Did Sanjay Manjrekar take a dig at Virat Kohli during Leeds Test? Fans think so
Sanjay Manjrekar and Virat Kohli (Getty/AP Photos) Sanjay Manjrekar praised KL Rahul's disciplined approach on Day 1 The former cricketer appeared to take a dig at Virat Kohli Kohli retired from Tests weeks before England tour Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar appeared to take a subtle swipe at Virat Kohli while on commentary duty during Day 1 of the first Test between England and India at Headingley, Leeds, on Friday, 20 June. As Manjrekar praised KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal's disciplined approach in the morning session, viewers were quick to pick up on what seemed like a veiled reference to Kohli's past struggles. England, having opted to bowl first, failed to maintain consistent lines and lengths in the opening exchanges. This allowed the Indian openers to settle in comfortably, leaving deliveries outside off-stump with composure and punishing the loose ones. Leeds Test Full Scorecard | Full Coverage As the partnership neared a century stand, Manjrekar lauded Rahul's restraint against full deliveries outside off-stump, contrasting itâ€'without naming namesâ€'with a "former batter" who would have chased them and gotten out. 'KL hasn't touched one ball full outside off. We know of a former batter who would have gone after that delivery and gotten himself into trouble,' Manjrekar said during commentary on JioHotstar. While Manjrekar didn't mention Kohli by name, many fans were quick to connect the dots. Kohli, who announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year, had well-documented issues with that line during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was dismissed caught behind or in the slips seven times in ten innings in that five-Test series. After a century in the opener in Perth, Kohli's form dipped drastically, with just 190 runs in the remaining matches. Scott Boland, in particular, exploited Kohli's vulnerability outside off-stump, leaving the former captain visibly frustrated in what turned out to be his final Test assignment. Kohli later played a Ranji Trophy fixture before calling time on his red-ball career weeks ahead of the England tour. Ironically, moments after Manjrekar's comment, Rahul fell to a similar temptationâ€'caught in the slips playing an expansive cover drive at a wide delivery after a composed knock. India lost two wickets at the stroke of lunch, with debutant Sai Sudharsan also dismissed for a duck, edging down the leg side. Despite the hiccup, India continued to build a strong foundation in the second session. Yashasvi Jaiswal, in particular, looked fluent once again against England, bringing up a solid half-century in a growing partnership with Shubman Gill. The visitors went past 150 at over four runs an over, putting pressure back on the English bowlers. Singer Chris Brown pleads not guilty in London assault case
Singer Chris Brown pleads not guilty in London assault case(AP Photos) Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge related to the serious beating of a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023. Brown, 36, pleaded not guilty in Southwark Crown Court to one count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. Brown's friend and fellow musician Omololu Akinlolu, 38, who performs under the name "Hoody Baby," pleaded not guilty to the same charge. Prosecutors said Brown and Akinlolu assaulted producer Abe Diaw at a bar in the Tape nightclub in the swanky Mayfair neighborhood in February 2023. Brown allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Diaw and hit him several times with a bottle and then punched and kicked him. The attack was caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people, prosecutors said. Brown was released last month on 5 million-pound ($6.75 million) bail, which allowed him to start his world tour earlier this month. Brown, who burst onto the music scene as a teen in 2005, won his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 for "F.A.M.E." and then earned his second in the same category for "11:11 (Deluxe)" earlier this year. His hits include songs such as "Run It," "Kiss Kiss" and "Without You." His tour is due to kick off June 8 in Amsterdam before starting North America shows in July.

Swiss village evacuated over threat of rockslide
Swiss village evacuated over threat of rockslide(AP Photos) Swiss authorities cleared a village in the country's east over a potential rockslide, three weeks after a mudslide submerged a vacated village in the southwest. Residents of Brienz/Brinzauls, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Davos, were being barred from entering the village because a rock mass on a plateau overhead has "accelerated so rapidly that it threatens to collapse," a statement from local officials said Monday. Farm work in the area was also being halted, and livestock owners moved their animals out of nearby pastures due to early warning signs on Sunday. Authorities said the region is closely monitored by early-warning systems in the town, which is no stranger to such evacuations: Villagers had been ordered out of Brienz/Brinzauls in November and in June two years ago - before a huge mass of rock tumbled down the mountain, narrowly missing the village. The mountain and the rocks on it have been moving since the last Ice Age. While glacier melt has affected the precariousness of the rocks over millennia, local authorities say melting glaciers due to "man-made" climate change in recent decades hasn't been a factor. The centuries-old village straddles German- and Romansch-speaking parts of the eastern Graubunden region and sits at an altitude of about 1,150 meters (about 3,800 feet). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's The Average Price of a 6-Hour Gutter Guards Upgrade Read More Undo Today, it has under 100 residents. Leading Swiss insurers issued Tuesday a preliminary estimate of damages related to the submerging of the southwestern village of Blatten on May 28, putting the figure at some 320 million Swiss francs (about $393 million) - more than 80% of which was attributed to damages to buildings and movable property. The rest - about 60 million francs (about $73.8 million) - involved damage to businesses and motor vehicles.
