'Messi Might Come To Al-Ahly': Mahrez Waiting For ARG Star To Step Foot In Saudi

Al-Ahly winger Riyad Mahrez dreams of playing alongside Lionel Messi in the Saudi Pro League, envisioning the latter as a playmaker. Al-Ahly winger Riyad Mahrez has said that it would be a dream for the team to play alongside Lionel Messi, if he arrives in the Saudi Pro League, and he would like to imagine him as the playmaker with himself on the wing. There has been a murmur around Messi moving to Saudi Arabia over the past few weeks. Cristiano Ronaldo helped transform the Saudi Pro League after joining Al Nassr as a free agent in January 2023. He believes that the tournament is amongst the world's top five leagues and is a superior product to Ligue 1 and Major League Soccer. 'Saudi League is better than Ligue 1, of course. Try to sprint in 38, 39, 40-degree weather and see. France only has PSG. The rest are finished," Ronaldo had said in December. 'No. I think the five big European leagues are ahead and then we can start to compete with the other leagues. We're not too far off, I think. After that, the goal isn't to be the best league in the world right now," Mahrez said earlier this month when asked about Ronaldo's statement. 'Those like me who have arrived are here at the beginning of this adventure; we're a bit like pioneers. We're helping them make this league stronger. And frankly, over my two seasons, I've felt progress in the teams, the coaches, the tactics and the organisation," Mahrez added. After disagreeing with Ronaldo, the Al-Ahly winger was interviewed by CARRE, where he said that he and Messi would make a great duo. 'We heard from the newspapers that Messi might come to Al-Ahly. It would be a dream for us to play together… I imagine him as a playmaker and me on the wing. We would make a great duo," Mahrez said. 'There is no special protection for dribbling players. Maybe Messi would receive special treatment if he decided to come, but not me. I received a lot of beatings," Mahrez added. Messi's contract with Inter Miami is up in late 2025 and Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahly are 'ready to do whatever it takes' to convince Messi to sign with them, according to reports. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'He was extremely upset': Jose Riveiro misses chance to reunite with Pirates?

Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly upset with the club's management's decision not to allow to team to travel to Spain for their pre-season. The 49-year-old Spanish coach joined the Red Devils in May from Orlando Pirates where he won five trophies in three years. During his time with the Buccaneers, Riveiro took his team to Spain twice for pre-season, which was one of the reasons why the Sea Robbers were successful. According to Journalist Medhat Shalaby, the former Bucs coach wanted Al Ahly to have their pre-season in his native country, where he believed conditions would be more favourable for preparation. 'Al Ahly had agreed to hold a training camp in Spain, and the Spaniard Jose Riveiro wanted to hold the camp in his country, especially since the atmosphere in Spain is completely different from that in Tunisia at the moment,' Shalaby said per Elwatan News . 'The Spaniard, Riveiro, after learning that the camp would be held in Tunisia, expressed his great anger and was extremely upset. 'The Al-Ahly management convinced him and told him that the Etoile Sportive du Sahel club would cover the costs,' he added. 'In the end, Etoile Sportive du Sahel apologised, and the two friendly matches for Al-Ahly club will be held against both Stade Tunisien (already played) and Bizertin.' Jose Riveiro could possibly have reunited with Orlando Pirates, given that the Buccaneers' pre-season was recently held in Spain. KUWAIT CITY, July 16: Tunisian media have reported that, currently with Tunisia's Ben Guerdane is a strong candidate to join Kuwaiti side Qadsia. The player has also received offers from Libyan club Al-Ahly and Tunisian giants Esperance. Throughout his career, he has played for clubs including Yarmouk, Salmiya, Al-Arabi, and, most recently, Kuwait Club, as well as representing the Kuwaiti national team. Meanwhile, midfielder Mishaal Khalid became the latest player to leave Qadsia ahead of the new campaign, joining a list of departures that includes Nigerian Daniel Jebola, Algerian Hussein Dahiri, and Kuwaitis Abdullah Al-Shamali, Mohammed Khalil, Ahmed Shbeeb, Abdullah Al-Enezi, Mansour Bandar, and Aziz Nasari. Qadsia began training yesterday under the guidance of Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul. Kuwait Club to host 40th Arab Clubs Handball Championship in September

KUWAIT CITY, July 13: The Arab Handball Federation announced on Saturday that Kuwait Club will host the 40th edition of the Arab Clubs Championship, scheduled to take place from September 12 to 22. The announcement was made via the federation's official account on the X platform. The decision comes after Kuwait Club previously withdrew from the competition due to the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex being allocated for the Asian Futsal Championship. This year's tournament is expected to see the participation of three Kuwaiti clubs: Kuwait Club, Kazma, and Burgan. Kuwait Club has a strong recent history in the tournament, having hosted and won the 39th edition in September 2024 by defeating Al-Salmiya in the final. The club also won the 38th edition, overcoming Egypt's Zamalek in the final held at Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Sports City in Qatif, Saudi Arabia. Historically, Esperance Sportive de Tunis holds the most titles (7), followed by Al-Ahly of Egypt (5), and Etoile Sportive de Tunis and Mouloudia of Algeria with 3 each. Kuwait Club is among several teams that have won the championship twice, alongside Al-Ahly and Al-Nour (KSA), Club Africain (Tunisia), and Naft Oran (Algeria). Other past champions with one title include Al-Ain (UAE), Tasweeq (Algeria), Sporting and Zamalek (Egypt), Al-Rayyan and Al-Gharafa (Qatar), Al-Ahly (Bahrain), and Sakiet Ezzit (Tunisia).
