RESIDENT ALIEN Recap: (S04E04) Truth Hurts
Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 4, 'Truth Hurts,' sees Harry endure the pains of love as a product of telling the truth. As it turns out, navigating a relationship with an alien and your alien babies is pretty damn hard when you're human. The outing is a bit slower, but it fleshes out our core character dynamics and, at least for Kate, plants the narrative seeds for what's to come. Plus, Alan Tudyk and Edi Patterson are comedic perfection together. RELATED: Read our recap of the previous Resident Alien episode, 'Ties That Bind' Resident Alien, 'Truth Hurts' We open with a flashback to 20 years ago, at the Hawthorne house. Young Ben is hosting a rager. D'arcy, who was recently away from town doing her skiing thang, confesses that she likes Ben. Not 'likes' him — like likes him. They kiss. Suddenly, Judy stumbles out of the front door while attempting to drag a keg. The cops are on their way to bust the party. Aw, nuts. In the present day, Harry (Tudyk) reckons with being the father of more children. Heather (Patterson) is in her Blue Avian form. Harry's attraction to her in this form has waned significantly to … nonexistent. She nonchalantly informs him that she killed the Mantid. His corpse is outside. Heather offers some of his guts to Harry, which Harry politely declines. It could be romantic. Sure, she'll only have one vagina, but if it's what Harry wants… RELATED: TV Review: Resident Alien Season 4 Later, Asta (Sara Tomko) and D'arcy (Alice Wetterlund) chat with Kayla (Sarah Podemski) at the diner. She's now up to date on all the alien madness, including Heather slaughtering the Mantid. Kayla's irritated that Asta has left her out of the loop for so long. She almost spills the alien secret to Jay (Kaylayla Raine), who's working a shift at the diner. Side note: Where's everyone's favorite dad, Dan? I demand to see him. Anyway, D'arcy reveals they're heading to Harry's cabin to bury the Mantid. They invite Kayla to join them, but she opts out. As it turns out, burying alien corpses isn't on her bucket list. Meanwhile, Mike (Corey Reynolds) describes the Mantid to Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) in intricate detail as she sketches the (now dead) creature. Liv captures his likeness so well, even though she doesn't quite understand the physicality of one who catches their roommate wearing their favorite jeans. Metal Sasquatch Liv asks Mike if he's talked to Lena yet about an alien being behind the murders. He's working his way up to it. Then, our dynamic duo learns about a strange 'sasquatch' sighting in the woods. Mike tells Liv to ensure Peter, our resident cyborg Terminator, remains hidden from the general public. RELATED: 10 Out-of-This-World Predictions for Resident Alien Season 4 Then, Asta and D'arcy pay Harry a visit. They meet his bird alien kiddos. After Heather emerges from the bedroom, Bridget tries to consume one of said bird alien kiddos. Thankfully, Harry pulls the child out before they become part of the contents of Bridget's stomach. Harry literally kicks Bridget out the door, which made me laugh louder than it should have. What a good dad. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Truth Hurts' Season 4 Episode 4 — Pictured: (l-r) Alice Wetterlund as D'Arcy Bloom, Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) After this, Asta and D'arcy watch in horror as Heather 'breastfeeds' by vomiting what looks like a green smoothie into a bag. Yum. Harry appears unwell. When it seems like Harry might disclose his human status to Heather, the two engage in foreplay instead. They put on a show for D'arcy and Asta. Patterson and Tudyk are hilariously electric together. So funny. Deep Hole Judy Later, Asta and D'arcy enlist the aid of Judy (Jenna Lamia), who's apparently an expert gravedigger from her time working in the cemetery. 'Deep Hole Judy,' they called her. Deep Hole Judy sings a merry tune while she digs. (She doesn't know who's going in the hole, though.) RELATED: All Is Not Well in Patience in Resident Alien Season 4 Trailer At the same time, Ben (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson) both guess how D'arcy is involved with the aliens. Kate suspects she is an alien, while Ben proposes she was abducted. Kate pivots, wondering if the Greys kidnapped D'arcy's baby while she was pregnant. They decide to approach D'arcy about it, while treading carefully, of course. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Truth Hurts' Season 4 Episode 4 — Pictured: (l-r) Nicola Correia-Damude as Detective Lena Torres, Corey Reynolds as Sheriff Mike Thompson — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Elsewhere, Mike and Lena (Nicola Correia-Damude) go on a walk. Mike finally divulges his truth — he believes in aliens. Not only that, but he saw an alien feasting on a deer in the woods. He describes the Mantid to Lena. She's incredulous. So, a praying mantis-type alien is behind all the murders? This drives a wedge between Mike and Lena (understandably so). Have You Watched Any Documentaries Lately? Later, Asta and D'arcy prepare to bury the Mantid after Judy dug a perfect hole with startlingly accurate dimensions. Judy has a gift. The following day, Ben and Kate meander into The 59. They try to casually — and subtly — address the alien-shaped elephant in the room. Kate claims she and Ben watched an alien documentary the other day about a race of aliens who abducted babies from their mothers' wombs. Does this resonate with D'arcy? RELATED: New TV Shows This Week (June 22 – 28) Ben reminds D'arcy about when she told him he'd been abducted by aliens. At one point, D'arcy pretends to be offended by what the Hawthornes are telling her. She excuses herself to 'get some