Saudi Arabia continues to make history on the global motorsport stage, as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship confirmed that the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix double-header became the most-watched Formula E weekend in history, with an unprecedented 65 million global cumulative viewers, according to data analysis from Kantar Media. Held under the lights of the iconic Jeddah Corniche Circuit on February 14-15, the races marked the championship's thrilling debut in the Red Sea city after six successful seasons in Diriyah. Jeddah's unique night racing spectacle, coupled with a state-of-the-art circuit and electric atmosphere, has cemented the Kingdom's growing reputation as a premier destination for world-class motorsport. Jeddah is confirmed to once again host the only double-header night races on the Formula E calendar in Season 12, which will be held on February 13-14, 2026. In addition to the record-setting Jeddah rounds, Formula E has seen exceptional growth this season with the data analysis showing unprecedented audience growth across TV and social media for the first half of the 2024-25 season, with its cumulative audience due to surpass 500 million by the end of Season 11. Digital audiences analysed through Emplifi have also shown impressive growth, with social video views and engagement up 13% and 12% respectively, underscoring the vibrant and interactive fan community the series continues to build. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship's 11th season – which started in São Paulo in December 2024 and will culminate in London on July 26-27 – has so far delivered some of the most exciting racing action in world motorsport, while continually pushing the boundaries of electric performance. So far this season, its 22 world-class drivers have engaged in intense, head-to-head competition, captivating fans with epic battles on iconic circuits and nail-biting finishes at new venues. Mexico City (Round 2) delivered the highest ever single-race TV audience in Formula E history, with a cumulative global audience of 44 million. In the United States, CBS' coverage of Mexico City set a new benchmark as the most-watched Formula E broadcast ever in the country, reaching 11 million viewers. In France, Round 8 in Monaco delivered a 25% increase in viewership compared to Season 10's race. Tokyo (Rounds 9) saw the biggest Formula E TV audience ever in Japan, with the race recording a 20% higher audience than S10 on Fuji TV. Formula E Season 11 races draw larger audiences than ever before According to the latest figures from Kantar Media, a record-breaking cumulative audience of 44 million tuned in to watch the Mexico E-Prix — Round 2 of the season held in January. Image credit: Formula E As the Formula E season reaches Round 12, the drivers are set to head to Indonesia for the Jakarta E-Prix. The single-header will be held at the picturesque Ancol Beach street track in Jakarta on June 21. The venue is Southeast Asia's largest park, which sees around 40,000 visitors a day. The race marks the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship's return to Jakarta after Season 9. Here's all about the track that will host the Gen3 Evo race for the first time. All about the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit in Ancol The design of the 2.37 km Ancol Beach track is inspired by the Kuda Lumping—a flat horse woven from bamboo and decorated with colourfully painted cloth, which a dancer rides for the traditional Javanese dance. The dancers appear to enter a trance-like state during the dance, which requires a lot of physical power. The track features unique banked sections, undulations, bumps, and a mix of technical and high-speed zones, all expected to test the skill of the Formula E drivers. The 18-turn circuit kicks off with a tight opening sector after a long run down the start/finish straight. There is plenty of room for manoeuvre into the right-hander at Turn 1 before drivers head into a flowing series of turns that swoop by Ancol Beach City. The final sector is a tricky complex following a fast right-hander at Turn 12 and another long straight into what will be a busy Turn 13 hairpin. An awkward left-hander at Turn 18 rounds out the lap, with a strong slingshot required down the long home straight. The circuit also aims to help revive tourism in the island nation, which was significantly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The last Jakarta E-Prix was held in Season 9 (2023–24), marking the second race after the inaugural edition in 2022. This will be the third time the Formula E race is held in Jakarta. The UAE's prominence on the global motorsport stage has been underlined for another year with confirmation of the FIA's major world championship calendars for 2026. The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place at Yas Marina Circuit from December 4-6 next year in a championship, which will see the next generation of F1 cars running on 100% sustainable fuels. This was confirmed at the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Macau on Tuesday, which was chaired by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem as the federation's global community gathered for the FIA's annual conference. The 2026 FI World Championship again includes three other Middle East rounds, in Bahrain on April 10-12, Saudi Arabia from April 17-19 and Qatar from November 27-29. Saudi again stages back-to-back Jeddah races in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar on February 13-14, while the Middle East also has four rounds in the 2026 F2 Championship coinciding with the F1 races in Bahrain, Saudi, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem speaks during the meeting. Once again, the Dakar Rally in Saudi commences next year's FIA World Rally-Raid Championship from January 3-17, with the Rally du Maroc taking place from September 28 to October 3 and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge on November 22-27. Bahrain represents the Middle East in the ten-round F3 calendar. Ben Sulayem told World Motor Sport Council members: '2025 is proving to be an exciting year across all our championships with technological milestones being reached, new talent emerging, and battles being fought on the track and across stages each week. 'This year is a powerful opportunity for us to innovate and grow. New agreements across our championships are unlocking fresh potential, we are enhancing the level of competition and expanding our global reach. Each race across our championships shows the passion and dedication of our community.' The World Council approved one of the final pieces of the compelling puzzle that is coming together to mark the start of a brand-new era for the FIA World Rally Championship from 2027. The WRC27 rule set has been undergoing its final refinements and updates over the past six months, and confirmation in Macau of the reference volumes for bodywork cements the commitment set out by the FIA to put flexibility at the core of these regulations. To achieve this, the rules define a zone in which all of the bodywork panels must be located, but within this volume, manufacturers and constructors have the freedom to scale and integrate almost any design. This means that, without effecting performance, cars ranging from saloons to hatchbacks, cross-overs and completely bespoke designs could be entered over the ten-year regulation cycle through to 2037. Meanwhile, a new street circuit in Madrid will make its debut on the Formula 1 schedule in September of next year, replacing the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
