Billy Joel shocks NYC pedicab driver, passengers playing his iconic song

He's got a way about him! Billy Joel surprised a pedicab driver and his passengers who were cruising down the streets of the Big Apple on Monday afternoon. The five-time Grammy Award winner shared the sweet street-side moment he rolled up on the bicycle transportation service, shocking the driver who was blasting Joel's 1976 hit 'New York State of Mind.' 'We're in a New York State of Mind…always,' Joel captioned the post. Advertisement 'Oh, Nice. You see, we are playing you,' the unidentified driver says, reaching his hand out to greet Joel. 'Can I take a picture with you, please?' he asked. The camera turned quickly to Joel as he smiled at the two rear-seated passengers, who were both equally surprised by the singer's appearance. 5 The pedicab driver looks over at Billy Joel's car before recognizing the singer. @billyjoel/Instagram Advertisement A second clip, reshared by Joel, captured the exchange from the outside as the pedicab driver and the two passengers got off the ride and walked up to the black SUV to take selfies with the singer as his song's ending blasted out of the speakers. Joel revealed in May that live performances led to 'problems with hearing, vision, and balance.' Doctors advised him to stop performing while he underwent treatment for the treatable disorder. Advertisement Joel described feeling like he was always on a boat. 'It was scary, but I'm okay,' he told the outlet. 'I just wanted to let people know, don't worry about me being deathly ill or anything.' Kelly Clarkson Beaten To No. 1 By 2025's Breakout Music Star

Kelly Clarkson returns to the Billboard charts as 'Where Have You Been' debuts at No. 2 on the ... More Digital Song Sales list, narrowly missing the top spot. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 04: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Kelly Clarkson attends the 66th GRAMMY Awards at Arena on February 04, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic) Kelly Clarkson had been teasing new music somewhat indirectly for much of 2025. The singer doesn't drop new tunes as frequently as she once did, as her focus these days is on her eponymous daytime talk show. Whenever she does share something new, though, her legion of followers — both those who have been with her for decades and countless daily viewers — rush not just to hear the track, but buy it. The Grammy and Emmy winner nearly nabs a new champion this week on the Billboard charts but misses out, coming in behind one of the hottest rising stars in the music industry. Clarkson launches her new single, 'Where Have You Been,' at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart, Billboard's ranking of the bestselling tunes across the U.S. Luminate reports that in its first tracking period of availability, Clarkson's latest sold a little more than 5,500 copies. That's a fairly small sum for the second-bestselling release in the nation, but this May has turned out to be a relatively quiet period in terms of major new releases — especially when looking strictly at pure purchases. Clarkson is beaten only by 'Ordinary' by Alex Warren. That breakout track, which is quickly turning the singer-songwriter into one of the most exciting new names in the business, remains at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart. The tune has led the tally for three of the 10 frames it has spent on the ranking. Warren beats Clarkson by fewer than 1,000 purchases, as 'Ordinary' sold another 6,400 copies last frame. That sum is down more than 10% from the period before, but it's still larger than any other cut managed during the same period. 'Where Have You Been' marks Clarkson's first new single as a lead artist — excluding holiday fare — in about a year. In the spring of 2024, she shifted focus to tracks from her most recent album Chemistry, which arrived in the summer of 2023. That set produced a handful of singles, although none of them became big wins in the U.S. As 'Where Have You Been' arrives, Clarkson earns her milestone fifteenth top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart. That list includes a trio of rulers, as she's led the charge with 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You),' 'My Life Would Suck Without You,' and, most recently, 'Piece by Piece.' Looking at the full list — which used to run longer than the 25 spots it includes these days — the American Idol winner has sent 43 different tunes to the competitive roster.