air.' However, she's secretly panicking because Kate and Ben are clearly aware of Daisy's existence. Meanwhile, Asta finds Harry in his office with her coat. Being human sucks; he's perpetually cold. Asta learns that Harry hasn't told Heather yet about losing his alien energy. She encourages him to tell her the truth. Relationships are about honesty and transparency. She also calls Harry out on referring 90 percent of his patients to the other doctor while keeping his therapy sessions open. Harry admits it's tough having to contend with a puny human brain. Truth Hurts and Heals Then, D'arcy pops by with a revelation: Ben and Kate know their baby, well, exists. Harry reveals Kate opened up about her child during a hypnosis session. D'arcy believes they should tell the Hawthornes about Daisy. However, Asta and Harry push back, claiming the Greys will ultimately abduct the child again when they take Kate. This doesn't sit well with D'arcy. RELATED: The Premise and How Star Trek Fans Created Fanfic as We Know It Elsewhere, Liv and John (Trevor Carroll) set up a camera at the spot where Mike saw the Mantid in the woods. Liv is admittedly envious that everyone is seeing aliens but her. She still can't believe John saw the Loch Ness Monster. (Love this Nessie confirmation on Resident Alien .) Harry finally bares his soul to Heather — he's fully human now. The Greys stole his alien energy. Heather is accepting of this. In fact, she proposes to Harry, calling him the love of her life. Harry admits something else: He doesn't find her Blue Avian form attractive anymore. Heather's fine with remaining a human, if that makes him happy. He Said Yes Harry says yes to the proposal. Huzzah! They embrace, and Heather confesses that it'll be tricky navigating the familial waters, since her parents are quite racist against humans, but they'll make it work. After this, the pair dives into potential colors for their wedding. Heather's maid of honor will be her sister, while Harry names Asta his best man. Aw. I love their friendship. RELATED: Read our SurrealEstate recaps Suddenly, Heather's father arrives. He ain't happy about his baby girl marrying a human. He attacks Harry. Elsewhere, D'arcy is closing up the pub when Ben slips in to confront her. He realizes D'arcy might not have felt comfortable disclosing her truth to Kate, but he and Darce go waaay back. She can tell him the truth. Is there anything about aliens that Ben should know? Particularly related to his multiple abductions? D'arcy's face changes, but she remains resolute. She doesn't divulge Daisy's location. Ben asks her again. It's clear he knows she's withholding something. Ugh, I wish D'arcy knew that Ben and Kate removed their chips. After Ben departs, D'arcy calls Judy, in need of a drinking buddy. As it turns out, Judy has been in the bar this whole time. Well, this is following her dad's violent confrontation with Harry. Harry believes Heather deserves to be her true self with someone who loves her. She shouldn't have to hide her alien form just because Harry finds it repulsive. Heather doesn't want to part ways, but she understands. She asks Harry to recite his favorite poem in the language of his people one last time. It tugs at the heartstrings with its series of screeches and moans. She might not understand his belief in aliens, but she loves him anyway. Yes, they both say the l-word to each other. Awww. Mike advises Lena to exercise caution while delving into this murder investigation. Aliens are not to be trifled with. After Heather and the babies leave, Asta comforts Harry. He's experiencing his first heartbreak as a full-fledged human — one with a dairy allergy. He wonders if he'll always feel this way. Asta reassures him that it gets better. I love these two so much. Max tells his mom he plans to get ice cream with Sahar. They embrace before going their separate ways. Kate decides to purchase Girl Scout Cookies from a local troop. The Greys possess the girl as she informs Kate that they'll always find her. She can't hide from the Greys. They're everywhere. Watch: Alan Tudyk wears stilts to talk with 'Kimmel' guest host Diego Luna
June 25 (UPI) -- Alan Tudyk joined guest host Diego Luna on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss his struggles with wearing stilts during the filming of their movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the prequel series Andor. Tudyk came out wearing the stilts he used to portray reprogrammed Imperial security droid K-2SO alongside Luna's Cassian Andor. "I am very comfortable in stilts," Tudyk said. Luna asked the actor if he had any trouble acting while wearing the stilts. "You know what the hardest thing was? You know the bathrooms? They would have those trailers -- so, getting up the stairs, which were very narrow, and then when I walked in, I could see over all of the stalls. Just going by. So I was just going, 'Hey, Roy. Hey.' Everybody's on their phone, it was weird," Tudyk recalled. "And then when I was at the urinal, next to somebody else, it was -- that was a long stream. That was a long way down, buddy," he said. Luna pointed out that Tudyk has played multiple robots in his career. "Some people bring humanity to their roles, I bring a sort of mechanized detachment," Tudyk joked. "A cold, calculating, sterile quality. I was the robot in I, Robot. I was Sonny. And then I'm the robot in Superman that's coming out. There's been a few." Luna suggested Tudyk is a kind of "royalty." "I am robot royalty," Tudyk agreed. "When the robots take over, I may either be their chosen one, or the first one they kill, I don't know." Andor concluded in May after two seasons on Disney+. Adria Arjona, who starred with Luna and Tudyk on the show, recalled her audition for the series Monday on Kimmel.

