Best Picks Acting Editor shares her Euro summer essentials: July, RayBan, Hommey and more

I'm heading home this weekend for a much needed Euro summer break to spend time in the sun with friends and family. While I always try my best to pack light, it's been two years since my last return so I've given myself plenty of room for gifts (plus a few additional outfit options). There's a few familiar faces going into my case this time around, like my ride or die sandals, Uniqlo AIRism tees and Ena Pelly denim shorts. But I've also treated myself to some new summer essentials; think trendy sunglasses, comfy pjs and a sleek one piece to replace my old swimmers that have seen better days. Other new additions joining me on my travels are these handy Tile trackers. They work using Bluetooth to track and map out exactly where they are, so I'll be popping one inside my checked luggage to follow it en route. Despite being a seasoned traveller, I chop and change the essentials I'm hauling overseas. This time around, there are 7 items that have made the cut — and I've popped them below. 1. Light Max Expandable Case, was $335 now $201 at American Tourister While I'm a big advocate for carry-on luggage, an international trip requires a larger case for all kinds of big and bulky items that I'm hauling back to the UK. My old case was due for an upgrade and American Tourister had been on my radar for a long time, and the Light Max Expandable 82cm ticks all the boxes. Large in size but incredibly lightweight (it weighs only 4kg) the fact it expands for extra room is a game-changer. 2. Alyssia Top and Pant set, from $132 at Sabo Did someone say Wimbledon whites? While there's no dress code that says you have to wear the colour, it's a fun tradition that lots of attendees share. Sabo's Alyssia two piece is the perfect solution to dressing for a day at the courts, I'll be adding a pair of comfy sandals and opting for an oversized denim jacket to chuck over the top. 3. Fairway Green Classic Umbrella, $159 at Blunt Umbrellas It's no secret that rain often makes an appearance during the British summertime, so I've made sure my Blunt umbrella is really to be packed inside my case. Instead of the trusty black version I also own, it felt only fitting that the Fairway Green joins me on my travels as I head to Wimbledon since it matches the brief perfectly! 4. Ray-Ban Zena Bio-Based, $207 at Sunglass Hut Every vacation needs a great pair of sunnies, and I had been eyeing up this pair of Ray-Bans for a while. Instead of jet-black, I've noticed that lighter colours better suit my complexion, especially brown colours and tortoise shell print s in slightly slimmer frames. Retailing for $207 over at Sunglass Hu t, I think they are a total steal for such a renowned eyewear brand. 5. Juliette Soft Work Tote, $325 at July My July carry-on case has been my trusty companion for a few years now, but I've been after a smaller bag to safely carry my laptop and other items I like to keep close. Everyone has been talking about the new Juliette tote — and for good reason. Made from a soft buttery PU coated fabri c, it feels luxe and expensive, and has a handy removable drink bottle holder, secure zipper and pass-through band so I can easily slide over luggage handles onto both carry-on and checked-in cases. 6. Capri Sleep Top and Short, from $59 at Hommey Perhaps not the usual packing essential, but I recently treated my PJ drawer to a new set from Aussie brand Hommey and they are heading overseas with me. The extra soft and stretchy cotton jersey fabric is perfect for lounging and sleeping, and the 'Capri' blue stripe print is perfect for a Euro summer. 7. Zarla One Shoulder One Piece, $240 at JETS Seafolly's sister brand, JETS has become my go-to for well-fitting swimwear. From bikinis to one pieces, the styles provide great support for bigger busts and curves. The latest arrival that caught my eye is the Zarla one piece, with a sleek one shoulder and subtle waist cinch. While it's a gorgeous print for Euro summer, I know it'll be on high rotation once summer rolls back around in Sydney.

