Health Dept utilises drones in anti-mosquito operation

Parvathipuram: The Parvathipuram Manyam district has taken a significant step in malaria control using advanced technology. District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr S Bhaskar Rao said that. for the first time, drone-assisted anti-mosquito spraying was carried out in the remote tribal village of Gowduguda on Tuesday as part of the Anti-Larval Operation (ALO). The initiative was supervised by the DMHO along with programme officers. Large stagnant water bodies in and around the village were targeted during the spraying operation. A mixture of mosquito larvicide (Temephos) was loaded into drones and sprayed effectively over the breeding grounds to eliminate mosquito larvae. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhaskar Rao highlighted that drone technology enables large-scale mosquito control measures in a shorter time. He stated that this initiative was undertaken in response to earlier instructions from the District Collector. He further explained that while drone spraying would be taken up at larger mosquito breeding sites, traditional ALO and dry day methods will continue for smaller water accumulations. Dr. Bhaskar Rao also interacted with local villagers to collect health-related information and instructed medical staff to ensure the availability of fever diagnostic tests and medicines in the region. He later inspected the tribal welfare residential school in Tikkabai, reviewing students' health status and the condition of the hostel. He checked whether spraying had been properly carried out in the rooms and instructed staff to maintain an accurate Sick Register for students. District Malaria Officer Y Mani, Dr T Jaganmohan Rao, DLATO Dr Vinod, Medical Officer Dr Abhilash, Malaria Consultant Ramachandra and other medical staff have attended the programme.

GHMC rolls out measures to swat mosquito menace in city

Hyderabad: In the wake of the rains, the GHMC took up extensive control measures to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. Anti-larva operations (ALO) and fogging were being done in colonies and also at lakes, nalas and Musi riverbanks. The GHMC Commissioner, RV Karnan has instructed officials to intensify anti-larva operations aimed at controlling mosquitoes. On Monday, the Commissioner conducted a conference call and discussed mosquito control, sanitation, and ongoing court cases with the Additional and Zonal Commissioners, as well as the Heads of Departments from the relevant department. During the meeting, the Commissioner stated that it is recognized that the staff engaged in entomology within the respective zones have been given alternative responsibilities rather than focusing on the ALO programme. Consequently, he instructed the Zonal and Deputy Commissioners to implement measures that will ensure the staff prioritize ALO programmes. Furthermore, RV Karnan instructed the Additional Commissioner of Lakes and Health to extend the special sanitation initiative in the city for additional days. Additionally, he has mandated that a focused effort be carried out in the other colonies within the ward. During this meeting, the Commissioner requested an update from the Additional Commissioner regarding the advancements of the special drive. On this occasion, AC Sanitation Raghu Prasad informed that the special sanitation drive for the pre-monsoon season has successfully concluded in 120 wards, running from June 3 to June 25. During this period, a total of 3,900 tons of construction and demolition waste and 5,400 tons of garbage have been cleared. The Commissioner instructed the AC to take action if the remaining colonies in each ward are permitted an additional 20 days starting from June 26. RV Karnan also instructed that the primary attention should be on the court cases and that the Zonal Commissioners must promptly respond to these cases. He emphasized the need for a nodal officer to be designated at the Zonal Commissioner level specifically for handling court cases, ensuring that replies are sent periodically. He recommended that the Deputy Commissioner should submit the response to the court with the endorsement of the relevant Zonal Commissioner at the time of sending. The Commissioner directed the officers to reach out to the AC Legal at the head office for any required support. Meanwhile, on Monday, to tackle the mosquitoes menace and improve sanitation in the area, the GHMC took up the anti-larva operation in Shah Hatim Lake in Golconda. For the operation, GHMC deployed floating machines to remove the water hyacinth, and mosquitoes larvicide oil are being sprayed using drones. Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin along with GHMC officers inspected the operations.

