9-1-1 Season 9: Everything We Know About the ABC Drama's Fall Return
Even if math isn't your strong suit, you should know that 9-1-1 fans minus the 118 equals one very long summer. Season 8 marked a major turning point for the ABC procedural, with the death of Captain Bobby Nash (played by Peter Krause) thrusting the firehouse into uncharted, uncertain territory. With the pain of his loss still fresh, along with the myriad changes that follow such an unexpected event, fans are eager to see how the 118 will navigate this strange new world in Season 9. More from TVLine Eva LaRue Leaving General Hospital The Bachelor (Finally) Renewed at ABC, Gets New Showrunner Wimbledon 2025: How to Watch the Tennis Matches Live Online Aside from Krause, however, the show's entire roster of series regulars is expected back for Season 9, including Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Oliver Stark as Evan 'Buck' Buckley, Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Chimney Han, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Han, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz. So, what new drama awaits those familiar faces? Read on for a complete breakdown of everything we know about 9-1-1 Season 9 so far, then drop a comment with your own hopes for the 118's return this fall. Though an official premiere date has not yet been announced, we do know that new episodes of Season 9 will air Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC this fall. 9-1-1 will be followed by spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville at 9 pm, then Grey's Anatomy Season 22 at 10 pm. Production on the procedural's ninth season is expected to begin sometime in mid-to-late July, according to Oliver Stark, who said in a June 24 interview that he's returning to set 'in about a month.' Ryan Guzman had 9-1-1 fans concerned in May when he posted a farewell story to Instagram, fueling speculation that Eddie's time on the show was coming to an end. 'Well, it officially happened,' Guzman said. 'It's the last day on this lot. Stage 6, I'll miss ya. Seven years. That's crazy.' But this turned out to be much ado about nothing. Guzman was merely saying goodbye to the Fox lot, where 9-1-1 has filmed since it premiered in 2018; the show is relocating to Burbank for Season 9. Following Bobby's untimely demise, the 118 is in serious need of new leadership. Hen was the logical first choice, but when she turned down the promotion, the fandom's collective attention shifted to Chimney, whose inspiring finale speech all but guaranteed him the gig. If you were hoping to spend more time in the home that Bobby and Athena built, you're out of luck. Despite initially balking at the idea, Athena ultimately put the house up for sale in the Season 8 finale, leaving curious fans to wonder where she'll be putting down roots next. And could Athena's major life changes also apply to her career? Only time will tell. Everything we know so far about speculations on ‘9-1-1' season 9
By Aman Shukla Published on June 25, 2025, 19:00 IST Last updated June 25, 2025, 12:08 IST Alright, 9-1-1 fans, we're still catching our breath after that emotional rollercoaster of a Season 8 finale. Bobby's death hit us hard, and now we're all itching to know what's next for our favorite LA first responders. The buzz for Season 9 is real, with fans tossing around wild theories and counting down the days. So, let's dive into what we know about 9-1-1 Season 9—when it's dropping, who's back, and the juiciest plot rumors swirling around. When Does 9-1-1 Season 9 Premiere? ABC gave the green light for Season 9 back in April 2025, so we're definitely getting more of our favorite firefighters and dispatchers. No exact date's been dropped yet, but if the show sticks to its usual rhythm, expect it to land sometime in late September or early October 2025. It'll likely hold its Thursday 8:00 p.m. ET slot on ABC, right before the shiny new spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville . Word is we're getting 18 episodes, same as Season 8. You can watch live on ABC or stream next day on Hulu. Other options? YouTube TV, FuboTV, or the ABC app if you've got a cable login. Cast Updates for 9-1-1 Season 9 The core cast is expected to return, though one major absence will shape the season. Here's who we anticipate seeing: Angela Bassett as Athena Grant Nash, the LAPD sergeant navigating personal and professional challenges. Oliver Stark as Evan 'Buck' Buckley, the firefighter exploring new personal growth. Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley, Buck's sister and 9-1-1 dispatcher, now a mother of two. Kenneth Choi as Howard 'Chimney' Han, a key firefighter and Maddie's husband. Aisha Hinds as Henrietta 'Hen' Wilson, the firefighter and paramedic who declined the captain role. Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, grappling with family dynamics. Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz, Eddie's son. Anirudh Pisharody as Ravi Panikkar, whose role is expected to expand. Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Tommy Kinard, Buck's romantic interest. The big news? Peter Krause won't be a regular since Captain Bobby Nash died in Season 8 after catching a virus in a lab fire. Fans are heartbroken, but showrunner Tim Minear teased Bobby could pop up in flashbacks or dream sequences. Angela Bassett's sly comment about a 'closed casket' has some folks wondering if Bobby's really gone for good. Set photos showing a firefighter's funeral have only fueled the chatter. What's the Plot for Season 9? ABC's keeping the story under wraps, but Season 8 left us with plenty to chew on. Bobby's death has the 118 in pieces, and Season 9 will likely dig into how they pick up and move forward. Here's what's on the radar, plus some fan guesses: Who's the New Captain? With Bobby gone, someone's gotta lead Station 118. Hen said no to the captain's job last season, feeling she couldn't fill Bobby's boots. Chimney stepped up big time in the finale, so he's a fan favorite to take over. Oliver Stark said Buck's got his eye on leadership someday, but he's not there yet. Some X users are dreaming up a dark twist, like a villain messing with the team over Bobby's death, stirring up trouble across LA. Athena's Next Chapter Athena's world got turned upside down. Losing Bobby means she's carrying a ton of grief, and Bassett hinted she might need counseling to get through it. Expect her to lean hard into her police work, maybe facing new risks or old ghosts, like the guy who killed her ex, Emmett. Buck's Journey Buck's been on a roll, coming out as bi in Season 7 and dating Tommy. Oliver Stark wants their romance to feel steady, maybe even grow deeper. Fans are hoping Buck bonds more with Hen over their shared queer experiences. A new work buddy in Ravi could shake things up, and there's talk of a 'Ravi Begins' episode to spill his backstory. Eddie and Christopher Eddie's headed to Texas to fix things with his son, Christopher, after a rough patch. Tim Minear says Eddie's all-in on being a better dad, but will he stay in Texas or come back to the 118? Some fans are rooting for an Eddie-Buck romance, but that's just wishful thinking for now. Maddie and Chimney Maddie and Chimney welcomed their son, Robert, named after Bobby. But Maddie's Season 8 kidnapping by a serial killer was intense, and that trauma might linger. Their family, including their tie to Athena, will keep us invested. Big Emergencies 9-1-1 loves going big, like the 'bee-nado' or that plane crash in Season 8. Fans are betting Season 9 starts with a wild disaster, maybe a multi-episode event. Could it tie to that rumored bad guy targeting the team? We'll probably get a teaser this summer to clue us in. Jack Schlossberg Urges Ryan Murphy Against 'Grotesque' Depiction Of JFK Jr. In ‘American Love Story'
As Ryan Murphy prepares to debut his next piece of nonfiction in his American Story franchise, one member of the Kennedy family is speaking up. Jack Schlossberg recently commented on FX's American Love Story, which premieres in February 2026, recounting the high-profile, yet doomed public romance between his uncle John F. Kennedy Jr. and wife Carolyn Bessette. More from Deadline 'American Love Story' Sets February 2026 Premiere; Ryan Murphy Shares First Look Photos Of Paul Kelly & Sarah Pidgeon As JFK Jr. & Carolyn Bessette Erik Menendez Calls Ryan Murphy's 'Monsters' A 'Dishonest Portrayal' '9-1-1: Nashville': ABC Spinoff Unveils Explosive New Teaser 'Lately, my news feed has been filled with pictures of my uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., a great man,' he said on his Instagram Story, according to Entertainment Weekly. 'For those wondering whether his family was ever consulted, or has anything to do with the new show being made about him, the answer is no, and there's really not much we can do.' The Vogue political correspondent explained that New York state law doesn't protect someone's right to privacy after death, 'which includes the ability to control your own name, image and likeness,' adding: 'And for that matter, he's considered a public figure, so there's not much we can do.' His video comes after Murphy debuted a first look at Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon as the famous couple as production kicked off earlier this month in New York City. 'I hope those making this show about him take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it, and that they donate some of the profits [from] what they're making to the John F. Kennedy Library,' he wrote. Schlossberg clarified, 'For the record, I think admiration for my uncle John is great. What I don't think is great is profiting off of it in a grotesque way.' The series focuses on JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's love story, which started as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, began to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel-gaze of tabloid media. The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.