Built-in bra tops are summer's must-have and we've tried high street buys

Supportive, stylish and secretly structured, we've found the very best built-in bra tops on the high street, and tried out best-selling styles from Uniqlo and Primark When the sun's out and the layers come off, the last thing anyone wants to deal with is an uncomfortable bra or exposed straps, which is exactly why built-in bra tops are having a major moment this summer. Whether you're after easy everyday comfort or subtle support that doesn't ruin the look of your outfit, these clever tops are the ultimate warm-weather staple. Uniqlo was one of the first high street brands to launch these handy tops all the way back in 2008, but it was a couple of years ago that they really started to go viral. And ever since, more and more brands are offering the practical design feature. From Uniqlo's cult-favourite Airism shelf bras to surprisingly supportive finds at Primark and Bravissimo, the high street is full of options. UNIQLO Since launching, Uniqlo's collection of bra tops has expanded so much, even into dresses. From camis to halternecks and of course, the viral AIRism tops, there are so many options to choose from. I tested out a few last week, and found my winners in the Open Back Halter Neck Bra Top, priced at £19.90 and the AIRism Sleeveless Bra Top, priced at £19.90. I especially love that the halter neck top has a lower back, which usually would restrict bra use, but instead supports the chest while allowing your back to be on also have built-in bra dresses to choose from, which is a real game-changer. From cute AIRism tennis dresses to flattering striped maxis, these picks are the perfect summer wardrobe addition. PRIMARK Primark's built-in bra tops have been cropping up a lot on Instagram and TikTok, and are easily the most affordable option available. There aren't as many styles or colours available as there are with Uniqlo's ones, however, for the price they are a great basic to have in your summer wardrobe. The Built-in Bra Cami Top is priced at £8 and comes in four different colourways, including a trendy powder blue and a ditsy floral print. Again, if you wanted to wear a bra with such a thinly strapped camisole like this one, you would just have to accept your bra straps showing through. However, with the built-in bra, you can get actual support while wearing the clothes that you want to. Shop in your local Primark BRAVISSIMO If you've got a fuller chest, Bravissimo is the place to shop for supportive bras, bikini's and bra-tops. Designed specifically to help bigger busts, their bra tops have a built-in wired and padded bra, complete with a hidden hook-and-eye fastening for extra support. And they've been specially designed to keep you feeling secure and comfortable, as well as being made from high quality and super-soft fabric that feels great against the skin SHOP BRA TOPS: Bandeau Vest Top With Built-In Bra, priced at £49, and Non Padded Strappy Top With Built-In Bra, priced at £46. SKIMS Ok, so not necessarily a high street brand (although they have just announced a physical Skims store is coming to the UK), but talking about underwear and shapewear without including Skims is pretty hard. And their bra tops have shopper reviews to back them of their tops don't explicitly have 'built-in bra' in the name like some other brands, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Many of their styles, including their tube tops, feature a built-in shelf bra, so you can still wear traditionally unsupportive styles such as camis and bandeaus without worrying about what to wear underneath.

Brace Yourself: Tokyo Hits 30 Degrees for the First Time in 2025

Foreshadowing another long, scorching summer, temperatures reached 30 degrees Celsius in central Tokyo for the first time this year on Tuesday. Officials are urging caution against heatstroke, advising air conditioner use and frequent water intake as our bodies aren't yet accustomed to the heat. In some landlocked areas, such as Yamanashi Prefecture's Otsuki city, the temperature surpassed 34 degrees Celsius. As we head into summer early this year in Japan, here are a few tips on how to survive and enjoy the season. List of Contents: 1. Stay Hydrated Constantly 2. Clothing and Accessories 3. Seek Shade and Air-Conditioned Spaces 4. Check Out Japanese Cooling Gadgets 5. Understanding Heatstroke Related Posts 1. Stay Hydrated Constantly Drink plenty of fluids: Don't wait until you're thirsty. Water, mugicha (barley tea, often served cold and caffeine-free), Pocari Sweat, Aquarius and other electrolyte-rich sports drinks are great options. Consider cooling foods: Enjoy seasonal dishes like kakigori (shaved ice), hiyashi chuka (chilled ramen), somen (thin cold noodles) and unagi (grilled eel, believed to boost stamina). 2. Clothing and Accessories Choose light, breathable fabrics: Opt for cotton, linen or advanced moisture-wicking materials such as Uniqlo's AIRism. Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing: These items reflect sunlight and allow air circulation. Carry a small towel or handkerchief: Either can be used to wipe away sweat. 3. Seek Shade and Air-Conditioned Spaces Get a UV-blocking parasol or hat: Many Japanese people use parasols for sun protection. Plan activities for cooler times: Schedule outdoor excursions for early mornings or evenings. Utilize indoor spaces: Japanese cities have many air-conditioned places, such as department stores, convenience stores, cafés, museums and even extensive underground malls where you can escape the midday heat. Use the Dry Mode feature on your air conditioner: It reduces humidity without drastically lowering the temperature. 4. Check Out Japanese Cooling Gadgets Portable fans: Handheld battery-operated or USB fans are incredibly popular and effective. Cooling towels and scarves: These stay cool when wet and can be draped around your neck. Cooling body wipes and sprays: These are available at drugstores and convenience stores. Cooling neck rings and gel packs: Targeting major blood vessels, these rings and packs will help you cool down. 5. Understanding Heatstroke Symptoms: Some of the main symptoms are fatigue, dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating and nausea. In severe cases, a high body temperature, seizures or loss of consciousness can occur. If you experience symptoms: Immediately move to a cool place with shade or go inside and make sure the air conditioner is on. Remove excess clothing, cool the body with water or ice and replenish fluids and salt. If symptoms are severe: call an ambulance (119 in Japan) immediately.
