Popular UK theme park shuts NINE of its rides over ‘public safety' fears amid watchdog probe
A POPULAR UK theme park has closed a whopping nine rides over 'public safety' fears. This comes after a routine inspection by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). This was after the Devon theme park was apparently unable to show valid safety checks to the watchdog during the visit. As part of an ongoing programme of inspections, the HSE attended the site on June 26th. This is part of a wider look at fixed and mobile fairgrounds across the UK to make people more comfortable with theme park safety. Advertisement READ MORE ON THEME PARKS The body explained that the site near Dartmouth was "unable to provide sufficient assurance" around the safety of nine of its rides. It seems that the "declarations of compliance" for some of the attractions were missing. The inspection is part of a wider scheme that was the industry's adopted standard for inspection and certification when it comes to fairgrounds and amusement parks. It was started to improve safety standards and increase confidence from the public in consultation with the HSE. This was after the director of an inspection company was suspended from their position in the Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS). The outlet reported that it stated: "After David Geary of DMG Technical Limited was suspended from the Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS), Declarations of Compliance for the nine rides were missing. Advertisement "HSE took proactive action to stop them being used until the issue was resolved. "Woodlands Family Theme Park urgently commissioned an inspection body, who produced the Declarations of Compliance required, meaning the rides could reopen with minimal delay." Statement by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) HSE inspector Melissa Lai-Hung explained the park was closed "in the interests of public safety." "This action was taken in the interests of public safety. At this time of year, any enforcement action will cause inconvenience, but it is vital that those who enjoy amusement parks are kept safe and feel reassured. We thank Woodlands for their co-operation to resolve this matter." Meanwhile, Woodlands Family Theme Park said: "We take HSE-related compliance legislation very seriously. As soon as this was brought to our attention, all the rides were reinspected by another registered inspector. We would like to add that at no time would Woodlands ever be involved in anything related to non-compliance of safety. We have and will remain totally committed to raising and maintaining standards in our industry." In a statement referred to The Sun, HSE inspector Melissa Lai-Hung said: "This action was taken in the interests of public safety. "At this time of year, any enforcement action will cause inconvenience, but it is vital that those who enjoy amusement parks are kept safe and feel reassured. In a statement released through HSE, Woodlands Family Theme Park said: "We take HSE-related compliance legislation very seriously. "As soon as this was brought to our attention, all the rides were reinspected by another registered inspector." The park added: "We would like to add that at no time would Woodlands ever be involved in anything related to non-compliance of safety. Children hurt as fairground car crashes off ride
A funfair in Edinburgh has closed early after three children were injured when part of a ride came loose and crashed into a speaker. Operators of the Galactic Carnival at Westside Plaza in Wester Hailes said they had taken the decision to shutter the attraction following the incident on the waltzer ride on Saturday evening. The children, aged seven, 12 and 13, were taken to hospital for treatment on minor injuries but were subsequently released. Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are investigating. The children's father said the ride was going at "full pelt" when the car carrying the siblings detached. He said the carriage crashed against the one behind, which he was in, before going off the side of the track and colliding with a large speaker. He said: "Thankfully there was a heavy, large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a different story, a thought I can't stop thinking about." Galactic Carnival apologised to the family involved and said the event would be "closed to assist in any investigation". The said all rides underwent "extensive safety testing" and were inspected by the Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS). They said: "We are truly sorry for the distress caused by the incident at our event. Public safety at our events has always been, and continues to be, our top priority. "This incident is now being investigated by third party inspection bodies and the HSE. "We have decided to close the event to allow for investigation to take place." Tickets for future dates will be refunded automatically. A Police Scotland spokesperson said inquiries were ongoing. In a statement, the HSE added: "HSE is aware of the incident and making inquiries."

Edinburgh fairground apologises and closes after waltzer flew off tracks at high speed
Organisers confirmed the event would be closed while an investigation takes place. An Edinburgh fairground has closed down and issued an apology after a waltzer came off the tracks and crashed at high speed during a family day out. On Saturday, May 10, dad-of-three Kevin McNulty and his partner Brooke were with his children, Kayla, 13, Leona, 12, and Codie, 7, at Galactic Carnival in Westside Plaza Wester Hailes, when the terrifying incident occurred. Panic soon set in while the children were enjoying the waltzer ride, as while the cars spun around at pace, Kevin's kids' car came off the track. The children could be heard screaming in terror in the footage, with the clip ending as the car came to a stop and Kevin raced around to be with his children. Organisers, Galactic Carnival, have now apologised to the family and announced that their event will be closed while an investigation takes place. Galactic Carnival Edinburgh over the weekend. All tickets purchased for future dates will be refunded automatically through our ticketing agent Skiddle. Once again we are truly sorry for the distress this has caused." Speaking to the Record, Kevin explained how he was in the car behind with Brooke when the incident happened. He said: "I just noticed the children's car spinning our way, but it didn't stop and just smashed off us and then went flying past. "I didn't think and just jumped up and off the ride while it was still going at full pelt without even thinking. I ran around towards where the car had landed and thankfully they were alright and hadn't suffered any injuries. "Even today I am still in complete shock. I feel sick just thinking about it and how bad it could all have gone. We are all just extremely lucky that the children weren't badly hurt." Posting about the incident initially, Kevin said: 'Last night we were at these shows at Wester Hailes three kids were on the waltzers and then the unthinkable happened. "Going full pelt and not slowing down their car came completely off and then went flying into our car and then smashed about the place crashing into the side off the track. "Thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story. I can't stop thinking about it.' He continued: 'The shows continued to go, but not the waltzers. The place should have been shut down for a full inspection. It was like something you see in the movies and my kids are very, very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking.'
