Lebanon to respond to US demands on Hezbollah disarmament in coming days
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri will be responsible for reaching an agreement with Hezbollah, given his strong ties with the organization. Lebanon is expected to deliver on Monday a response to a recent United States document of demands, including, among other things, the disarmament of the terrorist organization Hezbollah. Additionally, calls within Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah have been intensifying, along with growing concern that if the current efforts fail, Israeli strikes in the area may increase and potentially lead to another round of fighting. US envoy Thomas Barrack delivered his country's document of demands during his most recent visit to Lebanon last month. In addition to demands regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah, the US also called for the advancement of economic reforms in Lebanon, as well as the regulation of Lebanon-Syria relations, including the demarcation and supervision of the border between the two countries and the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. In recent days, discussions among Lebanon's leadership have accelerated to formulate a unified response to the Americans. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri will be responsible for reaching an agreement with Hezbollah, given his strong ties with the organization. According to Saudi channelAl-Sharq, part of the clause concerning Hezbollah's disarmament includes Israel's withdrawal from one of the five points it controls in southern Lebanon in exchange for Hezbollah handing over its weapons located in the area between the Litani River and the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon. After that, Israel will withdraw from another point, while in parallel, Hezbollah would surrender its weapons arsenal in Beirut, including the Dahiya district. Another report by the Saudi Al-Hadath channel claimed that Hezbollah never explicitly stated it would give up its weapons, as it views the US document as a surrender agreement. However, sources noted that Lebanese officials agree that organizations should no longer hold weapons outside the control of the state, and the country will not be dragged into further destruction by any party. The report also said that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun asked Hezbollah about a month ago to hand over its missiles to the Lebanese army, but Hezbollah has not yet responded. According to Lebanon's Al-Jadeed channel, Hezbollah has submitted its response to the demands and maintains its commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, emphasizing that Israel must implement that agreement. The report also stated that Hezbollah is only willing to discuss disarmament within the framework of a national defense strategy or as part of an internal Lebanese dialogue. 'The hope of Lebanon is awakening!' US envoy Barak wrote on X/Twitter. 'The opportunity is now. This is a historic moment to supersede the strained confessionalism of the past and finally fulfill Lebanon's true promise of the hope of 'One country, one people, one army.' As President Donald Trump has consistently shared with the world, "Lebanon is a great place, with great people. Let's make Lebanon Great again.' The Muslim world marked Ashura on Saturday, a day of special importance for Shiites. Since the beginning of the month, religious ceremonies have been held in Beirut's Dahiya district in preparation for the day, and on some days, speeches by Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem were broadcast on large screens at the main event in Dahiya. In his speeches, Qassem addressed the pressures on his organization to disarm, claiming the weapons are for the defense of Lebanon. Therefore, he said, only if Israel withdraws from southern Lebanon and halts its attacks there should an internal Lebanese discussion on Hezbollah disarmament even be considered. He also repeatedly urged Lebanese leaders to pressure the international community to force Israel to uphold the ceasefire. 'Demand an end to aggression, not the surrender of the Lebanese,' he declared in his speech.

Reports: Aoun and Berri warn Hezbollah over US paper as Arabs talk to Iran
by Naharnet Newsdesk 05 July 2025, 15:51 The ongoing Arab contacts for finalizing Lebanon's response to the U.S. paper intensified over the past hours and involved Iran, a diplomatic source told Al-Jadeed TV on Saturday. Al-Arabiya's Al-Hadath channel earlier reported that the Lebanese Presidency "sent a warning to Hezbollah in the morning on the need to send a response to (U.S. envoy Tom) Barrack's ideas." Speaker Nabih Berri for his part told Hezbollah that if it did not respond, Lebanese leaders, including him, would answer the U.S. without Hezbollah's input on the matter, Al-Hadath added. Aoun, Berri and PM Nawaf Salam "agree that the era of arms outside the state is over," the TV network quoted sources as saying. The three leaders "agreed not to allow any side to drag Lebanon into destruction," the sources added. Al-Jadeed later reported that Aoun, Berri and Salam would meet at the Baabda Palace later Saturday to "put the final touches on the response to Barrack's proposal."

