Anne Hathaway to play Taylor Swift-inspired popstar in upcoming film
Anne Hathaway will reportedly be part of a "lesbian power couple" with Michaela Coel in new film Mother Mary directed by David Lowery. Anne Hathaway is set to take on the role of a pop star with a likeness to both Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. However, she is tipped to have a concealed dark side in the upcoming film, Mother Mary. The new movie will feature Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway alongside Michaela Coel, who is rumoured to be playing her partner in a "lesbian power couple". Coel has previously been acclaimed for portraying Arabella Essiedu in BBC 's I May Destroy You. Coel steps into the role of a fashion designer and a long-standing pal of Hathaway's character, pivotal to her public image. Mother Mary promises an original narrative interwoven with musical elements, according to reports in the Mirror. Featuring a soundtrack that includes contributions from Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff, the film is complemented with singing and dancing. The project is under the direction of David Lowery, known for his work on A Ghost Story (2017), The Green Knight (2021), and Pete's Dragon (2016). Discussing the demanding role and its intricate choreography in a Vogue interview, Anne Hathaway shared: "I had to submit to being a beginner. The humility of that, showing up every day knowing you're going to suck, and it has to be okay. "You're not 'bad, you're just a beginner. Getting to that mindset - I had to shed some things that were hard to shed. It was welcome. But it was hard, the way transformational experiences can be hard. "My body was so locked up, I literally couldn't take a deep breath. I'd been trying to open that space for years and I thought it was physically impossible. All my breath, it was stuck." Coel has also shared insights into her deep dive into character preparation, revealing she attended techno clubs in Cologne, Germany during the shoot and even brought co-star Hathaway along for the experience. She praised the script as "vivid" and spoke of how the cast were "forced into an intensity" throughout the production. Lowery recounted a particularly intense moment on set: "It felt like shooting Apocalypse Now. At one point Annie [Hathaway] broke down and said, 'I have to apologise, because I think what's going to come out of me will hurt you,' and Michaela [Coel] took her hands and said, 'I love you, I trust you.'". Mother Mary is described by Deadline as an "epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer". Other sources suggest Hathaway and Coel will portray a "lesbian power couple battling fame". The film boasts a stellar supporting cast including Jessica Brown Findlay, Sian Clifford, Alba Baptista, FKA twigs, Kaia Gerber, and Hunter Schafer. While the release date remains under wraps, it has been tipped for a 2026 debut.

Tilda Swinton to Star in David Lowery's ‘Death in Her Hands' From See-Saw Films
David Lowery has a new film in the works with Tilda Swinton set to star. 'Death in Her Hands' — described as an 'anarchic whodunnit' and 'an otherworldly psychological thriller' — is adapted by Lowery ('A Ghost Story,' 'The Green Knight') from the cult novel by Ottessa Moshfegh ('My Year of Rest and Relaxation'). Unmoored by the death of her husband and armed only with a camera, her dog Charlie, and her vivid imagination, Gul becomes obsessed with uncovering Magda's identity and fate. Cross City Films, See-Saw's in-house sales arm, are teaming up with WME Independent to secure financing at Cannes. ‘The Hunger Games' Stage Adaptation Sets Fall Premiere in London
'The Hunger Games' is heading to the London stage. A new adaptation of Suzanne Collins' landmark young adult fantasy series will debut this October at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, a theater-in-the-round space custom-built for an immersive take on the author's blockbuster 2008 novel. The adaptation of the acclaimed book and Lionsgate motion picture starring Jennifer Lawrence will begin performances on Oct. 20. Conor McPherson, heralded by the New York Times as the 'finest' playwright of his generation, adapted 'The Hunger Games' in this stage show. Matthew Dunster ('A Ghost Story,' 'The Pillowman') is attached to direct. 'I'm thrilled that 'The Hunger Games' is in the hands of gifted playwright Conor McPherson and accomplished director Matthew Dunster,' creator and author Collins said. 'Connor has done a fantastic adaptation, which is quite unique from the screenplay. And Matthew's immersive, dynamic staging gives the audience a brand-new way to experience the story.' McPherson shared that he had a special connection to the project and reflected on the story's universal themes. 'As a dad to a teenager myself, it's especially gratifying working on a story whose values of resilience and moral courage speak to young people in these uncertain times.' Both McPherson and Dunster promised the new adaptation would be as 'thrilling' and 'passionate' as the book and film were while also adding new elements that make it unique to the live theater experience. 'The Hunger Games' franchise currently encompasses four critically acclaimed novels that have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 52 languages. The blockbuster films' first installment premiered back in 2012 and together have grossed more than $3.4 billion at the box office. Collins' newest 'Hunger Games' novel, 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' will hit shelves March 18. The book is already being adapted into a major motion picture by Lionsgate and is slated to release on Nov. 20, 2026. Joining McPherson and Dunster on the creative team are Miriam Buether, Moi Tran, Charlotte Broom, Lucy Carter, Ian Dickinson, Tal Rosner, Chris Fisher, Kev McCurdy, Suspended Illusions, James Maloney, Amy Ball CDG, James Robert Moore, Robyn Grant, Luke Smith and Lloyd Thomas. 'The Hunger Games: On Stage' is produced by Oliver Royds, Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment, Isobel David and Umeda Arts Theater, by arrangement with Lionsgate.