‘Resident Alien' Season 4 Review: 'It's Good To Be Back'
RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Prisoners' Episode 401 — Pictured: (l-r) Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle, Paul Piaskowski as Robert — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) If you were like me, you were a little nervous that SYFY's Resident Alien wasn't going to get a season four after some months had passed after season three's finale, since we didn't have word of a renewal. Then, it was announced that season four would be premiering on USA Network instead of the SYFY channel and we all collectively cheered. Who cared if it was switching networks, as long as we were getting more of this great show. After watching the premiere episode of season four, we can say that you can't tell there was a network change. This still feels like the Resident Alien we know and love and it's good to have Harry and the crew back. Season three ended with a lot going on, with the biggest cliffhanger being that the real Harry was stuck on the moon, while Mantid was on Earth, assuming Harry's shape. What to Expect Does season 4 start with a bang? No. Instead, it's a gentle slide back into the world of Resident Alien. A gentle reminder of who the players are, what we're dealing with, and the pressures at stake. The show extends its reach, where minor characters become more important to the overarching story, as opposed to background characters. In a way, it reminds me of when everyone finally found out about zombies in iZombie. Everyone knows about aliens, even if Sheriff Mike denies it; which, makes everyone working together more feasible and easier. Alan Tudyk is a True Character Actor The biggest takeaway of this episode is how good of a job Alan Tudyk does at playing both Harry and Mantid. As Mantid, he's a chain-smoking cool guy who likes assuming the role of Harry within the town, but is also disinterested in the idea of replicating Harry's personality to a T. However, due to Harry being a bit odd at all times, Mantid's change of behavior is hardly noticed, even by his closest friends. We then have the real Harry, who never disappoints, caught between being genuinely poignant and just wanting pizza. The Standouts Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv's partnership continues to be a standout of the show, with their moments in episode one sticking out in second place to Harry's storyline. We have the deeply stubborn Sheriff denying the existence of aliens, even after personally encountering one. Then we have Liv, who is always kind and optimistic. At this point, she knows how to get through to Mike, and it was good to see that she did so in one episode, so we have him on board moving forward. Of course, Asta and D'Arcy provided some good moments in this episode, with a heavy emphasis on D'Arcy's growing bond with Kate's baby. These moments definitely add deeper layers to D'Arcy, who has gone through her own troubles over the last couple of seasons. While Asta doesn't take as big of a role in episode 1, we do see Kate and Ben preparing for the next alien invasion, with some funny mishaps involving these two throughout the first episode. It's a Good Start Overall, episode 1 was a good introduction to the new season that lays down the groundwork for the rest of the episodes. Episode 1 ends with a well-deserved standoff, and we can't wait to see what sort of hijinks this season has in store for us.

