Man kills mother, dies by suicide on rly tracks

Time of India3 days ago
Jaipur: A 38-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and then ended his own life by jumping in front of a train in the city on Monday.
The man, identified as Abhijeet Bhaduri, was found dead on the railway tracks near Jawahar Circle.
When police reached the spot, they recovered a key from his pocket, which led them to a rented flat under the Muhana police station limits.
SHO (Muhana) Gur Bhupendra Singh said Abhijeet's 68-year-old mother, Pushpanjali, was found dead inside the flat. "There were visible injury marks on her body, indicating that she was murdered," Singh said, adding that further details would be confirmed after the post-mortem.
The police officer said that the primary probe shows that Abhijeet killed his mother inside the flat and then ventured out where he jumped before the moving train and died. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Pushpanjali was separated from her husband since 2007 and was living with her son in Jaipur. Abhijeet, who earlier worked at a call centre, was said to be unemployed for some time and was struggling with personal issues.
Police said that Abhijeet grew increasingly reclusive in recent years. "We were told by locals that he became short-tempered and withdrawn after the covid lockdowns," Singh said.
Investigators suspect that financial strain and mental distress may have contributed to the incident, though they were waiting for statements from relatives and neighbours to build a clearer picture. The bodies will be handed over to Abhijeet's father, who was informed of the tragedy by the police.
"His father is a heart patient and we did not want to question him too much at this stage, therefore, all details will be gathered later," said an official.
The police were also looking into the exact sequence of events and whether any notes or messages were left behind. A forensic team examined the scene at the flat on Monday afternoon. "Further investigation is underway," said an official.

‘Some have one or more bones': Six families of Air India crash victims receive ‘second set of remains'

Six families of victims of the Air India AI-171 plane crash received a "second set" of remains from the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Thursday. For some, this may mean a second funeral, the Times of India (TOI) reported. On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. More than 250 persons were killed. Sources told the Times of India that a consent form was distributed among relatives of the deceased, including passengers, crew members, doctors, their relatives and local residents. "The form sought permission to carry out the last rites of remains that may be found during further clearing of the spot or during medical analysis," an official was quoted as saying. Now, as per the report, these remains were from 16 bodies found at the wreckage site in Meghaninagar during post-disaster operation. They were matched with DNA samples provided by kin. All six families belonged to different parts of Gujarat, including Anand, Nadiad, and Ahmedabad. They had asked hospital authorities to approach them in case of a DNA match. "It is rare for the same person to have more than one funeral, but in this case, the families have the DNA match and certificate of handover of the mortal remains. Thus, there will be no issue even if there is more than one funeral for the remains," and official told TOI. Of the remaining 10 victims, the families of nine have consented to the hospital carrying out the last rites, whereas a response from the family of one victim is awaited, said the sources. "Some have part of the body, whereas some have one or more bones. Due to the nature of the crash, it is possible that victims' bodies underwent intense distress that may have caused fragmentation," an official was quoted as saying.

Another reason to drive safe on Indian roads: You may lose insurance claim for rash driving

A bench consisting of Justices P S Narasimha and R Mahadevan refused to give relief to a wife, son and parents of a man who died in a car accident due to its high speed, which led the vehicle to topple over read more The Supreme Court has said that insurance companies are not bound to cover the costs of a road accident caused by the recklessness of the driver, in a stark reminder to rash drivers. According to a report by Times of India, a bench consisting of Justices P S Narasimha and R Mahadevan refused to give relief to a wife, son and parents of a man who died in a car accident due to its high speed, which led the vehicle to topple over. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The top court dismissed a compensation claim filed by the family of a deceased man, who had sought Rs 80 lakh from United India Insurance Company. The bench ruled that family members are not entitled to an insurance payout when the death results from the deceased's own mistake, with no external factors involved. The Court upheld the Karnataka High Court's decision from November 23 last year, which had also rejected the claim. The case finds its origins in an accident that happened in 2014 when N S Ravisha was driving from Bengaluru's Mallasandra to Arasikere city along with his sister, her children and father. The vehicle met with an accident as the man drove rashly and at high speeds, breaking traffic rules. Ravisha died from injuries sustained in the accident. His wife, son, and parents filed a claim seeking Rs 80 lakh in compensation, arguing that he was a successful contractor earning ₹3 lakh per month. However, the police chargesheet stated that the accident was caused by Ravisha's rash and negligent driving. Based on this, the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal dismissed the family's compensation request. During a hearing at the Karnataka High Court, Ravisha's kin's claim that the accident was caused by a burst tyre was rejected, with the court saying, 'when a claim is made by legal representatives of the deceased, it has to be proved that the deceased was not himself responsible for the accident by his rash and negligent driving and it would also be necessary to prove that the deceased would be covered under the policy so as to make the insurance company liable to make payment to the legal heirs.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The court added, 'In the instant case, admittedly the accident occurred due to the rash and negligent driving of the deceased himself and he being a self-tortfeasor, the legal heirs cannot claim any compensation for his death'.

Insurance Companies Not Obliged To Pay For Deaths Caused By Rash Driving, Rules SC

Last Updated: The apex court rejected a plea filed by the kin of a victim who died due to rash and negligent driving. Insurance companies are not obligated to pay compensation to victims who die due to rash driving, said the Supreme Court on Wednesday. A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and R Mahadevan denied compensation to the wife, son, and parents of a man who died in a car accident. The man was reportedly driving the car at high speed and in a rash manner, making it an act of negligence, reported the Times of India. The court dismissed a plea by the kin of the victim, seeking Rs 80 lakh compensation from the insurance company, United India Insurance Company, and said that the family cannot demand compensation as the death was caused by the man's own negligence and did not involve any extraneous factors. The top court upheld the Karnataka High Court's decision on November 23 last year, dismissing the compensation claim. What's The Case? The case dates back to June 18, 2018, when N.S. Ravisha was on his way from Mallasandra village to Arasikere town. He was travelling with his father, sister, and children when the accident took place. Notably, Ravisha was not only driving at high speed, but he also broke traffic rules before his car toppled over and rolled on the road near Mylanahalli Gate, Arasikere. The man died in the accident, said the report. After his demise, his wife and son claimed compensation of Rs 80 lakh, citing that the deceased was a busy contractor who earned Rs 3 lakh per month. However, the chargesheet filed by the police cites Ravisha's rash and negligent driving as the reason behind his death, and the claim was rejected by the Motor Accident Tribunal.
