Police Academy to participate in Basel Tattoo Military Festival
QNA Doha The Police Academy is participating for the first time in the Basel Tattoo Military Festival, which will kick off on July 11 in the Swiss city of Basel. This festival is considered one of the most prominent international festivals specialising in military and musical performances. The festival is being held under the patronage of the Swiss Federal Department of Defence and under the supervision of the Competence Center of Swiss Military Music. Approximately 1.3 million viewers from across Europe watch it live each year. In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior said that the academy is preparing for a distinguished participation in this festival with a team of 44 students from the Police College. The band have undergone two months of intensive training to deliver a performance that reflects an honorable image of Qatar and enhances its cultural and media presence on the international stage. Head of the military parade committee Captain Abdullah Ahmed Al Subaie emphasised that preparations focused on mastering motor and performative skills, as well as utilising music and silent movements in a contemporary style that matched the event's scale. He noted that it featured precise synchronisation between the silent infantry performance and the musical pieces performed by the Police Music Band, comprised of 67 musicians, providing a comprehensive audio-visual experience. Al Subaie explained that the participation comes within the framework of the Academy's commitment to representing the country in international events and highlighting the level of professionalism and discipline that distinguishes its members, a result of continuous training and specialized qualification. He noted that the team has previously participated in graduation ceremonies of batches of Police College students, in addition to its contributions to various national and community events.

Qatar supports int'l efforts to protect water bodies: Subaie
QNA Paris Minister of Environment and Climate Change HE Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie has affirmed the State of Qatar's commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at protecting water bodies and ensuring the sustainability of their resources. The minister highlighted the importance of international cooperation to address the growing challenges threatening the health of marine ecosystems. In a speech delivered at the third edition of the United Nations Ocean Conference, hosted by the French city of Nice over five days, the minister explained that water bodies are the lifeblood of the planet and play a fundamental role in regulating the climate, providing food, and ensuring environmental and economic security. However, they face unprecedented pressures that require an urgent global response. He noted that the State of Qatar strongly supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 14, which concerns the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources, emphasizing that the health of these water bodies represents a fundamental pillar in supporting countries' ability to achieve long-term economic and social development. Al Subaie reviewed the most prominent environmental initiatives adopted by the State of Qatar, including treating and recycling 100 percent of wastewater to at least the third level, preventing the discharge of treated wastewater into the sea, and reusing it for irrigation of green spaces, cooling, and industrial purposes. He also highlighted the launch of the Third National Development Strategy (2024), which aims to protect 30 percent of marine areas and restore 30 percent of degraded natural habitats by 2030. He also highlighted the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's 2024-2030 Strategy, announced last November, which includes ambitious goals, most notably protecting 30 percent of island and coastal areas, ensuring the restoration of degraded habitats, and protecting endemic and endangered species. He also highlighted the implementation of more than 100 environmental projects that promote green development and the circular economy, enhance the use of recycled resources, and consolidate environmental sustainability practices in the areas of infrastructure, energy, and land use. Concluding his speech, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change affirmed that the State of Qatar continues to support innovation in combating climate change and is working to develop adaptation measures in cooperation with relevant authorities. He emphasized that global environmental challenges require concerted international efforts to protect oceans and seas, considering them a shared resource and a collective responsibility.

Qatar strengthens global role in addressing environmental challenges, says Al Subaie
QNA Doha Qatar is strengthening its global role in addressing growing environmental challenges, most notably plastic pollution, and strongly supports the path to sustainable development, Minister of Environment and Climate Change HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie has affirmed. He pointed out that World Environment Day represents an important international occasion to renew collective commitment to protecting planet Earth and promoting the concept of environmental sustainability. In press statements on the occasion of World Environment Day, which is observed on June 5, the minister said the theme of this year, 'Putting an End to Plastic Pollution', reflects the importance of unifying international efforts to combat this phenomenon, calling for a just international agreement aimed at reducing plastic pollution, taking into account the circumstances of developing countries and their rights to development. He pointed out that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is implementing a package of policies and initiatives to reduce plastic pollution, as part of its commitment to the principles of sustainable development and achieving a better environmental quality of life for current and future generations. The ministry is also continuing its efforts regionally and internationally in compliance with multilateral environmental agreements, he noted. 'Qatar is working on developing an infrastructure that supports recycling operations by sorting waste at the source, collecting it, processing it, and converting it into reusable products, with the goal of reducing dependence on natural resources and enhancing their efficient use,' he added. Dr. Al Subaie also pointed out that the ministry launched several initiatives in this regard, including encouraging investment in the establishment of specialised recycling centres and developing legislative and regulatory frameworks to ensure the sustainability of these operations, in cooperation with various government and private entities. He highlighted Qatar's active participation in the sessions of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) for a legally binding international instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, pointing out that Qatar presented its vision at the fifth session held in 2024 in Busan, South Korea, during a side event on ending plastic pollution. During the event, the minister emphasised the importance of enabling developing countries to access modern recycling technologies, which will enhance environmental justice and contribute to achieving the goals of the anticipated international agreement. 'Prior to this session, the ministry organised a regional meeting in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), during which representatives of the GCC countries participated in the meeting to discuss the proposed wording of the legal instrument,' Dr. Al Subaie said, adding that a unified Gulf position was prepared, which was later adopted as a joint Arab position. He also pointed out that the ministry has implemented several projects in cooperation with international bodies, including the international Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to develop environmental monitoring programs and monitor plastic particles in the marine environment, as part of the regional project 'RAS7038.' The minister reiterated Qatar's commitment to implementing its national and international environmental pledges, in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030, by promoting sustainable environmental policies, supporting environmental innovation, and expanding international also stressed that combating plastic pollution requires concerted global efforts to create a balanced and safe environment for current and future generations.
