In a move aimed at boosting the ease of doing business, the Telangana government has issued orders allowing employees in commercial establishments (excluding shops) to work up to 10 hours per day, with a cap of 48 hours per to a government order issued by the Labour, Employment, Training & Factories Department on July 5, the exemption is made under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (Act No. 20 of 1988).advertisementThe notification allows such establishments to be exempt from Sections 16 and 17 of the Act, which relate to working hours and rest intervals, subject to specific conditions. The government order issued by the Labour, Employment, Training & Factories Department on July 5 stated that the exemption is made under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 (Act No. 20 of 1988). According to the notification, such establishments are to be exempt from Sections 16 and 17 of the Act, which relate to working hours and rest intervals, subject to specific conditions. The official order suggested that the daily work hours should not exceed 10 hours, and the weekly limit must not exceed 48 hours. Work done beyond these limits will qualify for overtime wages. The order also stated that the employees working over six hours a day are entitled to a minimum 30-minute break, and their total work and rest hours shouldn't exceed 12 hours in 24 hours. Employees can work beyond the standard 48 hours per week, but only up to 144 hours of overtime in a quarter, and they must receive overtime pay for the extra hours worked.
