Browns Unveil Historic New Alternate Uniforms in Must-See Video
Browns Unveil Historic New Alternate Uniforms in Must-See Video originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns will play in the franchise's 77th season in 2025 with a new look. Announced live on The Pat McAfee Show, Cleveland's mascot "Brownie" unveiled a historic new helmet, which matches new uniforms dropped on social media. For the first time in team history, the Browns will wear brown helmets. The team also released a hype video commemorating the new caps, with the caption reading, "a new look up top, molded by hardened toughness." Cleveland will wear these new uniforms three times this upcoming season. The uniform set is named the "Alpha Dawg". Here are the games where Cleveland will wear the their new threads instead of the traditional orange helmets: Week 3: Sunday Sept. 21 vs. Green Bay Packers Week 7: Sunday Oct. 19 vs. Miami Dolphins Week 14: Sunday Dec. 7 vs. Tennessee Titans The new look hopes to evoke a swagger that gets the team back into winning ways this season. Last year, the team fell to a 3-14 record after reaching the playoffs off a 11-6 regular season the year before. The 2024 win total is the Browns' lowest since their 0-16 finish in 2017. This uniform change comes in a potentially pivotal point in Browns history as this year's rookie class has a chance to impact the team in a big way. Joining newly-paid cornerstone Myles Garrett on the defensive line is No. 5 overall pick Mason Graham out of Michigan. Offensively, rookies quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are set to enter a four-man competition at training camp with Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, where the youngsters are believed to have a legit shot at seeing action at some point this season. Cleveland Browns add first brown helmet in 79-year franchise history with Alpha Dawg – Here's what fans think
No Logo, All Brown: Browns unveil first-ever alternate helmet for 2025. The Cleveland Browns are once again turning heads with their choice of headgear. On Wednesday, the team unveiled an all-new alternate helmet design that will debut during the 2025 NFL season. Dubbed the 'Alpha Dawg,' this fresh look features a matte brown finish with orange striping – a dramatic change from the team's traditional bright orange shells. It's the first time the Browns have ever introduced brown helmets in their history, adding a new chapter to a franchise known for its otherwise minimalist style and hard-nosed identity. Cleveland Browns' latest look is a nod to history – and a step into the future For a team that prides itself on tradition – and whose primary helmet has gone largely untouched for decades – the introduction of the 'Alpha Dawg' is a surprising but intentional move. According to the Browns, this helmet is more than just a visual refresh. It's designed to reflect the toughness and leadership the team hopes to embody on the field. ''Alpha Dawg' embodies what we set out to be as the Cleveland Browns, the leaders of the pack. We're excited about this new alternate helmet and the ode it pays to the rich history of the color brown as part of our organization, switching it up from our iconic orange helmets,' said JW Johnson, the team's executive vice president. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo The Browns will wear the new helmets three times during the upcoming season, pairing them with brown jerseys and pants for a full monochrome, yet impactful look. This will mark a stark contrast from the club's usual aesthetic, which has centered around the orange helmets since 1952. From white to orange and now to brown – the evolution of the Cleveland Browns' helmet While the Browns have never featured a logo on their helmets – a point of pride for the franchise – they have experimented more with helmet color in recent years. Over the past two seasons, the team occasionally wore white throwback helmets, a subtle nod to their roots in the All-America Football Conference and early NFL days (1950–51). Then they switched to orange in 1952 – the style that's remained largely unchanged until now. Despite their historical significance, the white alternates didn't bring much luck on the field. The Browns went just 2-4 in games wearing them, including the Week 2 contest in 2023 when star running back Nick Chubb suffered a rather serious knee injury. A clean look with an unusual sponsor on the helmet The Browns partnered with DUDE Wipes to promote the helmet launch, a branding choice that quickly caught the attention of fans across the internet. Known for its fun and offbeat tone, DUDE Wipes leaned all the way in. 'As the kings of keeping things clean, we're here to back the Browns as they embrace a bold new look this season − with the launch of their all-brown alternate helmets,' said DUDE Wipes co-founder and CMO Ryan Meegan. 'We're pumped to team up with the Browns for one of the most iconic helmet reveals the league has ever seen.' Cleveland Browns Debut New Matte "Alpha Dawg" Helmet Live On The Pat McAfee Show FAQs Q: When will the Browns wear the new 'Alpha Dawg' helmets? A: The Cleveland Browns plan to wear the new brown helmets three times during the 2025 NFL season, pairing them with matching brown jerseys and pants. Q: Has Cleveland ever worn brown helmets before? Watch photographer fall into Lake Erie during Cleveland Browns' helmet reveal
