Labor Union praises new Central Bank Governor's positions, emphasis on returning depositors' funds
NNA - In an issued statement by General Labor Union Head, Bechara Al-Asmar, he praised "the honorable stances of Lebanon's new Central Bank Governor, Karim Saeed, who emphasized the return of depositors' funds through a transparent action plan and roadmap, based on placing the burden of losses resulting from the financial collapse and chaos that has prevailed since the outbreak of protests in late 2019, and the resulting smuggling of funds and the random disposal of other assets, on three parties - the state, the banks, and the Central Bank of Lebanon."
The Union also congratulated the new Governor on his intention to conduct a thorough investigation to determine responsibilities to bring those involved to justice before the judiciary. "This falls within the framework of good governance, responsible and independent of all political interference, as the Governor declared in his statements," Al-Asmar added.
"The General Labor Union, the most representative body of all Lebanese laborers in various sectors, and the one most affected by the evaporation of deposits and the lack of any clear and planned plan to return them, looks with aspiration to the new Governor, Mr. Karim Saeed, hoping that all concerned will cooperate constructively with him so that he can establish the beginning of solutions that restore confidence to depositors in their certain right to recover their lifetime's earnings and compensation," Al-Asmar concluded.
