Jason Sudeikis films Ted Lasso with Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple in Kansas City
On Monday, production kicked off on the highly anticipated next installment of Ted Lasso, which is being filmed in none other than Kansas City - star Jason Sudeikis 's real-life hometown. In images, obtained by several of the show's fan-favorite cast members, including Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, and Jeremy Swift, were all seen reprising their iconic roles on location at a sunny soccer field. The stateside pivot marks the first time Ted Lasso has filmed in the U.S. after three Emmy-winning seasons set across the pond. Additional scenes are still expected to shoot in London, where the fictional AFC Richmond made their unlikely rise. While plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, Sudeikis was seen in his character's signature mustache and sweater combo. Temple rocked a tied-up yellow shirt with a soccer ball on it, black studded miniskirt and 'KC' baseball cap. Waddingham also opted for a casual ensemble, which consisted of a navy 'Kansas City' tee and pants. The cast's sighting comes after Apple TV's head of development, Matt Cherniss, told Deadline he has 'high hopes for season four of Ted Lasso.' He said in July: 'I have high hopes for season four of Ted Lasso, we're just getting down that road. I don't know what more can be said about Ted Lasso that hasn't already been said, and we're so excited that it's coming back. 'I don't think I want to say anything about the direction that the show is going, only that I think if you love Ted Lasso you're gonna love the next season.' Four months earlier, Sudeikis confirmed there will be a season four of Ted Lasso while appearing on Travis and Jason Kelce's New Heights. The actor teased: 'Ted's coaching a women's team, so there, that's it.' Lasso, the American football-turned soccer coach played by Sudeikis, had coached fictional Premier League side AFC Richmond in the first three seasons of the show. In response to Sudeikis' revelation for season 4, Travis asked if that meant Lasso would be returning to his native US. Sudeikis playfully replied: 'That's too many questions,' before noting he didn't actually know the answer himself. Sudeikis added that coming up with a new season was both 'exciting' and 'daunting.' He said: 'Because we told the story we wanted to tell, but there's more there and it is a neat group of people to work with.' The former SNL star, 49, noted that 'the universe kept just saying things' after Hollywood emerged from the actors' and writers' strike in 2023. '... Whether [it was kind folks at airports, or on the internet, or friends of my folks or just other people in the industry... and I was just like, 'Ok, I hear you.'' The series' co-creator, Bill Lawrence, gave life to a possible fourth season of the show in August, when he suggested the decision ultimately came down to Sudeikis. He told Collider: 'As fans, we'd all kill if it was going again, but everybody would say the same thing, which is: whatever Jason feels like doing and whatever his decision is, we're all down with it.' The show's return comes after earning 20 Primetime Emmy Awards in its first season, and winning seven including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Sudeikis. Players: Once again, the fortunes of a soccer team appear to be central to the show's plotline Since premiering in 2020, the series has received 61 Primetime Emmy Awards nods. It's also received a Producers Guild of America Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Writers Guild of America Awards, as well as nominations for five Directors Guild of America Awards. It has received two Golden Globe Awards, seven Critics' Choice Television Awards, and three TCA Awards. At this time, no release date for Season 4 of Ted Lasso has been revealed.

Here's what Ted Lasso season 4 needs to do to succeed
Filming for the fourth season of the hit Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso, has finally begun, building hype for what the show has in store for audiences with its new episodes. It has already been revealed that Ted Lasso season 4 will see the titular character reunite with his pals at AFC Richmond and return to London to coach a women's football team. This upcoming season will mark a long-awaited return to one of the most beloved TV shows in recent memory. It's anyone's guess how Ted Lasso will continue the stories of Ted and his friends at Richmond, especially since the season 3 conclusion — the original series finale — seemingly wrapped everything up. It's unknown how the fourth season and its new story will rank amongst the rest of this Emmy Award-winning series. Whatever happens, Ted Lasso season 4 needs to accomplish a lot to improve upon the show's past mistakes, appeal to longtime fans, and succeed once more on streaming. Ted Lasso needs a focused narrative When Ted Lasso began, the show's primary focus was on the development of Ted, Rebecca, Nate, Keeley, Roy, and Jamie. As the series progressed, it focused on many more supporting characters in AFC Richmond and gave them more prominent roles in the story. With its third season, Ted Lasso explored too many characters and plotlines separate from the main arc. Consequently, the show veered off in many directions. Some episodes showed very little of Ted Lasso. Recommended Videos That isn't to say that this approach hasn't worked in the past. The season 2 episode Beard After Hours dedicated roughly 40 minutes to Coach Beard, exploring his mysterious and surreal private life with a tone and style that fit the character and provided an interesting change of scenery. However, these kinds of tangent stories became more prevalent in the third season, to the point that Ted Lasso seemed to be presenting many different shows in one. Ted Lasso season 4 should go back to basics by focusing on Ted and the returning characters trying to connect with their new football team. While the show will focus on multiple characters and their arcs, it should ensure that these subplots don't stray too far from the main