RESIDENT ALIEN Recap: (S04E03) Ties That Bind
Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 3, 'Ties That Bind,' sees Harry and D'arcy travel back in time to retrieve a special device. It's also McCallister's swan song — I assume. The outing wraps up McCallister's overarching narrative and gives her closure. It's a touching meditation on nurturing and healing your inner child. Beyond that, Kate remembers D'arcy being on the Greys' Moon base, Heather kills the Mantid (RIP) and Harry learns he has more kids. (Time to work more hours at the clinic.) It's a solid episode, although Mike's change of heart regarding aliens will take time to get used to. RELATED: Read our recap of the previous Resident Alien episode, 'The Lonely Man' Resident Alien, 'Ties That Bind' We open in a time long past, with an Indigenous woman telling her daughter about the Star People. The girl marvels at a painted handprint on the rock wall. Kayla (Sarah Podemski) provides narration. She reads to Daisy, Ben and Kate's baby, from a comic book titled Sky . The handprint from the rock wall in the past is emblazoned across the painting behind Kayla. Next, Dale (Linden Porco) returns to help Harry (Alan Tudyk) open a time travel portal. Well, he came at D'arcy's (Alice Wetterlund) behest, not Harry's. Dale carries a torch for the Red Menace. He's not moving as quickly as Harry would like. Our resident alien plans to travel back to the '70s to retrieve the alien tech that General McCallister (Linda Hamilton) found at the end of last week's episode. Harry hopes to trade it with the Greys for his alien energy. Asta's Appendage D'arcy wants to accompany Harry and Asta (Sara Tomko) on this time travel excursion, but Asta puts her foot down. That is, until Harry selects D'arcy to join him over Asta. D'arcy isn't afraid to die, and Harry can hide behind her if things get too scary. RELATED: TV Review: Resident Alien Season 4 Meanwhile, Sahar (Gracelyn Awad Rinke) presents her (presumably patent pending) Manticide Spray to the Alien Tracker Club. Max (Judah Prehn) arrives fashionably late. He isn't a fan of Sahar, who's technically the secretary, starting the meeting without him, the president. Oh, and she told the group about the Mantid. Max tries to rally the crew to take down the Mantid with him; however, they all like their heads. Better to keep them than allow the Mantid to munch on them for lunch. At the same time, Judy (Jenna Lamia) is being interviewed for a news segment after a headless man (courtesy of the Mantid) was discovered at her motel. D'arcy watches Judy while counting out change in The 59. Asta tries to persuade D'arcy not to go with Harry through the time travel portal. However, D'arcy's made up her mind. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Ties That Bind' Season 4 Episode 3 — Pictured: Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle — (Photo by: James Dittiger/Bravo) Funeral Song Later, Harry and D'arcy arrive in the '70s. Unfortunately, they're dressed a little too period-accurate, so they change clothes. They find their way to the beach, where Harry retraces the night McCallister's father spotted the alien ship. He at least has an idea of where the alien tech landed. During all this, he serenades D'arcy with an homage to a fallen comrade. It's a series of squeals and screeches. Well, it's quite pretty if you know the language. RELATED: 10 Out-of-This-World Predictions for Resident Alien Season 4 While on the beach, our duo runs into McCallister, who's chatting with her father. Howard (Michael Adamthwaite). McCallister excuses herself, telling her dad, who doesn't know he's talking to his adult daughter from the future, that she's gonna catch up with her friends. Harry demands that McCallister give him the alien tech. She refuses, claiming it's for her father. She heads out for her shift at the Lobster Shack. Harry observes as she conceals the alien tech in her purse. Meanwhile, in the present, Kate (Meredith Garretson) informs Ben (Levi Fiehler) that she had her tracking chip — courtesy of the Greys — removed. Now that they know their daughter is on Earth, she's okay with relinquishing the chip. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Ties That Bind' Season 4 Episode 3 — Pictured: (l-r) Meredith Garretson as Kate Hawthorne, Levi Fiehler as Mayor Ben Hawthorne — (Photo by: James Dittiger/Bravo) I Believe in Aliens Ben insists they bring Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) into the fold. He knows she believes in aliens. Kate doesn't like this idea. After all, Liv will pass this on to Mike (Corey Reynolds), who unequivocally doesn't believe in aliens. Just kidding — he does! Mike shares his theory with Liv that Joseph is behind all the headless bodies. Liv is ecstatic. Her boss is finally Team Alien. Don't make a big deal out of it, though, deputy. RELATED: All Is Not Well in Patience in Resident Alien Season 4 Trailer Later, Kayla sits with Daisy while listening to Kate's voicemail. She notices how Daisy reacts to Kate's voice. Then, she shows the baby girl a photo of Kate. Daisy squeals with glee. Hmm. Kayla visits Asta at the clinic. She demands to know if Daisy is Ben and Kate's baby. After Kayla stares into Asta's soul, Asta discloses the truth — all