Indonesia's Foreign Minister To Attend ASEAN Meetings In KL
Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono is set to attend the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related key sessions in Kuala Lumpur next week, scheduled from July 8 to 11.
According to Siddharto Suryodhipuro, Director-General for ASEAN Cooperation at Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono will participate in a series of meetings, including regional dialogues and bilateral engagements with ASEAN's key partners.
'AMM is an important platform for Southeast Asia to discuss regional and global developments. Given the current international political dynamics, ministers are expected to deliberate on a wide range of issues, both directly impacting the region and those with broader global implications,' Siddharto said during a media briefing on Thursday.
Sugiono will also co-chair the ASEAN-Australia Meeting alongside his Australian counterpart, in line with Indonesia's current role as ASEAN's coordinator for relations with Australia.
Malaysia is chairing ASEAN for 2025, marking its fifth time leading the regional bloc after holding the post in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.
ASEAN comprises 10 member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Sugiono is also expected to attend the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD), which will also be hosted by Malaysia.
'His active participation reflects Indonesia's sustained commitment to ASEAN and its efforts in promoting a peaceful, stable and prosperous Southeast Asia in line with national interests,' Siddharto added.
