Qatar Pavilion celebrates National Day with special showcase at Expo 2025

OSAKA: The Qatar Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, hosted a special celebration marking Qatar's National Day, as part of the official celebrations organised by the Expo Committee for participating countries. The event was attended by Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani; Her Imperial Highness Princess Hisako Takamado, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan and Commissioner General HE Jaber bin Jarallah Al Marri; Deputy Commissioner General and Chair of Qatar's Expo 2025 Organising Committee HE Sheikh Ali bin Alwaleed Al Thani; and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture HE Dr Ghanim bin Mubarak Al Ali. They were joined by senior officials, diplomats, and pavilion visitors from around the world. In his remarks, Ambassador Al Marri emphasised that celebrating Qatar National Day at such a global platform reflects a deep pride in national identity and cultural heritage, and embodies the core values upon which the State was founded, such as unity, generosity, and openness to the world. He also highlighted that Qatar's participation at Expo 2025 reaffirms the depth of the strategic partnership with Japan and reflects the country's commitment to addressing regional and global priorities. The celebration, the Ambassador added, offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding and people-to-people connections between the Qatari and Japanese communities, as well as with the broader international audience. The Expo offers a multicultural environment that promotes cultural exchange and international cooperation, in line with Qatar National Vision aimed to foster intercultural dialogue and global cooperation. Dr Ali affirmed that the National Day celebration is a significant opportunity to share Qatar's cultural heritage with a global audience. He noted that the Ministry's participation underscores its commitment to promoting cultural exchange, fostering meaningful dialogue. Sheikh Ali emphasised that hosting Qatar's National Day celebration marks a proud milestone in the country's broader participation at this global event. He noted that the celebration not only introduces the Japanese and international communities to Qatar's rich culture and aspirations but also reflects the forward-looking vision shaping its future through the Pavilion's distinctive immersive design and interactive programming. The event featured a documentary about the State of Qatar, produced by the Ministry of Culture, followed by a series of cultural performances showcasing Qatari cultural heritage. Following the event, the Minister of Culture and Her Imperial Highness, accompanied by officials and diplomats, toured both the Qatari and Japanese pavilions. The Qatar Pavilion, under the theme 'From the Coastline, We Progress', drew significant interest from the Expo visitors, offering a vivid reflection of Qatar's national identity and the country's ongoing development journey. The pavilion presents a rich, multi-sensory interactive experience, beginning with Qatar's maritime heritage and extending across key themes including hospitality, identity, art, architecture, nature, and innovation. It also showcases the facets of cooperation between Qatar and Japan in education, energy, economy, and culture. At the conclusion of the event, the organising committee extended an invitation to visitors from around the world to explore the Qatar Pavilion and immerse themselves in the rich cultural essence and enduring charm of the nation.

Culture minister lays foundation stone for Voltaire Library and Museum

QNA Doha Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani and Chairman of the Board of the Qatari-French school Voltaire HE Dr Ali bin Fetais Al Marri laid the foundation stone for the Voltaire Library and Museum in Doha on Sunday. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Voltaire School's Al Waab branch, in the presence of several cultural and diplomatic figures. In a statement to Qatar News Agency, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education HE Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi affirmed the ministry's commitment to educational diversity, noting the presence of several French and other international schools in the country. He emphasised that the creation of the Voltaire Library and Museum will transform the site into a global hub for French culture in Qatar, benefiting students, researchers, and the broader public. He added that this project represents a modern and innovative model that connects culture with education across all academic levels, contributing to the intellectual development of students and preparing them to be knowledgeable future citizens. Dr Al Nuaimi also noted the ministry's support for all schools in Qatar, including Voltaire School, and the state's broader interest in launching significant cultural initiatives like this one - expressing hope that similar projects will be replicated in other schools. Spanning an area of 8,000 square metres within the school campus, the Voltaire Library and Museum is considered a pioneering cultural initiative aimed at preserving the legacy of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire and promoting intellectual dialogue and cross-cultural exchange. The project will feature a specialised library, reading and research spaces, and a theatre equipped with state-of-the-art sound technology. The museum will also house personal belongings and letters of Voltaire, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore various facets of his life and intellectual contributions.

Culture minister launches new stamp on Dar Alkutub Al Qatariya re-opening

QNA Doha Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday launched a postage stamp marking the reopening of Dar Alkutub Al Qatariya. The launch at the Ministry of Culture's pavilion at the 34th Doha International Book Fair was attended by President of Civil Service and Government Development Bureau HE Dr Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and Minister of Culture of the Syrian Arab Republic HE Mohammed Yassin Saleh. The new issue was a result of cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Qatar Post to document the history of Qatar's first national library, which was set up in 1962 as an incubator for culture, arts, literature and heritage in Qatar. Director General of Dar Alkutub Al Qatariya Ibrahim Al Buhashim Al Sayed said the new issue was inspired by the designs of old stamps and reflects the legacy of classic Qatari stamps.
