Woman fined Dhs20,000 for insulting another woman via WhatsApp in Al Ain
Al Ain Court of First Instance obligated a woman to pay Dhs20,000 to another woman for insulting her via WhatsApp. The defendant had been convicted of this charge in a previous lawsuit. The plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the defendant in which she requested the court to obligate the latter to pay her Dhs100,000 in compensation for the material and moral harms she had befallen plus the fees and expenses. The plaintiff pleaded that the defendant had verbally abused her via WhatsApp and had already been convicted of this charge in a previous lawsuit, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal. As she had suffered several harms due to what the defendant did, the plaintiff was prompted to file this lawsuit with the aforementioned requests. The court explained that the defendant's error was proven and resulted in psychological, moral and material harms to the plaintiff. As there was a causal relationship between the error and the harm, the defendant is legally obligated to compensate the plaintiff for those harms. The court thereby estimated the compensation due to the plaintiff at Dhs20,000.

Al Ain court fines man Dhs15,000 for insulting woman via WhatsApp
The Al Ain Court of First Instance obligated a man to pay a woman Dhs15,000 in compensation for the moral damages she suffered after he had insulted her by sending audio recordings via WhatsApp. The case dated back to a lawsuit filed by the woman against the defendant, in which she requested that he be obligated to pay her Dhs50,000 in compensation for the harms she suffered along with the fees and expenses. In support of her claim, the plaintiff stated that the defendant insulted her through audio recordings sent via WhatsApp and that the defendant had been convicted of this incident by a criminal judgment. As she suffered financial and moral harms, she was prompted to file this lawsuit, the plaintiff said, adding that in support of her claim, she submitted copies of the criminal judgment and a certificate issued by the Public Prosecution stating that it was not appealed. The dispute was presented to the competent office, where the plaintiff and defendant were present. The defendant stated that due to disagreements that arose between both parties, he intervened to reconcile them and that his intervention did not contain any threat to the plaintiff. The defendant then submitted a memo in which he explained the facts of the dispute and the dialogue taking place between both parties. Accordingly, the supervising judge decided to refer the case to this court after it had been prepared in full. The court explained that it was evident from reviewing the criminal judgment that the defendant had been convicted of the charge of insulting and threatening the plaintiff and that the latter suffered moral harms because the defendant hurt her feelings and caused her to experience panic and fear. Based on the above, the defendant is legally obligated to compensate the plaintiff for those harms and the compensation is estimated at Dhs15,000, which is believed to be sufficient to redress all the moral harms that the plaintiff suffered.