Lana Del Rey's First Blockbuster Rockets Up The Charts

As 'Bluebird' drops, Lana Del Rey sees Born to Die and Ultraviolence return to U.K. charts, with the ... More former rising on four rankings and nearing a 300-week milestone. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 04: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Lana Del Rey attends the 66th GRAMMY Awards at Arena on February 04, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic) There's a lot of excitement surrounding Lana Del Rey's music career at the moment as she heads toward the release of a brand new album. She's keeping fans on the edge of their seats, as she hasn't revealed an official release date for the set. In the months since she began talking about the effort, she's changed its title more than once, and currently, it doesn't even have a name. The singer-songwriter has already dropped multiple tunes from the forthcoming full-length, and fans seem to be loving everything she's offering. This week, as her latest cut 'Bluebird' arrives, interest in her catalog has surged once again. Del Rey brings multiple albums back to the charts in the United Kingdom, turning two different titles into bestsellers. As is almost always the case, Del Rey's debut full-length Born to Die remains her most successful project in the U.K. This frame, the title appears on five rankings, thanks to both strong sales and streaming — especially for a collection that's been out for well over a decade. This time around, it lifts on three of those lists, drops on just one (and only by a few spaces), and reenters the Official Vinyl Albums chart. It's a top 40 bestseller again on wax, landing at No. 39 after not appearing on the tally just last week. Born to Die also manages to ascend by more than 60 spaces on both the Official Albums Sales (No. 37) and the Official Physical Albums charts (No. 35). Last week, the U.K. rankings were packed with Record Store Day releases, which were only available to purchase physically — which helps explain why so many titles are rising this week and why many classics have returned simultaneously. The title also improves on the Official Albums Streaming ranking, rising three spots to No. 61. While it does decline by four spaces on the Official Albums chart, the fact that it's still living somewhere in the middle of the ranking of the most-consumed projects in the country — just one week away from its three hundredth stay on the tally — is amazing. Del Rey fills a pair of spots on the Official Physical Albums chart this week. Ultraviolence, Del Rey's 2014 release and second proper major studio offering, is back as a bestseller on vinyl, CD, and cassette once more. The title narrowly finds space on the list — which features 100 positions — as it reenters at No. 97. It has now spent 119 frames somewhere on this specific tally and, in the past, has climbed all the way to No. 1, something that Born to Die also managed.

Miley Cyrus Disappoints As Her New Single Launches Low

Miley Cyrus's 'End of the World' debuts on seven Billboard charts, but a No. 52 start on the Hot 100 ... More marks a slow beginning for her new era. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 04: Miley Cyrus performs onstage during the 66th GRAMMY Awards at Arena on February 04, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor The Recording Academy) Miley Cyrus has officially launched her new musical era, and while the excitement is palpable, the numbers aren't quite catching up just yet. The pop superstar has started promoting her upcoming full-length Something Beautiful, which is expected to drop on May 31. That rollout kicks off with 'End of the World,' the lead single from the project, which debuts on a number of Billboard charts this week. Despite Cyrus' status as one of the most recognizable names in pop and the attention surrounding her return, the track is off to a relatively slow start in terms of U.S. consumption. Still, this could be just the beginning for the single, as well as for what's sure to be another high-profile album campaign. 'End of the World' launches on seven different Billboard rankings this frame. The tune performs best when it comes to pure purchases and radio airplay, particularly on pop-focused stations. But when taking a look at the title's overall initial showing, its arrival may not be quite what Cyrus or her label were hoping for. The track opens at No. 52 on the Hot 100, the main list that ranks the most-consumed songs in America using a combination of sales, streams, and airplay. For a heavily-promoted release that serves as the first taste of a new, much-hyped era, failing to crack even the top half of the Hot 100 is a little troubling. To put that debut into perspective, consider how her last chapter began. 'Flowers,' the Grammy-winning lead single from Cyrus' previous album Endless Summer Vacation, opened at No. 1 on the Hot 100. It ended up staying in charge for eight weeks. Since then, several other Cyrus releases have easily reached the top 10 on that chart, including 'Used to Be Young' and her collaboration with Beyoncé, 'II Most Wanted.' Both of those tracks launched inside the highest tier on the Hot 100. Cyrus' new cut is only the fourth-highest debut on the Hot 100 this week, though it may have been one of the most discussed onlone. She trails a pair of relative newcomers, as BigXthaPlug and Bailey Zimmerman team up for 'All the Way,' which lands all the way at No. 4 — a massive opening for the rising stars. Ed Sheeran's 'Azizam' appears at No. 28, while hard rock outfit Sleep Token manages to kick off its latest, 'Caramel,' at No. 34. Even though 'End of the World' didn't perform especially well on the Hot 100, it does notch a solid placement on one of Billboard's sales-focused tallies. The track debuts at No. 12 on the Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling songs in the U.S. based on paid downloads. According to Luminate, the cut sold 2,600 purchases in its first seven days of availability. Radio also gives the track an early lift, as it earns a healthy debut on all three of Billboard's pop-focused airplay charts. Programmers seem optimistic about the tune's potential, as it's an instant top 40 on the trio of tallies. While domestic performance is mixed, the story isn't much better internationally. 'End of the World' failed to reach the top 40 on either of the company's major worldwide rankings—the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Something Beautiful is set to arrive on May 31, and 'End of the World' is supposed to serve as its foundation. She's also released two other tracks, a prelude and the title tune, with the latter reaching one of Billboard's rock lists this time around – though even that start is fairly low.
