Man kills mother, dies by suicide on rly tracks
Jaipur: A 38-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and then ended his own life by jumping in front of a train in the city on Monday. The man, identified as Abhijeet Bhaduri, was found dead on the railway tracks near Jawahar Circle. When police reached the spot, they recovered a key from his pocket, which led them to a rented flat under the Muhana police station limits. SHO (Muhana) Gur Bhupendra Singh said Abhijeet's 68-year-old mother, Pushpanjali, was found dead inside the flat. "There were visible injury marks on her body, indicating that she was murdered," Singh said, adding that further details would be confirmed after the post-mortem. The police officer said that the primary probe shows that Abhijeet killed his mother inside the flat and then ventured out where he jumped before the moving train and died. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Pushpanjali was separated from her husband since 2007 and was living with her son in Jaipur. Abhijeet, who earlier worked at a call centre, was said to be unemployed for some time and was struggling with personal issues. Police said that Abhijeet grew increasingly reclusive in recent years. "We were told by locals that he became short-tempered and withdrawn after the covid lockdowns," Singh said. Investigators suspect that financial strain and mental distress may have contributed to the incident, though they were waiting for statements from relatives and neighbours to build a clearer picture. The bodies will be handed over to Abhijeet's father, who was informed of the tragedy by the police. "His father is a heart patient and we did not want to question him too much at this stage, therefore, all details will be gathered later," said an official. The police were also looking into the exact sequence of events and whether any notes or messages were left behind. A forensic team examined the scene at the flat on Monday afternoon. "Further investigation is underway," said an official. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!

(HT photo for representation) The case pertains to Sumit Kaur, a resident of Sector 10-A, who fell victim to psychologically manipulative fraud on May 3. She received a call from a person impersonating an official from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), claiming that her SIM card had been misused and an FIR was registered against her. The scam escalated with a series of WhatsApp video calls from individuals posing as senior law enforcement officers, including a fictitious CBI DIG Rajiv Ranjan and a fake Supreme Court judge, who presented fabricated arrest warrants and accused her of being involved in a Jet Airways money laundering case. Under severe psychological pressure and fearing legal consequences, the victim was coerced into transferring her entire life savings, approximately ₹ 2.5 crore, into multiple bank accounts operated by the scam network. The now arrested accused have been identified as Prashant Kumar, 20, resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh; Abhijeet, 24, and Anurag alias Vikrant, 23. On June 22, Prashant was arrested from Bijnor, where he confessed that he had linked his phone number to an IndusInd Bank account that was created using another person's KYC documents. He admitted to handing over the account details to the fraudsters and received ₹ 54,000 as commission. During interrogation, Prashant revealed that Abhijeet and Anurag alias Vikrant were also part of the racket and that the group had met in three different locations of Nashik, Mumbai, and Bhopal, where they were offered 15% commission per account for enabling the fraud. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of Abhijeet and Anurag on June 27, and police recovered multiple mobile phones, active SIM cards, and photocopies of forged KYC documents from their possession. All three accused have confessed to their roles and are being remanded to police custody for further questioning. The case was registered on June 1 under sections 308, 319(2), 318(4), 338, 340(2), 61(2), and 336(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) registered at PS Cyber Crime.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya slams Diljit Dosanjh using old concert clip amid Sardaar Ji 3 row: 'Hindustan hamare baap ke purvajon ka hai'
Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has lashed out at actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh , using an old video clip from one of Diljit's concerts to criticise him over the release of his latest Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the lead. In his post, Abhijeet featured Diljit's performance of a line from the iconic poem by Rahat Indori, 'Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai,' and added his own rebuttal: 'Hindustan hamare baap ka hai... Hindustan hamare baap ke baap ke baap ke purvajo ka hai.' The video concluded with Abhijeet holding the Tiranga to the tune of 'Sare Jahan Se Achha', captioned: 'Hindustan Hamare BAAP ka hai..' Abhijeet's outrage follows Sardaar Ji 3 casting row While the concert clip is not recent, Abhijeet's sudden reaction appears to be linked to the backlash against Sardaar Ji 3. Many social media users including celebrities criticised the collaboration between Diljit and Hania Aamir, given the strained political relationship between India and Pakistan. The makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have skipped a theatrical release in India due to the backlash, opting instead for an overseas release, where Diljit enjoys a massive fan following across North America, the UK, and Australia. Interstate ammunition trafficking racket busted; 4,500 rounds of ammunition seized, six arrested
Patna: The Bihar Police's Arms Cell, in coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, busted an interstate racket of ammunition traffickers, leading to the arrest of six people and the seizure of more than 4,500 rounds of ammunition. The operation, which culminated on June 22, began following technical surveillance of the prime suspect, Kumar Abhijeet from Nalanda. Intelligence suggested that Abhijeet regularly procured ammunition from Auraiya and Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh, said a senior police official on Monday. According to the police official, "Acting on specific information, a joint team comprising Arms Cell, Special Task Force Bihar, District Intelligence Unit, and local police intercepted Abhijeet and his accomplice Shatrughan Kumar alias Devendra with an SUV near Mohania Toll Plaza on Sunday. The search of their SUV (BR 01HQ 8158) yielded 2,950 rounds of .315 bore and 750 rounds of .32 bore ammunition." Following their arrest, subsequent raids were conducted at multiple locations in Nalanda district. At a rented room in Sohsarai, the team arrested one Vishal Kumar and recovered 490 rounds of 9mm and 229 rounds of.32 bore ammunition. Another operation in Bhagan Bigha led to the arrest of four more suspects, including 70-year-old Rajendra Prasad and two women — Nibha Kumari and Nikki Kumari. The team seized additional ammunition, including rare 51 cartridges of 7.62 (SLR). DSP Sheikh Sabir, heading the Arms Cell operation, said, "This is a significant breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms and ammunition trafficking in the state. The interstate nature of this racket suggests a larger network, which we are currently investigating." The accused were arrested under relevant sections of the Arms Act, and their interrogations are underway to uncover the full extent of their network and criminal history, he added.
