BJP accuses Congress of misleading BCs with unconstitutional ordinance on reservations
Hyderabad: At a media conference held at the BJP Telangana State Office, BJP State General Secretary Kasam Venkateswarlu strongly criticized the Congress Party's stance on Backward Classes (BCs) reservation, accusing it of misleading the public and violating legal norms. Addressing the media on Wednesday, he alleged that the Congress Party had reached the 'peak of vile politics' in Telangana and was trying to manipulate BCs with false promises. He cited the Kamareddy Declaration, which claimed to offer 42 percent reservation for BCs in local bodies, and questioned its legal validity. 'The Congress is using Telangana as a political laboratory,' he said, adding that the ordinance issued lacked Assembly approval and legal backing. Referring to constitutional hurdles, Venkateswarlu reiterated that BJP State President Ramchander Rao, a legal expert, had clarified the implications of the 9th Schedule and emphasized that religious-based reservations are not permissible. He further warned that by allegedly allocating portions of BC quotas to Muslims, the ordinance would only deliver 32 percent actual reservation to BCs, calling it 'unconstitutional. He highlighted Congress's prior failure to fulfill reservation promises—including the Udaipur Declaration and caste census commitments in Karnataka—and criticized its lack of representation for BCs at the Chief Minister and Prime Minister levels. Calling for transparency, Venkateswarlu urged the Congress government to publicly release details of the caste census and clarify its legal strategy for implementing BC reservations. He stressed the need for a constitutionally sound law instead of pre-election ordinances, which he described as 'short-sighted appeasement tactics.' Venkateswarlu stated that the BJP has consistently worked to uplift Dalits, Bahujans, BCs, and middle-class communities—citing its central cabinet composition as proof of its inclusive governance. He reaffirmed the BJP's promise to appoint a BC Chief Minister if elected in Telangana and called on the people to hold Congress accountable to its guarantees.

Indisciplined in party will face stick, warns TG BJP president
Hyderabad: BJP Telangana chief N Ramchander Rao stated that if anyone in the party is indisciplined, disciplinary action will be taken and emphasized that there is no distinction between old and new members, claiming that such differences are narratives created by some individuals. Addressing the media in the national capital on Monday, he affirmed that any leader who harms the party or violates discipline will face consequences. As state president, he aims to resolve any minor issues that arise within the party. He also mentioned that if there are problems concerning leaders and workers, the national leadership will address them. In his first visit to Delhi after assuming office as BJP Telangana State President, he addressed the media, expressing his desire to seek blessings and guidance from the party's central leadership to strengthen the party in the state. During his visit, he met with Sunil Bansal, Arvind Menon, and Nitin Gadkari. He noted that he would meet BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in Parliament the following day. Rao criticized Congress party leaders for misleading the people of the country and Telangana, pointing out that while significant issues were being discussed in Parliament, the main opposition leader was absent, making their criticisms of the BJP seem unreasonable. He highlighted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had visited Delhi 46 times in the last 19 months. Yet key Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, did not grant him an appointment; on the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers did. He said that preventing Rahul Gandhi from meeting with Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, is an insult to the people of Telangana. Rao also criticized the Congress government for blaming the central government regarding the 42% reservation for backward classes (BCs). A bill was introduced in the Assembly to provide 42% reservation in local body elections, which the BJP fully supported. However, Rao expressed concern about a conspiracy to implement 10% reservation for Muslim minorities even before the ordinance is finalized, stating that the BJP opposes religious and political reservations. Congress leaders have proposed that to grant 42% reservation to Backward Classes (BCs), it should be included in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. Rao questioned whether legal advice had been obtained during the Cabinet discussions, emphasizing that granting a 42% reservation would exceed the 50% cap imposed by the Supreme Court. He stated that for the increase in BC reservation percentages, amending Section 285 of the Panchayati Raj Act is necessary. Despite this, Rao pointed out that the Congress government is now considering bringing an ordinance on BC reservations without a clear understanding of the 9th Schedule process. He reminded that in 1973, the Supreme Court clarified in the Kesavananda Bharati case that even if a law is included in the 9th Schedule, it is still subject to judicial review. He cited the ongoing pending case regarding the reservation law, included in the 9th Schedule in Tamil Nadu by Jayalalithaa, emphasizing that the final decision has yet to be made. Rao accused the Congress government of misleading the people regarding the 42% BC reservation and asserted that Congress should apologize for deceiving the BC community. He criticized Congress leaders for being aware of the Supreme Court verdict and the need to amend Section 285 but still not engaging in substantive discussions. He advised that the Congress party, instead of blaming the central government, focus on implementing the promised 42% reservation. The BJP, he reiterated, remains against religious reservations.

BJP Telangana President slams Congress over BC reservation issue
Hyderabad, July 21 (UNI) BJP Telangana State President N Ramchander Rao on Monday came down heavily on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of misleading the public on the issue of 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections and playing political games for electoral gain. Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi during his first visit to the capital after taking charge, Rao said he was seeking blessings and guidance from the party's central leadership to strengthen the BJP in the state. He informed that he met senior leaders Sunil Bansal, Arvind Menon, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and is scheduled to meet BJP National President J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. Criticising the Congress party's approach, he said, "While key national issues are being discussed in Parliament, the main opposition leader is missing. Yet, they have the audacity to criticise the BJP." He pointed out that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had visited Delhi 46 times in the last 19 months, but top Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi did not grant him an appointment even once. 'This is not just an insult to the CM but to the people of Telangana,' he said. On the issue of BC reservations, Rao asserted that the Congress government is trying to divert public attention by bringing up the 9th Schedule without understanding the legal process. 'Even if a law is included in the 9th Schedule, the Supreme Court can still review it, as made clear in the Kesavananda Bharati case and reiterated in the I.R. Coelho judgment,' he said. He questioned the Congress for failing to amend Section 285 of the Panchayati Raj Act in the Assembly, which is necessary to legally raise BC reservation percentages. 'The Congress is blaming the Centre unnecessarily, while not doing its own homework. They brought the ordinance only after the High Court's permission, and now they are trying to blame others,' he said. He said the BJP supported the bill in the Assembly when it was introduced but made it clear that the party is completely opposed to religious-based reservations. 'The attempt to provide 10 per cent reservation to Muslim minorities under this ordinance is nothing but communal and political appeasement,' he said. Rao accused the Congress government of deliberately delaying the local body elections under the guise of the reservation issue. 'They are indulging in drama to mislead the BC community instead of acting responsibly,' he charged. Taking a swipe at both Congress and BRS, he said, 'They are two sides of the same coin. Both parties attended meetings led by DMK's Stalin, revealing their political alignment.' Reiterating his commitment as the new state BJP chief, Rao said he would address any issues within the party and maintain internal discipline. He assured that both state and national leaderships would work together to resolve any differences among leaders or workers. 'Instead of playing blame games, the Congress should immediately implement the 42 per cent BC reservation it promised,' he called for legal clarity, transparency, and an end to what he termed as 'vote bank politics.'
