Double engine Sarkar autocratic, says Sharmila
Rajamahendravaram: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila strongly criticised the BJP-led government, stating that only Congress party truly understands people's problems and works for their genuine welfare. She participated in East Godavari district Congress extended meeting held in Rajamahendravaram on Friday. Sharmila alleged that both the Centre and the State are currently under autocratic and regressive rule. She appealed to the public to support Congress party and bring back good governance, which she described as a historic necessity. Senior Congress leader and CWC special invitee Gidugu Rudra Raju also addressed the gathering. Referring to the Emergency period, he condemned the BJP and RSS for spreading relentless misinformation about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, constitutional institutions are being undermined and misused for political gain, which he said is far worse than anything and equal to a dictatorship. He added that while Indira Gandhi made significant contributions to national security and poverty alleviation, today's political forces are shamefully attempting to tarnish her legacy with false propaganda. Rudra Raju asserted that India witnessed real development and genuine welfare during Congress rule. The meeting was chaired by East Godavari District Congress President TK Visweswara Reddy. APCC in-charge Palak Verma also attended the event. Following the meeting, Sharmila, Rudra Raju, Vishweshwara Reddy, and others paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar's statue at Gokavaram Bus Stand. Later, Sharmila unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi near the water tank at Rajiv Gandhi Park in Seethampeta and paid homage by garlanding the statues of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

He emphasised that bolstering the grassroots organisational structure was crucial in the past 30 days, receiving active support from party workers. The Congress aims to establish a strong presence across all 126 assembly constituencies. "No candidate can win — or make others win — without a strong organisational structure," he stated. Regarding electoral matters, he confirmed the party's commitment to ensuring accurate voter lists and conducting fair elections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Whether it's about a town, village, or district, Congress workers will raise the local issues of the public everywhere. Responding to BJP's criticism about the Emergency, Gaurav said people expressed their verdict by re-electing Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister after the Emergency. "The day Indira Gandhi became PM again after the Emergency, the people of India gave their opinion on her long back. But what's about the 'Emergency' created by BJP today? People cannot ask questions, they cannot even write Facebook posts (questioning BJP) or RTI applications," Gaurav alleged.

Sharmila, Manickam hit out at Former CM Jagan for YSRCP worker run over by car in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: APCC chief YS Sharmila Reddy and Congress leader Manickam Tagore fiercely criticised YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for the tragic death of YSRCP worker Cheeli Singaiah (70). The incident occurred near Etukuru village in Sattenapalli mandal on June 18, when Singaiah, attempting to offer flowers to Jagan, was fatally run over by a vehicle in the former CM's convoy. Sharmila, in a strongly worded statement, called the incident 'horrific' and condemned Jagan's 'irresponsible behaviour'. She highlighted that the vehicle, later confirmed by CCTV footage and social media videos to be Jagan's, continued moving despite Singaiah falling under its wheels. 'How could the convoy proceed without noticing a person underneath?' she questioned. Sharmila also slammed Jagan for standing on the vehicle's sideboard, waving to thousands, despite permission for only 100 attendees. 'Who gave you the right to endanger lives for a political spectacle?' she demanded, questioning the purpose of the visit — a statue unveiling for someone who died by suicide after a betting loss. She accused the TDP-led NDA government of negligence, alleging that police allowed a crowd far exceeding permitted limit, and failed to act. 'Why did police cooperate, and why was the intelligence system dormant?' she asked Manickam Tagore echoed Sharmila's views on X, stating, 'Human lives mean nothing to @YSJagan.' He described Singaiah's death as a result of 'arrogance and recklessness', labelling Jagan's actions as 'criminal negligence' for waving to supporters from the sideboard while disregarding safety.

Implement promises made in Reorganistion Act
Visakhapatnam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi should fulfill promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014, demanded Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief YS Sharmila. At a media conference organised here on Friday, she stressed that it has been over a decade since Narendra Modi government assured to implement provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, but they were yet to be implemented. Emphasising that the people of Andhra Pradesh feel neglected, Sharmila wondered how the Prime Minister could visit AP without any trace of reluctance. Despite cases filed against him, Sharmila criticised that it was very apparent that YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was walking scot-free. 'It is because Jagan is Modi's adopted son. The PM not only supports Jagan in Vivekananda Reddy's murder case but also in every other aspect,' the APCC chief alleged. Reiterating that it has been a decade since the Prime Minister assured to implement the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, Sharmila questioned, 'What happened to the Special Category Status (SCS) announced for AP in Tirupati.' Modi cheated on AP people without according the status to the State. Both Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan have been extending support to Modi despite the betrayal the AP people faced. 'The Prime Minister cheated on the Polavaram project too. He had killed the project by reducing the height of it. By cutting down the height of the project, it cannot be termed as Polavaram project but a barrage,' she expressed anger. Even in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant issue, the APCC chief stated that Modi cheated on it as well. Maintaining that the Centre is not focusing on privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant at the moment, the Modi government is weakening the plant by removing 4,000 workers from it, she said. 'What's the need of building a capital city mobilising loans. Also, there is no special package for North Andhra as promised earlier. With so many issues to look into, is it really required to celebrate Yogandhra now,' Sharmila asked. Terming Jagan's recent press meet statements as indecent, Sharmila expressed disgust over Jagan's provocative statements like 'Narukutam', 'Samputam' and 'Battalu Udadeestam.'

Andhra Pradesh Congress chief demands answers from PM Modi on fate of bifurcation promises
The APCC president noted that the people of Andhra Pradesh are anguished over unfulfilled bifurcation promises such as according special category status to the state and others. PM Modi is scheduled to arrive in Visakhapatnam today to participate in the 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday morning. Amaravati, June 20 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila on Friday demanded answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fate of promises made during Andhra Pradesh bifurcation, as he is poised to participate in the International Yoga Day in the state. 'Modi is coming and going from Visakhapatnam… but what happened to bifurcation promises? It has already been 10 years, and the special category status is a right from the bifurcation (of united Andhra Pradesh),' said Sharmila in a press release. Alleging that Modi cheated the state, she noted that the PM was not even responding to the issue of the special category status, and claimed that though 'Modi is deceiving', TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu and Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan are continuing to support him. According to Sharmila, Modi has also 'cheated' the state with respect to the height of Polavaram Project by lowering the dam's height from 45 m to 41 m. Likewise, she alleged that the state was deceived in the Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) issue also, asserting that it was promised that the industry would not be privatised but it is getting 'sold'. Claiming that there was no change in stance over VSP, Sharmila alleged that 4,000 workers were fired. Further, questioning the need to build a capital with 'debts', referring to greenfield capital city Amaravati, she asserted that Naidu and Kalyan are backing Modi even though he is 'backstabbing'. 'Is Yogandhra needed when there is no attention for people's problems,' she said. Moreover, she assailed YSRCP supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for allegedly making provocative statements. She claimed that Reddy has Modi's support, which is why all his 'actions are being condoned'. Meanwhile, there was immediate reaction from the TDP.
