Photo of the week: Teslas leave Austin by train out of the RCR Taylor Logistics Park
Hundreds of Teslas can be spotted at any given time at the RCR Taylor Logistics Park, sandwiched between Samsung's new factory in Taylor and the Hutto Megasite, about 30 miles north of the Tesla gigafactory. The electric vehicle manufacturer for years has used the auto ramp there — one of the few private options in the country — to ship its finished models by rail. Business advocacy groups focused on Austin
As the State Capitol, Austin is home to many nonprofit organizations that advocate on behalf of businesses and the issues that concern them. The business advocacy lists are open to all industries and groups with a mission to advance the best interests of its members, the industry and the community they serve. This list highlights Austin groups and local concerns. See also the companion list for Texas-wide advocacy groups that also call Austin home. To be eligible, the organization must be headquartered in Austin and file a 990 tax form here. Listmakers are grouped according geographic scope of service and ranked by revenue. Data is compiled from nonprofit 990 tax filings accessed from for the fiscal year ending in 2023, the most recent time frame available. Additional data provided by ABJ surveys and organization websites. Most organizations listed are 501(c)(6) with a few exceptions for (c)(4) and (c)(3) designations. Lobbying activity is not required for the list and some organizations included are politically neutral. While Chambers of Commerce are business advocates, they are not included on this list. Here are 33 chambers of commerce in the Austin area
The 2025 list of of Austin-area chambers of commerce is open to chambers in the six-county coverage area that includes Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell and Burnet counties. The list includes chambers representing local townships and geographical areas, as well as chambers representing groups by age, ethnicity, gender and gender identity. Chambers are ranked by their membership. Each business counts as one member. Information is gathered from ABJ surveys sent to chamber representative to update membership data and current executives. In addition, IRS 990 filings for fiscal year 2023 are accessed from or provided by the chamber. See also a related list of business advocacy groups.
