Sharda University Student Suicide: Victim's Father Alleges Mental Pressure By Faculty Members

A second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida died by suicide, alleging harassment and humiliation by faculty members. The father of a second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida, who died by suicide on Monday, said she was under intense psychological stress due to the way certain faculty members treated her. The body of the student was found in the hostel room of the university, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Knowledge Park Police Station. The deceased student accused her teachers of harassment and humiliation in a suicide note. Following the incident, tensions escalated on campus as students staged protests, demanding accountability from the college authorities. A heated exchange also broke out between police personnel and protesting students. Seven people, including six university staff, have been booked in the case, and two faculty members named in the suicide note have been arrested. What Did The FIR Say? The student had complained to her father about being repeatedly humiliated in class by faculty members and threatened with academic consequences, according to the FIR seen by the Hindustan Times. The family told police that the student's father visited the university on July 14 after her daughter's complaint, and personally met the Dean, HOD and other faculty members, who assured him that she would not be harassed further. 'My daughter was under immense mental pressure because of how she was treated by certain faculty members. Despite my meeting with the university officials just days before, no action was taken. They gave verbal assurances but continued to harass her," the victim's father said. The student was reportedly told that her work would not be approved and she would be barred from exams. The next day, she took the extreme step. Her father said she was 'tortured" and evidence regarding her death was also 'destroyed". The university has not issued any official statement in connection with the case yet. The incident comes days after a college student in Odisha's Balasore district died after setting herself on fire, allegedly over harassment by a teacher. Jaipur: A 20-year-old student preparing for the National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET) to get admission to any undergraduate medical course died by suicide on Saturday night in Rajasthan's Sikar, said officials. This takes the toll of such cases to 18 this year across the state- 16 of them in Kota and one each in Sikar and Jodhpur. NEET student dies by suicide in Sikar; 18th this year in Rajasthan According to police, the victim, a native of Rajasthan's Balotra, took admission to a reputed coaching centre in Sikar only three days ago. 'He had been staying in a hostel in the district's Udhyog Nagar area. On Saturday, he died by suicide in his room,' said the sub inspector (SI) of Udhyog Nagar police station, Rohitansh Kumar. 'His friends knocked on the door late at night. When he did not respond, the hostel authority broke open the door and found him dead,' the SI added. 'Prima facie, he went to the coaching centre only on Friday. No suicide note was recovered. The body was sent for an autopsy. His family was also informed. Further probe is underway,' he said. Kumar also said that officials are probing why an anti-hanging device was not installed in the room. Amid a surge in suicide cases in Kota and Sikar, where students from all over the country arrive in huge numbers after completing Class 10 to prepare for various competitive exams — including JEE and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG for admission to medical courses —, the state government in September 2023 issued several guidelines for hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodations, including installation of spring-loaded fans in rooms 'to provide students mental support and security'. The television show Bigg Boss has kept viewers hooked for many years now, including the regional versions. But it is not always smooth sailing, given the atypical conditions the contestants live in for days at a time. Abhishek Mukherjee, the Project Head of Bigg Boss at Endemol Shine India, revealed on a podcast with Vijay Vikram Singh how a famous TV actor once tried to die by suicide on the show. The project head of Bigg Boss revealed the behind-the-scenes moment that left them reeling. Famous TV actor once tried to die by suicide on Bigg Boss Abhishek spoke in the podcast about how he believes creating content for Bigg Boss is only fine as long as they don't play with human emotions. He then recalled, without naming her, how in one of the regional versions of the show, an actor tried to die by suicide due to heartbreak. He said, 'It so happened that in one of the regional languages, a well-reputed television actor had a breakup when she entered the show. That's the reason she entered the show: that she'll have some time off from a bad breakup. Now, she fell in love with someone in the house. And that guy also cheated on her in the show. He was doing it for television, she couldn't gauge that. She found that out soon.' When she found out that she was cheated on, she tried to die by suicide, he said. 'One of the nights in Lonavala, when she came to know this, at three in the morning, she wanted to kill herself. She forgot she was even on the show. We ran as soon as we found out. Thankfully, we have a psychiatrist on board who was called in. We had to buy time and stall her till seven or so in the morning till he came from Mumbai.' 'Send Your Wife & Daughter': Harassed By Lenders, Local Official Of Vijay's TVK Dies By Suicide

The deceased ran a small business and worked at a chicken shop but was left paralysed after an accident, leaving him bedridden and unable to repay his Rs 3.8 lakh loan A tragic incident has emerged from Puducherry, where a 33-year-old man reportedly took his own life due to mounting pressure from multiple moneylenders. The deceased had borrowed Rs 3.8 lakh and was required to pay Rs 38,000 in interest each month, at a rate of 10 percent. The deceased was a local official of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a political organisation initiated by Tamil actor Vijay. Before his death, the man left a suicide note in which he explained the circumstances that led to his tragic decision. In the note, he appealed to actor Vijay to look after his family. According to an NDTV report, the deceased ran a small business and also worked at a chicken shop. He was left paralysed after an accident, rendering him bedridden and unable to work, which in turn prevented him from repaying his loan. According to police sources, the deceased had named several moneylenders in his note, alleging they had compelled him to commit suicide. He described the intense stress he faced as he was unable to repay the loans. The suicide note further revealed that one moneylender had demanded the victim send his wife and daughter to his house until the outstanding amount was settled. The suicide note revealed that he was paying Rs 38,000 per month as interest on a Rs 3.8 lakh loan. Additionally, the man had to pay Rs 6,000 monthly interest on a separate loan of Rs 30,000, which equated to a 20 percent monthly interest rate. The harassment from moneylenders intensified following his paralysis, exacerbating his already dire situation.
