Allan Saint-Maximin accuses Mourinho's Fenerbahce side of giving him 'doping products'

Former Newcastle United attacker Allan Saint-Maximin has made a startling allegation about his spell at Fenerbahce with former Roma boss Jose Mourinho. Speaking on the Zack Nani Podcast, Saint-Maximin claimed Fenerbahce tried to pressure him into breaking anti-doping rules. The winger, who joined the club on loan last season from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, made the allegation while explaining why the team failed to win the league title. Advertisement 'Jose Mourinho (Fenerbahce manager) gave everything to be champions. But unfortunately, the club was surrounded by factors other than football,' claimed Saint-Maximin. 'To give you an example, they even tried to dope me. People don't know these things. You cannot speak openly because you'll be threatened. They say, 'If you talk, we will do this or that.' Sometimes you find yourself in situations that go beyond football.' Upon witnessing the chaos his comments caused, Saint-Maximin added more in a post on X. 'I see that things are going all over the place on X, so I'm going to clarify what I said. I was talking about those people around the club who are ready for anything,' he wrote. Advertisement 'In my case, when I was sick, they practically gave me a treatment that's considered a doping product. I'm unsure for what purpose this team of doctors did that.' Unsurprisingly, the Turkish giants responded to Saint-Maximin's allegations with a statement of their own. 'By distorting the facts regarding the medical treatment he received following a health issue, the player has attempted to mislead the public and damage the reputation of our club.' 'As Fenerbahce Sports Club, we hereby inform the public that we will exercise all our legal rights against these misleading statements and any attempt to undermine our institutional reputation.'

Fenerbahce deny Allan Saint-Maximin's claim they gave him ‘doping products'

Fenerbahce have denied Allan Saint-Maximin's claims that the club tried to dope him last season. The 28-year-old winger spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Fenerbache from Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli. Speaking on the Zack Nani podcast, Saint-Maximin alleged during his time at the club that when he fell ill, Fenerbahce staff gave him 'treatment that's considered a doping product'. Advertisement Fenerbahce responded to Saint-Maximin's claims with a statement that read: 'By distorting the facts regarding the medical treatment he received following a health issue, the player has attempted to mislead the public and damage the reputation of our club. 'As Fenerbahçe Sports Club, we hereby inform the public that we will exercise all our legal rights against these misleading statements and any attempt to undermine our institutional reputation.' Saint-Maximin scored four goals and provided five assists in 31 games for Fenerbahce as his side finished second in the Turkish Superlig, nine points behind champions Galatasaray. The winger gave a reason as to why he thought his side missed out on winning the title, saying: 'Jose Mourinho (Fenerbahce manager) gave everything to be champions. But unfortunately, there are an enormous number of things that happen, things around the club that are really complicated. 'To give you an example for me, they went so far as to want to dope me, to say how serious it is. These are things that people don't know. You don't speak out because someone is threatening you behind your back. It goes beyond football.' There was no suggestion from Saint-Maximin that Mourinho was involved in anything he described. After the clip of him speaking garnered widespread attention, Saint-Maximin added the following on social media: 'I see it's going viral on Twitter, so I'll clarify what I said. I was talking about these people around the club who are prepared to do anything. In my case, when I was ill, I was practically given a treatment that is considered to be a doping product. I don't know what the purpose of this team of doctors was.' Mourinho and Saint-Maximin had a public disagreement in March. The Frenchman was left out of his side's Europa League game against Rangers in March after the Portuguese coach labelled him overweight. Saint-Maximing denied the accusation, claiming he was the same weight he had been when he had played for Newcastle United. Advertisement Saint-Maximin's brother, Kurtys, then got involved in the disagreement, saying: 'Being special means showing class when the moment calls for it, not kicking a soldier when they're down. 'Attacking someone who is at their lowest with slander on their birthday is not classy, especially when you know there's injustice involved. Dirty laundry should be washed in private.'

Your most skilful Newcastle players

Newcastle legend Steve Howey named Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, David Ginola, Chris Waddle and Hatem Ben Arfa as the club's most skilful players are some players that you think deserved to be on the list: Richard: While I agree totally with Beardo as number one I don't think you can put Ginola and Ben Arfa in and leave out fellow Frenchman Laurent Robert. I mean, Robert didn't score goals…. he scored GOALS!! Every one was a worldy! He had absolutely no concept of defending, of course, but what a player going forward!John: Allan Saint-Maximin should be on that list, a sorely under-appreciated talent who made Grealish look sluggish and left defenders completely bamboozled. Thanks PSR for making us sell him Nobby Jimmy Smith. Frustrating at times but a brilliant dribbler on his day. I saw him nutmeg Bobby Moore twice in succession. He did it because he could but I don't think he should have done, not good to do that to a well respected and great Tony Green, career cut short by injury but the best that I've seen at He didn't miss anyone out. How great it is to have three Geordies in the top five! They'd get into our team today.

Former Premier League star leaves Fenerbahce after Jose Mourinho made digs about his weight in mid-season bust-up

A former Premier League star has left Jose Mourinho 's Fenerbahce on the back of jibes about his weight from the Turkish side's boss. The forward joined the Turkish giants in the summer in a loan deal from Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, teaming up with former Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United manager Mourinho. Things started off well, with the star picking up three assists and one goal in his first five league matches for the club, but the situation turned sour quickly when he was left out of a Europa League squad. Allan Saint-Maximin, formerly of Newcastle in the Premier League, appeared to take aim at Mourinho when he was left out of the Fenerbahce squad for their Europa League second leg clash with Rangers. The Turkish giants were tasked with overturning a 3-1 deficit against Rangers back in March, eventually losing on penalties. Saint-Maximin, though, was left out the squad, and took to social media to express his frustrations. Now, though, he and Mourinho have parted ways, with the 28-year-old heading back to Saudi Arabia upon the expiry of his loan deal. 'Can't thank you enough for all the love and support throughout the year,' Saint-Maximin posted on social media as he revealed the news. 'It was a beautiful but difficult experience, with issues outside football but everything is well now thank God. 'I gave my best on the pitch despite these complications and I am grateful for the continuous love and support you gave me everyday. 'Fener will always have a special place in my heart, thank you to everyone and wish you the best.' It was also social media where he expressed his frustrations at being left out of the squad to face Rangers, posting: 'It will take more than this to defeat me. When a lie takes the elevator, the truth takes the stairs. It takes longer but it always arrives in the end. If God is with us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31.' Mourinho, in response, mocked the post and laid bare the reasons for his exclusion, which included the player supposedly being overweight. 'I didn't know Saint-Maximin was talented in poetry,' said Mourinho. 'I'm not bad in that regard either. When a football player works well, works hard, trains every day, he is fit and can climb the stairs. He doesn't need an elevator. 'However, if a player doesn't train well, arrives late, is overweight, is not ready to play, he needs an elevator to go up. Because he gets tired quickly on the stairs.' Remarkably, Saint-Maximin decided to have another bite at his manager after his response and rubbished the claims of his boss. 'Lies produce flowers but not fruit,' he responded. He did, though, go onto play for Mourinho again, with his last match coming in April.