A photographer fell into the water while trying to take photos during the unveiling of the Cleveland Browns' new alternate helmet in Ohio. Video footage from the incident shows the person tumbling and falling into the waters of Lake Erie on Wednesday, July 23 as they attempted to take photos of the giant inflatable helmet featuring the new design and colors on a barge. Storyful, citing the Browns, reported the 20-foot barge was located about 300 feet offshore from Huntington Bank Field, the team's home stadium in Cleveland. While the Cleveland Browns did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for more information on Thursday, July 24, the Akron Beacon Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported the person did not remain in the water long and was assisted by an officer on a jet ski. Was the fall staged? The NFL team has not commented on whether the incident was staged; however, the Akron Beacon Journal reported that the individual who fell into the water was influencer Ross Smith, who has nearly 25 million followers on TikTok, almost four million on Instagram and more than five million subscribers on YouTube. Smith shared the video of his tumble in a July 23 Instagram post that had Dude Wipes as a collaborator. The disposable wipes product brand sponsored the helmets. What does the Cleveland Browns' new helmet look like? The Browns revealed a new helmet on July 23 that will be worn occasionally during the 2025 season. The helmet is matte brown and features orange stripes down the centerline, but does not sport a logo. The Browns are the only team in the NFL that does not have a logo on its helmets. The team, one of four to never reach the Super Bowl, is calling the new crown its "Alpha Dawg." The "Alpha Dawg" helmets are the first brown helmets the team has used since being founded in 1946. They will be worn three times during the 2025 season in a monochromatic presentation, along with the club's brown jerseys and pants. "'Alpha Dawg' embodies what we set out to be as the Cleveland Browns, the leaders of the pack," the team's Executive Vice President, James Wood "JW" Johnson III, said in a statement. Browns Employee Falls Into Water During Helmet Reveal
The Cleveland Browns just can't do anything without suffering a mishap. The Browns unveiled a brand new alternate helmet on Wednesday that is all brown with the exception of two orange stripes on the top. But the unveiling did not go off without a hitch. An employee who looked to be taking pictures of the unveiling took a bad step and fell off the barge where the inflatable helmet was situated and landed right in the waters of Lake Erie. Luckily, the mascot was ready with what appeared to be a life preserver, and the person is OK. It's good to see the Browns were ready for the worst, something the franchise is used to experiencing. The Browns' first-ever brown helmet, dubbed "Alpha Dawg," will be accompanied by their all-brown alternate jersey in 2025. Cleveland will wear the combination for three contests, including the Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers, the Week 7 game against the Miami Dolphins and the Week 14 matchup versus the Tennessee Titans, all of which are home games. In years past, teams weren't allowed to use a third helmet, but that rule was changed in 2022 and has since been expanded. The Browns are coming off a rough season in 2024, with the team going 3-14. They're hoping the winner of a four-man quarterback competition between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel will get the team moving in the right direction. Browns accused of staging viral moment in photographer's lake fall debacle
Splish splash, this Browns photographer was taking a bath. In a pretty on-brand Cleveland Browns moment, the team debuted a striking new brown alternate helmet called 'Alpha Dawg' aboard a raft on Lake Erie, only for a photographer to steal the spotlight by taking one misstep and plunging dramatically into the water. With two mascots in the picture and numerous cameras surrounding, some speculated it was a staged moment with the mascots' dramatic reactions and the photographer's fall looking a little too convenient. Advertisement The moment, talked about on ESPN's new SC+ show with Gary Striewski and Randy Scott, was speculated to be fake as the moment involved a sanitary product brand, Dude Wipes, and may have been set up to get some publicity. 'Do you think it was staged?' Striewski asked. Advertisement 'I wouldn't put it past [them] because people love to go trending,' Scott replied. 'But you know what, guy? We're not even going to say your name. I mean, look, I don't know what to believe anymore.' The video quality is another concern when diving into the video's authenticity, as it appears to be taken in 4K while a bystander on a boat recorded the interaction. 3 Browns photographer takes one step too many as he fell into a lake during a promo video. X, @CLElaytown Regardless of it being staged or not, it was a laughable moment to start a Browns season that is expected to be filled with them. Advertisement Cleveland is coming off a 3-14 season, tied for the NFL's worst record with the Giants and Titans, and a four-man QB battle between Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel is playing out at training camp. The decision to pick two rookie QBs — Gabriel and Sanders — put added attention on the situation, especially given the spotlight that is on Deion Sanders' son after he fell to the fifth round of the NFL draft in April. 3 Many think that the photographer falling into the water is a staged moment for social media clicks.
