Passenger Dies Mid-Flight
TDT | Manama A 65-year-old man from Kerala died yesterday after suffering a medical emergency on board a Kuwait-bound flight that was diverted to Bahrain. Flight Interrupted The passenger, Abdul Salam, a businessman based in Kuwait, was travelling on Air India Express flight IX 493 from Kannur to Kuwait when he began experiencing severe chest pain mid-air. The crew promptly alerted authorities, and the flight was diverted to Bahrain International Airport for urgent medical assistance. Upon landing, he was immediately transferred to King Hamad University Hospital. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Abdul Salam was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A relative travelling with him also disembarked in Bahrain and remained by his side through the ordeal. Salam was a native of Nileshwaram in Kerala's Kasaragod district. Community Mourns News of his passing has resonated within Bahrain's Malayali expatriate community, many of whom routinely travel the same Gulf routes for work or family reunions. Community members are reportedly assisting with repatriation arrangements. Funeral and repatriation details are being coordinated by relatives with the support of volunteers.

Rowdy-sheeter arrested for extortion in Bowenpally
A rowdy-sheeter was arrested by the Bowenpally police for attempting to extort and murder a motorist near a wine shop in Hasmathpet late on Monday night. The accused, Abdul Salam alias Abbu, 23, a fruit vendor residing in Hasmathpet, is a habitual offender with five previous assault cases registered in Alwal and Bowenpally police stations. According to police, on the night of July 7, the accused, in an inebriated condition, stopped a motorcyclist, Mohd Abdul Majeed. He allegedly blocked the victim's path and attempted to extort money, issuing threats. When the victim resisted, Salam attacked him with a folding knife, inflicting multiple injuries. Alert passers-by intervened and managed to rescue the victim, forcing the accused to flee. The injured man was rushed to a hospital for treatment. A case was booked by the Bowenpally police and Abdul Salam was picked up from his residence in the early hours of July 8. The police recovered the bloodstained folding knife used in the attack. Officers said the accused is well-known in the area for moving armed in public and intimidating local residents. In a brazen display of his criminal identity, he tattooed the numbers '302' and '307', referencing sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and attempted murder, on either side of his neck. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.

Navy recovers body of Tanzanian cadet, search continues for Yemeni students
Kochi/Kannur: The Indian Navy recovered the body of the international trainee who went missing in the Kochi backwaters. The body was recovered from a spot between the North jetty and Venduruthy bridge in the early hours of Tuesday. Extensive search operations were undertaken by the Naval diving teams and helicopter to locate the body. He was in Kochi while en route Tanzania, on leave from the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, the statement said. It added that the required formalities to repatriate the body back to Dar es Salaam are being progressed. The Indian Navy offers deepest condolences on the unfortunate demise of the international trainee, the statement said. The cadet was undergoing training at the INA and reached Kochi and he was reportedly engaging in recreational activities near the Venduruthy bridge when the accident occurred. Apart from the Navy, Coast Guard, Fire Force and coastal police conducted rescue operations. Harbour police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Yemeni students still missing Meanwhile, the two Yemeni students who went missing in the sea after being swept away by waves at Valappu Beach at Elankunnapuzha were still to be traced. They were part of a group of nine foreign national students from Rathinam Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. Fort Kochi coastal police said that the Indian Navy and coastal police held searches but they couldn't be located. Search is continuing for him. The body of Ganesh was found floating in the sea near Neerkadavu in the morning and it was recovered with the help of local fishermen. Coastal police, fire and rescue officials and local fishermen jointly conducted the search operations. The duo went missing on Monday evening while they were swimming in the sea.

Two Yemeni nationals go missing in sea at Kochi's Valappu
KOCHI: Two Yemeni nationals went missing after being caught in strong currents at the Valappu beach in Vypeen on Monday. The missing have been identified as Abdul Salam, 21, and Jibral, 23, both students of Rathinam College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Njarakkal police said. The incident occurred around 1pm when a group of nine young men — seven from Yemen and two from Sudan, all students of the Coimbatore college — were frolicking in the waves. 'The tragedy happened when the two moved farther into the sea during high tide and were swept away,' said Prejosh T P, a resident of Valappu. Subsequently, the coastal police, Njarakkal police, and the fire and rescue services personnel from the Vypeen station launched an intensive search and rescue operation. A fisheries department boat and a Navy helicopter too were actively involved in the search, but to no avail. The students, pursuing bachelor's courses in information technology and artificial intelligence, were on vacation and scheduled to return to their home countries the following day. Kochi was their final stop, the police said. Another local resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said the group arrived at the beach around 10.30am. 'Eager for a bit of adventure, some of them entered the sea and began enjoying the waves. As two of them were swept away, the other youths cried out for help. Local people rushed to the scene and initiated rescue efforts, but the situation quickly went beyond our control,' he said. A fire and rescue services officer said they received an alert from the local police station around 1pm and promptly arrived at the site.

Two Yemeni students went missing at Valappu beach near Puthu Vypeen after venturing into the sea for a bath around 12:30 p.m. on Monday (June 2). The missing students were identified as Abdul Salam, 21, and Jubran, 22. They were part of a nine-member group of foreign students — seven Yemenis and two Sudanese — from Rathinam College, Coimbatore. 'All nine students entered the sea. While the others managed to swim to safety, the two went missing,' said the Coastal Police. A search operation involving the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Police, Marine Enforcement, and the scuba team of the Fire and Rescue Services continued late into the evening.
