Aboul Gheit Tells UN Conference: Global Will Is United to End Israeli Occupation
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit addressed the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, declaring that "the international will is united to end the racist settler occupation."
Speaking before the UN General Assembly in New York, Aboul Gheit opened his remarks by thanking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France for their sincere and determined efforts in convening the crucial gathering, which runs from July 28 to 30.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Jamal Rushdy, Aboul Gheit condemned what he described as "Israel's ongoing crime of genocide against civilians, women, and children in the Gaza Strip." He asserted that this atrocity stems from the 'continuing crime of occupation and settlement of Palestinian lands.'
Aboul Gheit emphasized that normalization and peaceful coexistence in the region are impossible without an end to the occupation and a just peace with the Palestinians. "Israel will not succeed in integrating into the region without resolving its conflict with the Palestinian people," he said.
The Secretary-General also highlighted the broad international participation in the conference as evidence of a strong, unified global stance in support of Palestinian statehood. He reaffirmed the Arab League's commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative, reiterating that—23 years after its launch—it remains the only viable path to lasting regional peace: the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, including East Jerusalem, and the full end of Israeli occupation.

FM hails strategic cooperation with Russia in key projects
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty commended on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, strong cooperation between Egypt and Russia in a number of strategic projects of mutual concern, namely El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, on the sidelines of the high-level international conference on the peaceful solution to the Palestinians issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, currently taking place at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York. Abdelatty said Egypt is looking forward to boosting Russian investments in Egypt through the Russian Industrial Zone. As for the tourism sector, he highlighted steady increase in reciprocal flights between the two countries, voicing hope for the continued flow of Russian tourists to Egypt. Meanwhile, Abdelatty and the Russian deputy foreign minister exchanged views on developments in the Gaza Strip. The minister reviewed Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire, facilitate de-escalation and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to Gaza. Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's ongoing preparations to host an international reconstruction conference on Gaza, in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the UN, once a ceasefire is secured. The meeting tackled developments in Syria, as Abdelatty strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and violation of its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. He retreated Egypt's calls for Israel to withdrawal from all Syrian territories occupied since 1967, including the Golan Heights.

Malta's PM reveals plans to recognize State of Palestine
Israa Farhan Malta will formally recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly in September, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced on Tuesday. The decision comes just hours after a similar declaration by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and follows France's recent pledge to recognize Palestine ahead of the UN meeting. In a social media statement, Abela reaffirmed Malta's commitment to lasting peace in the Middle East. The Maltese government has faced mounting internal pressure in recent months to take a clear stance on Palestinian statehood. In mid-July, the right-wing opposition publicly called for immediate recognition. The Mediterranean island nation, a member of the European Union, has a longstanding history of supporting Palestinian rights and endorsing a two-state solution. Prime Minister Abela initially revealed plans to recognize Palestine in May, indicating the move would take place during a UN conference scheduled for June. However, the conference was later postponed. Malta now joins a growing number of European nations backing Palestinian statehood. Ireland, Norway, and Spain formally recognized Palestine as an independent state in May 2024. The international momentum reflects increasing frustration with the ongoing conflict in Gaza and growing support for diplomatic efforts to establish a sovereign Palestinian state. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

15 western countries push for Palestine recognition - Region
Fifteen countries, including France, Spain, and Norway, called on countries worldwide to move to recognise a Palestinian state, France's top diplomat said Wednesday. The foreign ministers of 15 countries late Tuesday issued a joint statement following a conference in New York, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, aimed at reviving a two-state solution between Israelis and the Palestinians. "In New York, together with 14 other countries, France is issuing a collective appeal: we express our desire to recognise the State of Palestine and invite those who have not yet done so to join us," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot wrote on X. President Emmanuel Macron announced last week he would formally recognize Palestinian statehood in September, provoking strong opposition from Israel and the United States. France is hoping to build a momentum around the formal recognition of a Palestinian state. On Tuesday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the UK will formally recognize the State of Palestine in September unless Israel takes various "substantive steps", including agreeing to a ceasefire in Gaza. Starmer's move, paired with Paris, would make the two European allies the first G7 nations to do so. In the statement, 15 nations including Spain, Norway, and Finland affirmed their "unwavering commitment to the vision of the two-state solution." Nine of the signatories which have not yet recognised the Palestinian state expressed "the willingness or the positive consideration of their countries" to do so, including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Seventeen countries plus the European Union and Arab League during the conference joined calls for Hamas to disarm and end its rule of Gaza, in a bid to end the devastating Israeli war on the Palestinian territory. * This story was edited by Ahram Online.
