it aloud about KJo and Alia — lol.' Earlier, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had also commented on Alia's privileged position. She said, 'I've said this to her also — it's fantastic for you, the kind of support Karan has given to her from the beginning. To have that kind of establishment with you is very comforting. It's not tough to have it laid out for you for the longest time.' She added, 'It's great for you as an actor, as there is only good work and good opportunities ahead. What's nice is she's also doing good work along with great opportunities, which are virtually there on her lap, literally, regularly. So, it's nice she is doing good work within that. So kudos.' Alia will next be seen in Alpha, a film from the YRF Spy Universe, which also stars Sharvari. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film is slated for a theatrical release in December. She also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, in the pipeline. Wamiqa, on the other hand, will next be seen in the Netflix series Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom.