PM inaugurates preparations for 3rd Intel Conference of Great Prophet in Sana'a
Sana'a - Saba: Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi on Sunday inaugurated preparations for the third International Conference of the Great Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), organized by the Charity Association for the Education of the Holy Quran. The conference aims to reaffirm the Prophet's pivotal role in shaping identity, history, and civilization, drawing inspiration from the Holy Quran. During the inauguration, Prime Minister al-Rahawi underscored the conference's significance in upholding Yemeni identity and history, stressing adherence to the Prophet's biography, his moral example, and his divine approach to state-building and jihad for the sake of Allah. He asserted that the Prophet left nothing of human interest untaught, necessitating universal adherence to his teachings. Al-Rahawi sharply criticized what he termed the "nonsense and things that Wahhabism has introduced to Islam," accusing it of distorting true religion by adding elements "Allah has not revealed from a Sultan." He lamented the nation's past period of "loss" and deviation from true Islamic values, which he argued led to weakness, disintegration, isolation, and internal strife. He stated, "We have come to see the brother as an enemy and the obvious enemy as a friend, and the word Zionist enemy has even disappeared from the vocabulary of most Arab and Islamic Media." The Prime Minister voiced deep distress over the nation's current helplessness in supporting the people of Gaza, who he said have been subjected to extermination by the Zionist enemy for over 21 months and denied basic necessities. The Premier commended the "strong response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Zionist aggression," highlighting Iran's missiles "that pound all Zionist military and vital sites and installations and force the Zionists to stay in shelters over the past days until today." Al-Rahawi contrasted this with what he described as the Zionist security and deterrence force's previous regional control, now "shot down by Iranian missiles within a few days." He further lambasted certain Arab media, particularly Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath channels, for defending the Zionist enemy "more than the Hebrew channels" by promoting "crude and shameful statements of Israeli war criminals and their false and misleading narratives. He concluded that such media performance confirms their alignment with the Zionist enemy and Western colonial imperialism. First Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Miftah echoed these sentiments, stressing the nation's dire need for such intellectual and cultural events to reconnect with its source of glory. Miftah warned that Arabs and Muslims are being distracted by a current of decay and global moral decay spearheaded by the international Zionist system, which seeks to distort the nation's compass, direct hostility towards Iran, and divert attention from the real and historical enemy represented by the Zionist entity. He characterized attempts by Arab Zionists to justify Israeli attacks on Iran and question Iran's response as efforts to deceive the nation into viewing Iran as the enemy, despite their shared civilization and history. Miftah provided historical context of Israeli aggression since 1948, highlighting its wars and occupations, contrasting it with Iran's historical contributions to Islamic civilization in various scientific and intellectual fields. He accused Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain of financing massacres in Gaza and aggression in Yemen and Iran, and of openly funding America. Minister of Education and Scientific Research Hassan al-Saadi also emphasized the nation's need to draw lessons from the Prophet's history and biography, recognizing Yemen's unique historical connection to the Prophet's teachings. Dr. Al-Qasim Abbas, Chairman of the conference, outlined the event's vision and goals, stating it aims to strengthen the Yemeni people's close connection with the Holy Prophet and deepen the nation's bond by presenting his leadership and Quranic methodology across cultural, social, political, economic, and educational domains. He called upon academics and researchers from Yemeni, Arab, and Islamic universities and research centers to contribute their scientific output to the conference, which will focus on extrapolating the Great Prophet's personality and guiding the nation towards the victory of the Palestinian cause. Saudi-Owned Al-Hadath News Outlet: Hizbullah To Intervene In Israel-Iran War If It Perceives Iranian Regime To Be In Danger
On June 18, 2025, Saudi Arabia's Al-Hadath News outlet posted a quote on its X account from "a source close to Hizbullah" which stated that Hizbullah would intervene in the war being waged between Iran and Israel "only if it perceives that the [Iranian] regime is beginning to waver."[1] The above image appeared with the Al-Hadath post on X (Source: June 18, 2025) On the following day, on its website, Al-Hadath posted additional quotes from the same source, according to which Hizbullah was supposed to play a more significant role in the war between Iran and Israel, but the blows that the organization received in its most-recent round of fighting with Israel have prevented it from doing so. According to the source, it is the developments in the Iran-Israel war which will determine whether there is a need for Hizbullah's intervention. The website commented that if Hizbullah did join the fighting alongside Iran, this would mean that it would use "its heavy weapons." The source stated that the organization "still has capabilities." It also said that "the elimination of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps would unequivocally mean the end of Hizbullah." The website further quoted "a source familiar with Hizbullah's way of thinking" which claimed that Iran can cope alone with the current confrontation, without the help of its allies, which is why Hizbullah is currently adopting a "wait and see" approach to the situation.[2] The above image depicts the funerals in Beirut of several members of Hizbullah (Source: June 19, 2025)

Houthis Say '1000 Leaders' in Store Amid Israel Assassination Strike Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A source within Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, has told Newsweek that the group would persist in its battle with Israel after reports that Israeli forces carried out a targeted strike against senior figures at a meeting. The Israeli attack, which comes amid an unprecedented exchange of strikes between Israel and Ansar Allah's Axis of Resistance coalition ally, Iran, was reported by a number of Israeli outlets as well as Saudi Arabia's Al-Hadath network. The reports cited unnamed sources suggesting that the target was Ansar Allah military Chief of Staff Mohammed Abdel Karim al-Ghamari. Al-Hadath also reported that Ansar Allah-led Supreme Political Council President Mahdi al-Mashat was also in attendance at the meeting. Their fates have yet to be confirmed. The Ansar Allah source with whom Newsweek spoke to declined to discuss the details of the strike but affirmed that the group was prepared to move forward with its missile and drone campaign against Israel even in the case of losing high-level leaders. "We are all projects of martyrdom, and we are not afraid of being targeted," the Ansar Allah source said. "Every leader is succeeded by a thousand leaders." Newsweek has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment. Ansar Allah has fired dozens of missiles and drones at Israel since October 2023, intervening in support of the Palestinian Hamas movement after it launched a surprise attack on Israel. The ensuing conflict sparked a still-ongoing war that has spread across the Middle East, drawing in Iran and allies non-state allies across the region. Rising tensions over the conflict took a dramatic new turn this week when Israel launched a sweeping and unprecedented series of strikes across Iran. The operating, dubbed "Rising Lion," has involved hundreds of attacks targeting facilities and personnel tied to Iran's armed forces and nuclear program. This is a breaking news story. Updates to follow.
