Arab nations call for peace, renewal of Arab Peace Initiative on final day of UN 2-state solution conference
Arab nations issued a unified call to end the violence in Gaza and the West Bank on Wednesday, reiterating their strongest endorsement yet of the Arab Peace Initiative as the only viable framework for regional peace and stability. 'What we're seeing today in Gaza, the withdrawal of stability and security in the region, is indeed the outcome of the ongoing occupation,' said a representative of the Arab League, delivering a statement on behalf of the organization's secretary-general, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. 'This is the price being paid by Palestinians, a price paid in blood.' He described the toll as 'an extremely high price that we are all paying for the system of apartheid and occupation to remain on this land,' adding that the League remains committed to the Arab Peace Initiative, which was initially adopted in Beirut, 23 years ago. 'This vision hasn't, however, been reciprocated. Rather, it has been countered by arrogance and nationalism based on religious sectarian views that will lead the region to an unknown future,' he said. The comments came at the conclusion of the 'High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution' at the UN headquarters in New York. Oman echoed the sentiment, with its representative reaffirming that 'comprehensive and lasting peace' must be grounded in the framework of international law, as outlined in the Arab Peace Initiative. In a position similar to that adopted by other nations during the conference, the Omani representative accused Israel of unilaterally 'eroding' the prospects for peace, in what he described as 'defiance of the provisions of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.' He continued: 'The nature of the current Israeli government's policies, as the most extreme in decades, further complicates the landscape and directly hampers all effort to relaunch the peace process.' The Gulf Cooperation Council reiterated its position of support for a two-state solution to the decades-long conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, condemned the continuing Israeli aggression against Gaza, and demanded that it end. The council's representative said it also rejected Israeli settlement policies as a blatant violation, and called for full humanitarian access in Gaza and reconstruction of the territory to begin. 'True greatness is not based on power but on the ability to use power to serve justice,' he added. 'It is time to turn this principle into (a) clear international position that recognizes (a) fully independent Palestinian state.' The representative for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation joined the others in advocating for a two-state solution, and stressed the need for Israeli authorities to act in accordance with UN resolutions. Israel is guilty of 'systemic crimes including aggression, genocide, destruction, displacement, starvation and blockade on the Gaza Strip,' he added, in addition to 'illegal policies of settlement expansion, annexation and ethnic cleansing.' Moreover, Israel's intention 'to impose its so-called sovereignty over the West Bank, including the occupied city of Jerusalem … constitutes flagrant violations of international law and the relevant UN resolutions,' the representative said as he called for an end to all such actions. The calls came as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the conflict in Gaza has reached 'breaking point.' International pressure for a ceasefire agreement continues to mount but Israel has resisted calls to halt its military operations, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly moving ahead with plans to annex parts of Gaza if Hamas rejects a truce. On Wednesday, sources said Israel had turned down the latest ceasefire proposal, citing its refusal to withdraw forces from key areas of the territory. Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, described this week's UN conference as 'a political circus' against Israel. 'We're seeing a detachment from reality, the spread of lies, and support for terrorism,' he wrote in a message posted on social media platform X. The US special envoy to the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, was expected to arrive in Tel Aviv on Thursday for talks with Israeli officials. His visit comes as the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification warns that the 'worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out' in Gaza. Iran's representative at the UN also spoke on the final day of the conference, condemning a 'policy of appeasement' from the international community toward Israel, and calling for concrete action. 'In light of its continued defiance of the UN Charter, the Israeli regime must face targeted sanctions and suspension of its UN membership to protect the integrity and credibility of the organization,' the he said. He further urged member states to press the Security Council to admit Palestine as a full member of the UN and insisted that 'this process must not be obstructed by the United States.' Palestine currently has observer status at the UN. A follow-up summit to this week's conference is planned to take place during the UN General Assembly in September.

