Over 100 illegal arms seized in 18 months from across state

This points to an evolving arms supply chain that caters to both local gangs and organised criminal groups. Since 2023, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) seized more than 100 illegal weapons and recovered 2,115 cartridges from multiple districts. Police officials said many of these weapons were smuggled along a well-trodden corridor extending from Dholpur, near the Uttar Pradesh border, to Pratapgarh, which shares boundaries with Madhya Pradesh. "The gangsters and suppliers work as a closely knit community; they procure weapons both from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh," said an official. Since June, notable recoveries include an AK-56 rifle seized from criminal Rajveer Singh and an AK-46 recovered from a suspect in Dholpur. In Churu, gangster Jitendra Singh alias Jeetu Jodi was caught with an AK-47 and two magazines. This operation also led to the arrest of Ramashankar, a key illegal arms dealer in Uttar Pradesh. Police later arrested a UP-based gun shop owner who allegedly supplied ammunition to the network. Officials said that in several narcotics-related raids, weapons were also recovered, indicating that drug cartels are sourcing firearms alongside their trade. "In many such cases, weapons were seized alongside drugs," said an AGTF officer. According to sources, the seizure in Pratapgarh was one of the largest in recent years, with over 1,800 rounds of ammunition recovered, further exposing the supply networks that support criminal operations across the region. AGTF officials said that after they arrested the gun shop owner from Uttar Pradesh, they also began to keep an eye on similar businessmen in Rajasthan. ISIS India Head Saquib Nachan Dies In Hospital After Brain Haemorrhage
New Delhi: Saquib Nachan, head of the so-called Islamic State's (ISIS) India operations and former office-bearer of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital Saturday afternoon after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He was 57. Nachan had been in judicial custody at Tihar Jail since 2023 following his arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with an alleged ISIS terror module spanning Delhi and Maharashtra's Padgha region. He was hospitalised on Tuesday after his health deteriorated in custody. Doctors confirmed a brain haemorrhage shortly after admission. He remained under medical observation for four days before his condition worsened this morning. He was pronounced dead at 12:10 pm, according to hospital officials. Saquib Abdul Hameed Nachan belonged to Padgha town in Maharashtra's Thane district. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he rose as a senior figure in SIMI, an organisation banned in 2001 for anti-national activities. Nachan's name came under national spotlight during investigations into a series of bombings across Mumbai in 2002 and 2003, including the blasts at Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund station. These attacks left at least 13 people dead and injured over a hundred. He was eventually convicted in these cases under charges of illegal arms possession, including an AK-56 rifle. A special court operating under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) sentenced him to 10 years in prison. He completed his term in 2017, receiving remission of over five months for good behaviour. In 2023, he was again arrested, this time by the NIA, as part of a crackdown on ISIS terrorists and supporters across India. Two ‘hybrid terrorists' held in J&K's Shopian
Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) 'hybrid terrorists' in Shopian and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession, including two AK 56 rifles. Police identified the arrested as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam, both residents of Shopian. Hybrid terrorists are not listed in any database of police or intelligence, unlike their traditional counterparts. A senior police officer said that in a major operational success, a search operation was launched at Baskuchan by SOG Shopian in coordination with 44 RR and 178 Bn CRPF following specific input. 'The area was effectively cordoned and movement of terrorists was observed in a nearby orchard. Swift and strategic action by the forces led to the successful apprehension of two LeT hybrid terrorists—Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam.' The officer said two AK-56 rifles, four magazines, 102 rounds, two hand grenade, two pouches, ₹5,400 in cash, one mobile phone, one smart watch, two biscuit packets were recovered from them. 'A case has been registered under relevant sections, and investigation is underway,' the official added.

Multiple locations across Kashmir linked to cross-border terror network raided
The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday carried out extensive searches at various locations across the valley, including Shopian, Kulgam, Budgam, Awantipora Pulwama, Kupwara and Srinagar. This comes amid intensified anti-terror operations across J&K following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were to officials, the raids are linked to a terror crime case currently under investigation by the CIK. During the probe, investigators identified multiple suspects allegedly using a specific encrypted messaging application reportedly used by terrorists and their handlers operating from across the border. These individuals are suspected to have maintained contact with suspicious cross-border entities. advertisementThe searches come amid a sustained crackdown on terrorist elements in the region following the dastardly Baisaran Valley attack. Security agencies have been stepping up operations across South Kashmir in particular. In one such operation earlier this month, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists - identified as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam - were arrested in Shopian during a joint operation by the Army, J&K Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The two surrendered during the encounter, averting a potential encounter. Two AK-56 rifles, four magazines, two hand grenades and other ammunition were recovered from their two weeks back, three LeT terrorists were killed in the Zinpather Keller area of Shopian during an encounter with security forces. The Army launched "Operation Keller" based on specific intelligence inputs provided by the Rashtriya Rifles. Among the slain terrorists were Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi, both residents of to that, three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were killed in the Nadar area of Tral in Pulwama. The operation, which made headlines due to drone footage capturing the terrorists hiding, resulted in the deaths of Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani and Yawar Ahmad Bhat - all residents of Pulwama searches by the CIK are ongoing, and more details are expected to come as the anti-terror operations continue in Jammu and Watch