of it. She cracks under the pressure. Tomko is so funny in this scene. Kayla's now up to date on all the alien weirdness. She even clocks Harry as an alien. To be fair, if anyone would be an extraterrestrial, it would be Harry Vanderspeigle. Kayla and Asta share a lovely family moment. It warms the cold cockles of my blackened heart. Lobsters and Diarrhea Next, in the '70s, Harry and D'arcy decide to eat at the Lobster Shack during McCallister's shift. D'arcy is taken aback by how inexpensive everything is. A lobster dinner for three bucks? Sign me up. D'arcy heads to the bathroom to pee out of her butt. However, this is merely a cover to search for the alien tech among McCallister's belongings. RELATED: New TV Shows This Week (June 15 – 21) McCallister sits with Harry. She explains that she wants to give the tech to her dad as proof that aliens are real. In one hour, government agents will speak with her father about what he saw. They'll denigrate his testimony and make him feel small. With the tech, this gives him enough ammo to prove he's telling the truth. Harry offers to kill the agents instead, but McCallister insists they'll simply send more. Shiny In the present, Lena (Nicola Correia-Damude) introduces Jules Gardner (Jewel Staite) to the group at the sheriff's office. Hey, we've got a mini Firefly reunion. Shiny. Here's hoping Staite shares a scene with Tudyk at some point. Jules attended school with Liv and Ben. Lena brought her into the fold because this headless bodies mystery is broaching serial killer territory. It's all hands on deck. Max watches them from afar, an idea brewing in his noggin. In the 1970s, an officer catches D'arcy trying to pry open McCallister's car. She flirts her way out of trouble, even laying on thick the vernacular of the time period for good measure. Oh, and her name is Meredith Grey. Did D'arcy just introduce Grey's Anatomy 35 years before its debut? Anyway, she finds Harry sitting in the driver's seat, the alien tech in hand. Uh-oh. Elsewhere, Mike hosts a defense class at the sheriff's office. Ben chats with Liv as the townsfolk demonstrate their physical prowess. He tries to subtly ask Liv about the investigation into Joseph. He inadvertently hints at aliens abducting Kate. Triggers Suddenly, Kate recalls a memory from her time on the Greys' Moon base. It triggers her. She starts punching the pad in Mike's hands. Realizing she's been triggered, Ben pulls her into an embrace. Kate tearfully tells Ben she's starting to remember. They frantically head toward the woods. Meanwhile, Harry and D'arcy are about to enter the portal to return to their time. Harry realizes he's holding a rock, not the alien tech. McCallister tricked them. Speaking of, McCallister sits with her dad after his meeting with the agents. He's discouraged. She reassures him of her unwavering belief in him. In fact, she saw the ship, too. Then, McCallister shows her father the alien tech. He's incredulous. How is this related to the ship? He tries to explain it away as something more reasonable. After he leaves, Mike explains what he saw to Liv, who clocks the creature as a Mantid. She's envious. Why is everyone seeing aliens but her? Now, her father's going to die regardless. She decides to stay in the 1970s because her younger self will need someone to take care of her. D'arcy advises McCallister to give her younger self the chance to step up to the plate. Perhaps little McCallister can make her father feel better. McCallister gives Harry the alien tech. Side note: Hamilton delivers a beautiful performance here. After D'arcy and Harry head back to the time travel portal, McCallister chats with her younger self, remarking that A Wrinkle in Time was her favorite book as a kid. Well, considering this book was released around 10ish years prior, I'm surprised little McCallister didn't question this. I Saw It, Too Anyway, McCallister tells her younger self that she, too, saw the alien ship. And she knows little McCallister bore witness to its passing as well. There are photos to prove it. She urges her baby self to reassure her father — tell him that she saw it all. That encouragement will help him immensely. Little McCallister corroborates her dad's story. They embrace. Thankfully, before our favorite alien tracker becomes headless, Heather (Edi Patterson), in her Blue Avian form, attacks the Mantid. Sahar and Asta stumble upon the scene, watching in disgust as Heather tears the Mantid to shreds. At the portal, D'arcy confronts Harry about something she learned from McCallister — that Harry knows the Greys will destroy his homeworld. That's what they'll do when he gives them the alien tech in exchange for his alien energy. And Harry seems perfectly fine with eradicating his race. He would be the only one left. He's going to find another way to retrieve what was taken from him. At the diner, McCallister's words ring in D'arcy's ears. McCallister is trying to heal her inner child and forgive her younger self for her mistakes. D'arcy could stand to forgive herself, too. Instead, D'arcy pours alcohol into her coffee and takes a sip. Meanwhile, Harry tries to reckon with being human, which includes his lactose intolerance. Heather winds up on his doorstep with a host of babies in a basket.
