AIAA Welcomes ISS National Laboratory to 2025 ASCEND
Additional Sessions Will Showcase the Growing Low Earth Orbit Ecosystem ASCEND RESTON, Va., June 23, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space® (CASIS), manager of the International Space Station (ISS) National Laboratory, announced they are expanding programming for the upcoming ASCEND event this summer, 22–24 July, in Las Vegas. This announcement comes following the discontinuation of the ISS National Laboratory's flagship event, the ISS Research and Development Conference (ISSRDC), originally planned for 28–31 July, Seattle, Wash. ISSRDC was designed to address pressing research and development challenges through space-based inquiry. ASCEND will now serve the broader space and microgravity community in one powerful event. The new content will highlight how the space station continues to provide a valuable platform for research and technology development that benefits humanity and enables a robust and sustainable market in low Earth orbit (LEO). Judge rules in favor of Lee's Summit in case against county over 2023 assessments
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A judge ruled in favor of the City of Lee's Summit in its lawsuit against Jackson County over the 2023 assessments and ordered the city to recover more than $250,000 in damages. Judge Derek Spencer, who was brought in from Cass County, specifically sided with the city on two counts: breach of contract and breach of the duty of good faith and fair dealing. Jackson County likely to comply with latest order on assessments The judgment comes nearly two months after a bench trial was held in Jackson County Circuit Court. The lawsuit was first filed in 2023. The court's order, filed Wednesday, stated that the county broke contract by 'failing to provide necessary records of the tax rolls to the city.' It said that this ultimately prevented the city from collecting taxes and 'thereby prevented the city from receiving the benefit of the bargain': 1% of all taxes collected by the city pursuant to the contract the county and city have had since 2007. It said it breached this contract on April 2, 2024, by excluding the city from the county's ASCEND system and the tax collection process. On all other counts, the judge ruled in favor of the county, but added: 'Mandamus and declaratory judgment relief are not appropriate relief as many of the issues related to the 2023 assessments relate to the discretion exercised by Ms. McCann Beatty and Mr. Frank White Jr., and certain rights the City request the Court enforce are not clear rights expressed in statutes enacted by the Legislature.' FDA Okays DHE Nasal Spray for Acute Migraine
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved dihydroergotamine (DHE) nasal powder (Atzumi, Satsuma Pharmaceuticals Inc) for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults Atzumi (previously STS101) is the 'first and only' product utilizing the Simple MucoAdhesive Release Technology (SMART) platform, which combines a proprietary advanced powder and device technology to simplify delivery of DHE, the company said in a news release announcing approval. "DHE plays a unique clinical role in the acute treatment of migraine, providing patients long lasting effects and the unique ability to provide benefit even when taken late in a migraine attack,' Stewart J. Tepper, MD, vice president, New England Institute for Neurology and Headache, Stamford, Connecticut, said in the release. 'The convenience of Atzumi, the only DHE nasal powder, will offer patients ease of use combined with the important known DHE clinical advantages," Tepper added. The FDA approved Atzumi based on two clinical studies — the phase 1 pharmacokinetics trial and the phase 3 ASCEND open-label, long-term safety trial, which Tepper led. The ASCEND study enrolled adults with a ≥ 1 year history of migraine with or without aura and 4-12 migraine attacks per month and < 15 headache days per month in each of the 3 months prior to screening. The study demonstrated fast absorption, rapid achievement of high DHE plasma concentrations, and sustained DHE plasma levels over time as well as safety and tolerability in subjects with migraine. Treatment with DHE nasal powder was associated with rapid onset of freedom from pain (37%, 67%, and 86% of treated attacks 2, 4, and 24 hours after dosing, respectively), freedom from most bothersome symptoms (54%, 80%, and 91%), and headache relief (67%, 89%, and 94%). Atzumi is not indicated for the preventive treatment of migraine or for the management of hemiplegic migraine, or migraine with brainstem aura. Complete prescribing information is available online.