Beloved Northern California music festival plans a comeback with new leadership, stellar lineup

After a year marked by uncertainty and loss, the High Sierra Music Festival is set to return for its 33rd edition over the Fourth of July weekend, bringing its mix of music and a renewed sense of community to the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds. The festival's future was cast into doubt following the death of founder and talent buyer Roy Carter in May 2024, compounded by financial pressures brought on by the post-COVID live event economy. But co-producer and longtime organizer Dave Margulies stepped in as lead curator, aiming to both honor the event's legacy and chart a new path forward. 'Our goal has always been to turn people on to new music and create space for magic to happen — not just on the big stages, but in the small, serendipitous moments,' Margulies said in a statement. 'From legacy acts to newcomers, the lineup is built to surprise and delight.' Scheduled for July 3-6, this year's festival will continue to showcase the signature experiences that have made High Sierra a favorite: multiple sets by featured artists, intimate sessions and spontaneous collaborations. Attendees can expect the usual eccentric touches — daily parades, late-night jam sessions, yoga classes and vendor villages — all set against the Sierra Nevada foothills. This year's bill features a diverse lineup of returning favorites and emerging talent, including Palo Alto native and bluegrass virtuoso Molly Tuttle, Bay Area jam-pop staples ALO, high-energy improvisational rockers Dogs in a Pile, genre-blending hip-hop pioneer Lyrics Born, and 17-year-old guitar prodigy Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge. Singer-songwriter Amy Helm plans to bring her Helm Midnight Family Ramble outside of Woodstock for the first time, and multiple members of the Trey Anastasio Band are expected to appear in a range of collaborative projects. 'High Sierra is a musical playground,' said artist-at-large Dan 'Lebo' Lebowitz. ' From intimate Troubadour Sessions to Playshops and full-stage sets, it's a convergence point where once-in-a-lifetime collaborations happen — and lifelong friendships begin.' New for 2025 are upgraded amenities, including the Lagniappe Lounge, a shaded indoor venue with lounge seating and cocktails, and The Happy Glamper, a premium, climate-controlled camping option. 'It's the most wonderful time of the year,' he said. 'People sparkling, singing, dancing, with hugs and parades and spontaneity. Just walking the grounds is an adventure. It feeds my soul.'

Kylie heartbreakingly continued: 'I miss you so much. Why aren't you here. every first without you hurts sm,' and concluded by tagging his Instagram. The post comes more than three weeks after Gris shed light on her brother's medical history in the year leading up to his death. 'He was diagnosed with gastritis months back, but it was never anything to get that bad. So we don't know if that was a part of it,' she told Us Weekly. Gastritis, an inflammation of the stomach lining, can be the result of severe stress, medications, alcohol, diet, smoking, other illnesses, or even the knock-on effects of burns or major operations, among many potential factors. Symptoms can include nausea and vomiting, pain or a burning feeling in the stomach, abdominal bleeding or appetite loss, according to Johns Hopkins. Gris shared that it 'seems to be the case' that her brother lost 20lbs leading up to his death, based on the 'paperwork' she has been able to read. 'We think it could have been something with his stomach,' she said, noting that his family knew 'that he couldn't eat without it being painful' in his final days. Guerrero was buried in his native Houston, Texas on Sunday over a month after his death, with both Jenner and Lopez in attendance, TMZ reports. Gris had previously confirmed in a GoFundMe update on February 25 that the 27-year-old Kylie Cosmetics founder offered to cover his 'funeral expenses and offering up all her help and support.' 'She has told us anything we need. Jesus was family to her, and she was family to him,' Gris told Us Weekly the same day. 'She has kept an open line. Anything we need, any questions we have, she has been there for us. She wants his memory to be honored and wants to do as much as she can so he gets the farewell he deserves.' As for the $96K the family raised from an $80K goal, Guerrero said the GoFundMe money 'will go toward the costs associated with securing his belongings home as well as other unexpected expenses to settle his assets.' Kylie called Jesus 'a true artist' whom she 'loved so much' in her tribute, gushing: 'Jesus was more than my friend - he was a light in my life, a source of laughter, comfort, love, and unwavering support. I don't know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side. He had a way of making even the heaviest days feel lighter.'
