Energy security: Global crude oil prices have remained relatively stable, says Hardeep Singh Puri; India eyes geothermal push

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri (Pic credit- ANI) Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday said that global crude oil prices have remained relatively stable despite persistent geopolitical tensions, suggesting that the world has sufficient energy resources to meet demand. 'There are many things that have an impact on crude prices. People say that if there is military conflict somewhere, it will have an impact, but there are many military conflicts, and prices are still between $65 and $70 per barrel,' Puri said on the sidelines of a national seminar on school education organised by the Council for Social Development, quoted ANI. 'My view is that there is enough energy available in the world. ' Puri's remarks come amid continued global uncertainty, with concerns over supply chains and energy inflation resurfacing in light of recent conflicts and climate events. The minister underlined India's growing engagement in global energy forums, pointing to the country's recent participation in the Opec seminar for the first time. 'It's basically a meeting of the Opec countries. Considering that we are now one of the largest consumers of crude oil in the world, it makes sense for us to be there,' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Adamantina (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Reflecting on his recent visit to Austria, Iceland, and Norway, Puri said India is actively looking to expand its clean energy footprint. During his stop in Iceland, he discussed geothermal cooperation with local companies. 'Iceland is very strong on geothermal, and we have ongoing collaborations with them. The advantage of going and talking to the private sector there is identifying future work that can be done,' Puri said. He also expressed a personal interest in integrating geothermal into India's broader energy mix and hinted at its potential inclusion in the India Energy Week platform. 'India Energy Week was launched three years ago and is now the second-largest global platform after ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi,' Puri said, the agency quoted. 'ADIPEC focuses on oil and gas, while we cover all forms of energy, including biofuels and green hydrogen. We intend to include geothermal energy as well.' Puri also cited recent milestones in domestic energy exploration. 'ONGC has drilled over 500 wells, the highest in the past 37 years,' he said, noting the financial risk involved in energy discovery. He referred to the example of Guyana, where 47 wells were drilled at $100 million each before a successful strike. 'We are digging more wells. I am only reporting to you the 18 wells on which, under our law, if somebody who is doing exploration and production finds some oil, they have to report to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons,' he said, reaffirming the regulatory safeguards in place to govern exploration activity in India. Manual scavenging: Junagadh officials face action for making man enter sewer

Rajkot: The talati and administrator of the Bhesan village panchayat in Junagadh district have been booked for allegedly making a sweeper enter an underground sewer, in violation of laws banning manual scavenging and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The FIR, registered at Bhesan police station, accuses the village talati J B Solanki and an administrator identified as Chavda. The complaint was filed by Dinesh Chohan, who was employed as a temporary sweeper with the panchayat for seven years. Chohan stated that on July 3, his brother Lalit and nephew Rutik and he were called by the two officials and directed to clean all clogged sewers in the village because of complaints of overflowing sewage. The officials allegedly told them that their salaries would be withheld if the task was not completed, and indicated that entering the sewers might be required. The three men began cleaning the sewers using equipment provided by the panchayat. During the process, they encountered a blockage in one sewer which could not be addressed unless someone physically entered the sewer. Dinesh Chohan entered the sewer, fearing that not doing so would lead to loss of pay or his job. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Itaocara (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo This was filmed by Rutik and later shared with community leaders in Gandhinagar. The community leaders urged Chohan to lodge a police complaint. Based on the complaint and video evidence, police registered a case under Sections 125 and 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the relevant provisions of the SC/ST Atrocities Act and the Employment of Manual Scavengers and its Prohibition Act.

Telangana cleans up voter rolls: 30,000 duplicates deleted via ERONET; voter ID-Aadhaar link hits 67%, says CEO C Sudarshan Reddy

Election Commission of India HYDERABAD: Telangana chief electoral officer C Sudarshan Reddy on Tuesday said that around 30,000 duplicate voters were deleted across the state as part of a voter list verification using Electoral Roll Officers' Network (ERONET) data from the Election Commission of India . In all, 58,000 duplicate records were identified both within constituencies in Telangana and across states, particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Digital integration "Booth level officers (BLOs) conducted house-to-house verification. Out of 58,000 duplicate entries, 30,000 were deleted. Voters found residing in Telangana were not touched," he said. Coordination is underway with AP and TN. Reddy said the ECI is introducing a cap of 1,200 voters per polling station. A mobile phone deposit facility will be made available at polling stations. Campaign booth distance will also be reduced from 200 metres to 100 metres. "Polling stations will be set up inside residential welfare associations and high-rise buildings. The polling station radius will be reduced from 2 km to 1 km," he said. The ECI is integrating its voter list system with the Registrar General of India to enable automatic deletion of deceased voters, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Macaé (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo "This linkage will be routed through the CEO's office to district-level birth and death registrars," he said. Reddy said the ECI's new digital platform, ECINET, will combine 40 applications and services under a single portal. Aadhaar Linkage He said voter ID-Aadhaar linkage in rural areas of Telangana has reached 84% while the overall linkage in the state was 67%. Around one lakh BLOs and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across India will be trained. "Twenty-six BLOs from Telangana will be trained at IIIDEM, Delhi. Monthly review meetings with state CEOs are also being held," he said.