Aboul Gheit Tells UN Conference: Global Will Is United to End Israeli Occupation
Mohamed Mandour Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit addressed the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, declaring that "the international will is united to end the racist settler occupation." Speaking before the UN General Assembly in New York, Aboul Gheit opened his remarks by thanking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France for their sincere and determined efforts in convening the crucial gathering, which runs from July 28 to 30. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Jamal Rushdy, Aboul Gheit condemned what he described as "Israel's ongoing crime of genocide against civilians, women, and children in the Gaza Strip." He asserted that this atrocity stems from the 'continuing crime of occupation and settlement of Palestinian lands.' Aboul Gheit emphasized that normalization and peaceful coexistence in the region are impossible without an end to the occupation and a just peace with the Palestinians. "Israel will not succeed in integrating into the region without resolving its conflict with the Palestinian people," he said. The Secretary-General also highlighted the broad international participation in the conference as evidence of a strong, unified global stance in support of Palestinian statehood. Qatar, others discuss ICC's role in prosecuting Israeli crimes in Occupied Palestinian Territories
QNA Cairo Qatar participated in a seminar titled 'The Role of the International Criminal Court in Prosecuting Those Responsible for Crimes Committed by the Israeli Occupation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,' held in the Arab League headquarters. The seminar addressed monitoring and documenting Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, prosecuting their perpetrators before international justice, and examining ways to follow up on the implementation of decisions by judicial bodies - the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), and advancing the application of international sanctions. The seminar highlighted the facts of the ongoing war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, and the crimes against humanity committed by the occupation, in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, and the systematic destruction and uprooting of all aspects of life that it has caused, including more than 250,000 martyrs, wounded, detained and missing persons, and the destruction of more than 80 percent of the Gaza Strip, with starvation being used as a weapon of murder and guardianship imposed on humanitarian work as an alternative to international bodies of jurisdiction, and the so-called aid centers that it sponsors being traps for the hungry, death traps and mass detention centres. The seminar also addressed the situation in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the ongoing war crimes, terrorism, attacks, destruction of property, racial discrimination, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement. The Israeli aggression in the West Bank since October 7, 2023 has resulted in the martyrdom of approximately 1,000 citizens, the injury of more than 7,000 others, the arrest of 12,500, and the displacement of approximately 60,000 citizens. In his opening remarks on behalf of the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Department Ambassador Said Abu Ali said that everyone witnesses with pain and anger the facts of the ongoing war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, and the horrific crimes committed by the occupation that are a disgrace to humanity. They are returning humanity to the era of hideous barbarism without a real will to stop it, but rather to coexist with it and allow it to continue, which can only be explained by complicity. He said, 'We recall that war crimes and crimes against humanity, crimes of ethnic cleansing, displacement, settlement and Judaisation are nothing but ingrained crimes that confirm the nature of this occupation since the Palestinian Nakba more than 70 years ago. They are the same crimes and massacres that are repeated in their most horrific forms and with their most brutal weapons, with this ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, their land, their existence and their rights since October 7, 2023, and the destruction and uprooting of all the elements of life that it has left behind with more than 250,000 victims between martyrs, wounded, detained and missing, and the destruction of more than 80 percent of the Gaza Strip in the context of systematic destruction, the total annihilation of life and the implementation of displacement plans. The Abu Ali also noted that the use of starvation as a weapon of mass murder has become routine, with the occupying army imposing its guardianship over humanitarian action as an alternative to international bodies, and transforming the so-called aid centers it sponsors into hunger traps, death traps, and mass detention centres. He added that the situation in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, is no less catastrophic, with the Israeli occupation committing numerous war crimes as part of its escalating aggressive policies, and in all Palestinian cities, towns and camps, at the same time that armed settler gangs, with direct support from the occupation army, continue to practise terrorism, continuous attacks, destruction of property, imposing isolation and closures, carrying out field executions and arrest campaigns, Judasation, practising racial discrimination, ethnic cleansing and forced displacement, to achieve its colonial goals of annexation and Judaisation. He urged all countries that have not yet recognised the State of Palestine to take this necessary step to advance the implementation of the two-state solution, as it is the only solution that expresses the will of the international community to achieve peace and prosperity in the region, and to address the causes of this ongoing conflict by ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

AL Chief Heads to New York for High-Level Conference on Palestinian Peace Settlement
Nada Mustafa Secretary-General of Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has departed for New York to participate in the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. The conference will be held from July 28 to 30, under the joint chairmanship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France. Jamal Rushdi, spokesperson for Secretary-General, stated that the Arab League is participating in the conference in its capacity as co-chair, alongside the European Union, of Working Group 8, which focuses on "Peace Day Efforts." This group aims to develop a comprehensive package of political, economic, and security support for the State of Palestine within the framework of a two-state solution. Cultural identity of the Arab child The meeting will be titled "The Cultural Identity of the Arab Child," reflecting the great importance the Parliament places on instilling the concepts of Arab identity in children's minds and strengthening their sense of belonging to the cultural, historical, and ethical heritage of Arab countries. Empowering children The meeting is held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the direct support of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
