Driver swears by quirky gas station hack to save money when fueling up: ‘This was $30!'

Apparently, slow and steady fuels the wallet. A TikTokker claims that gently pumping gas boosts mileage and saves big bucks — but skeptics say her so-called 'fuel hack' is running on fumes. Alecia (@aleciaa2) swears by her slow-pour strategy in a now-viral video with over 1.3 million views, insisting it nearly doubled her driving range. But not everyone's buying what she's pumping. 'God bless the person that said when you're getting, or like when you're pumping your gas, to put it on the slow setting,' the video creator said in the June 23 video. 'So it doesn't cause those air bubbles.' Mid-clip, she dropped the receipts: a shot of her dash flashing a bold 522-mile range on just $30 of gas. Her car's little red icon sat smugly in the center console. She then gestured to the odometer and asked viewers, 'Do y'all see that? And this was $30. It usually takes me $60 to fill my tank to like 400 miles.' After dropping her gas-pump gospel, Alecia tried to credit the mystery TikTok prophet who changed her life — but drew a blank. 'I don't remember the creator, but God will bless you,' she said. Commenters were fired up, pumping out questions of their own: Could a slow squeeze at the pump really stretch your mileage — or is this just fumes and fairy tales? 'I am genuinely confused. Gas pumps measure fuel by volume using a flow meter. Air or foam does not add any volume. Can someone explain?' one commented. Someone replied to that comment, 'Pumping slowly can help reduce vapor loss and foaming, making your fill-up slightly more efficient and cleaner…' While there were skeptics in the comments section — there were also believers. This is a hack that some people swear by — while others are more skeptical of. – 'Mine added an extra 100 miles when I did it!!' one exclaimed as someone else added, 'also go at night or early morning when the ground is cooler!!' 'Worked for me this week. Usually takes 65-70 to even get to near full. I did it with 50,' one other noted. Another commented, 'I just did this yesterday lol it takes longer to fill, but it's worth it.' Others stressed that the hack isn't effective. 'I work for a fuel company. Trust me. It doesn't work like that but if it makes you feel better sure!' one wrote. An additional user chimed in, 'That has never worked for me I've tire this. This past weekend and got the same amount of gas.' One other weighed in, 'it doesn't work at every pump, but it's worth a try at every pump.' Several commenters pointed out that today's gas pumps aren't dummies — they charge you for the juice you get, not how fast you pump it. Sure, some vapor might vanish later in the tank, but during the fill-up? Not a chance. Mid-clip, she flaunted the 'proof': her dash lit up with a bold 522-mile range on just $30 of gas — while her car's red icon sat smug and self-satisfied. Tiktok/aleciaa2 According to Action News Jax, AAA pumped the brakes on the viral 'slow pour' hack too — backing social media skeptics and reminding drivers that gas tanks sit underground, safe from the hot air (and hot takes) fueling this myth. The AAA rep poured cold gas on the theory, saying vapor loss stems from sitting fuel and sizzling temps — not from your pump speed. As Action News Jax put it: the slow-pour pump hack is pure petrol fiction. As The Post reported last year, a sharp-eyed TikTok tipster dropped some gas station gospel — showing drivers how to sniff out sneaky credit card skimmers before they get swiped. The scam, which bleeds over a billion bucks a year, according to the FBI, was exposed by content creator FLM Flight, who filmed himself yanking on a pump's card reader — the easiest way to spot a sketchy setup. 'POV: You checking the card reader to make sure you don't get scammed,' he captioned the clip, which has already scored over 600,000 views on the app. So, whether you're fueling up or filling in your TikTok feed, remember — some hacks are just running on empty.

Tri-Counties Community Center in Marysville seeks community help as its at risk of closing

MARYSVILLE – The Tri-Counties Community Center in Marysville could be at risk of closing within the next year if major renovations aren't done. But there's hope. Lowe's is investing $100 million to restore community spaces across the country and the community center is hoping to be in the running for grant money. Now, they're desperate to spread the word to qualify for the grant, but the nomination period ends on Tuesday, Feb. 18. "I'd say six months to a year, if we don't get a new roof then we're going to have to shut down," said board member of Tri-Counties Community Center Shamaya Sutton. The Tri-Counties Community Center serves roughly 30,000 people a year across Yuba, Sutter and Butte counties. It's a major staple for youth as well as an integral part of the community. "It was in the last two weeks that it really started to show. We came in on Monday for a board meeting, that's when we saw this whole thing which had a bunch of insulation come down and we had to move that because we have an event coming in tomorrow," Sutton said. They're expecting more than 500 people for the annual Yuba-Sutter Winter Pow Wow Saturday. "Every time we try to make a repair to make it look better it gets damaged again, so we need a new roof in order to make this place better entirely. It doesn't make sense pouring money into anything else before we get that fixed," Sutton said. While they're cleaning up for the Pow Wow, they worry about having the center at all next year. "We don't have that stuff that Sacramento and Roseville have." said Courtney Sullivan, who brings her kids to the center daily, "It's a big thing in our community. We need it. My kids love it." "This is my favorite time coming here," 4-year-old Aaliyah said. The community center is applying for a grant through Lowe's. The corporation is investing money across the nation into community spaces. "The more people who nominate, the more likely we are to get the grant. That would give us the ability to start the roof and get the projects underway," Sutton said. "I feel like it would mean a lot to them because they like coming here and skating and hanging out with us," 9-year-old Alecia said. Alecia says she goes to the community center nearly every day with other kids from her school. "If we go away there's not a lot for the community to do, especially for an affordable price. A lot of our demographics are disadvantaged, low-income," Sutton said. The building is safe for now, but they're worried that might not be the case next winter. The community center says they need $200,000-$300,000 for major renovations. If you want to nominate the community center you can head to their Facebook page, Tri-Counties Community Center, and they have a post up with clear instructions on how to vote. You have until Tuesday.

Mother leads search party for Triad man missing for 2 months

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — It's been two months since 28-year-old Aamari Eubanks was last seen. As Burlington police continue their investigation into his disappearance, his mother is taking matters into her own hands. Half a dozen people searched the woods behind North Park in Burlington for Aamari who hasn't been seen since Dec. 4. Alecia Eubanks helped organize this search party Tuesday afternoon for her son Aamari. 'We're very close, and he doesn't ever go two hours without calling me … For the last two months, nothing,' Alecia said. The last known footage of the 28-year-old man is him leaving his family home on the 100 block of Wilkins Road in Haw River around 7 p.m. on Dec. 4. Burlington police say he drove a silver 2000 Toyota Avalon and headed west on US 70 toward Burlington. On Dec. 5, police found his vehicle abandoned in a heavily wooded area off Sharpe Road. It's a place his mother searched again two months later. After enduring the holiday season without her son, Alecia says she won't give up looking for him. 'I'm praying daily. God is what's keeping me strong. He's the source of my strength right now. I really feel like breaking, but I got to be strong and find my son,' Alecia said. Investigators say Aamari is in danger and was injured. As the search continues, Alecia is asking witnesses to speak up. 'He's someone's son. He's somebody's brother, and we just want him to come back home safely,' she said. He was last seen in a bleach-stained black jacket, black jogger pants and black and white Adidas tennis shoes. Burlington police are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that will lead to the location of Aamari. As of right now, investigators have not shared any new information on their investigation.