path. This could make the new season especially jarring for audiences accustomed to the characters and story from the show's first three seasons. The show must balance new and old characters Ted Lasso season 3 presented multiple arcs for the characters at AFC Richmond and their loved ones. This approach fleshed out a lot of the show's world and helped bring some closure for everyone by the time the season ended. Nevertheless, the way season 3 tried to resolve every storyline within the time it had, particularly in the finale, felt rushed and unearned. In addition to not juggling too many storylines at once, Ted Lasso needs to make sure its characters develop at a natural pace. Storylines should not be forced. Since season 3 was meant to wrap up the characters' journeys together, their actions in season 4 shouldn't be made just for the sake of continuing the series. Nevertheless, the way this season tried to resolve all these storylines with the time it had, particularly in the finale, came across as rushed and unearned. In addition to not juggling too many storylines at once, Ted Lasso needs to make sure its characters develop at a natural pace. Their storylines also shouldn't be forced upon them with this series renewal. Since season 3 was meant to wrap up the characters' journeys together, their actions in season 4 shouldn't be made just for the sake of continuing the series. The show must maintain its sense of hope and optimism When it first aired in 2020, Ted Lasso shared a heartwarming message about the importance of love, faith, friendship, and self-care. This made it a beloved, much-needed show after COVID brought so much death, isolation, and hardship. Though the show's later seasons got more intense with how it explored mental illness, trauma, and parental abuse, the characters became more engaging and relatable. Given how depressing the modern world still is since the end of season 3, it seems more crucial than ever for Ted Lasso to come back with more uplifting stories to inspire audiences and help them believe in themselves and the show. Season 4 Of 'Ted Lasso' Is Officially In Production — And We Have A First Look
The hit Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso has been 'exhumed,' as star Hannah Waddingham put it. The Apple TV+ juggernaut, which was once believed to end after season 3, is officially making its return. Here's everything we know about Ted Lasso's next season. Yes! In March 2025, it was announced that Ted Lasso would return for a fourth season. In a statement about the renewal, per Variety, Sudeikis said: 'As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to 'look before we leap,' in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it's exactly where they're meant to be.' Here's the official logline from Apple: Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would. Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, and Brendan Hunt are all confirmed to return. When asked about returning for a fourth season of Ted Lasso, Waddingham said, 'It feels like it was the most beautiful, beloved dog that was buried, and now we've exhumed it, and I am here for it. I was hankering and hankering and hankering and hankering to see where Rebecca had gone, where she was going to. She's my girl. She's in my bloodstream, so I'm thrilled that it's been exhumed.' She continued, 'I can't wait to get involved with that and put my penneth in and go shopping for her looks.' Season 4 will also have a few new additions: Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), Jude Mack (Such Brave Girls), Faye Marsay (Adolescence), Aisling Sharkey (Jurassic World Dominion), Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane), and newcomer, Rex Hayes. Their roles have not yet been announced. Grant Feely will also join the cast and step in as Ted's son, Henry, a role previously played by Gus Turner. Yes! On July 21, Apple TV+ announced that production was underway. Principal photography began today in Kansas City, and additional filming will take place in London. Hannah Waddingham Compares 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 to a ‘Beloved Dog That Was Buried'
While fans of the hit show Ted Lasso still have a while before the show's return for Season 4, the comments from the cast alone are reason for excitement. That's at least partially because the show's stars always seem overjoyed to discuss the upcoming season and the fact that Ted Lasso hasn't bid its fans farewell just yet. While plenty of familiar faces are set to return for the fourth season of the beloved Apple TV+ series, there'll also be several new additions in the mix. Of those names returning, AFC Richmond owner Hannah Waddingham, aka Rebecca Welton, is more than willing to express her excitement about what lies ahead in Season 4. During an interview with Variety at the Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles, Waddingham spoke about the return of Ted Lasso and offered one of the most unique analogies imaginable. "It feels like it was the most beautiful, beloved dog that was buried, and now we've exhumed it, and I am here for it," Waddingham said. "I was hankering and hankering and hankering and hankering to see where Rebecca had gone, where she was going to. She's my girl. She's in my bloodstream, so I'm thrilled that it's been exhumed." It's an incredible analogy to come up with on the spot, but it's also a bit spot on. The future of Ted Lasso seemed uncertain after Season 3, but with the announcement of its return, Season 4 promises to be beautiful and beloved. Along with Waddingham, we know Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis, will be back, along with fellow assistant coaches Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt. Many others have hinted at their potential return, but have kept details under wraps while avoiding giving too much away about Season Waddingham Compares 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 to a 'Beloved Dog That Was Buried' first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 14, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword
