Halma: FTSE 100 giant books record revenue and ups dividend
Safety and equipment maker Halma notched a record year after its diversified business model powered growth across sectors amid a tough global backdrop. The 130-year-old FTSE 100 firm recorded an 11 per cent jump in revenue to £2.2bn, which came after the business's revenue for the first six months of the financial year topped £1bn for the first time. Profit before tax came in at £411.2m, up from £367.9m for the previous year. The firm cited a broad spread of growth across all markets and regions for the figures. Its Environmental and Analysis division bolstered revenue 18 per cent after 'exceptional growth in photonics'. Meanwhile, healthcare had a modest increase of 3.2 per cent, which Halma said was driven by a substantial improvement in the second half. Halma's return on total invested capital was up 60 basis points to 15 per cent, taking it above its 12 per cent target. The Amersham-based business delivered dividend growth of seven per cent – marking its 46th consecutive year of dividend growth of 5 per cent or more. Cash conversion smashed its 90 per cent target, reaching 112 per cent. This was an improvement on the 103 per cent last year, providing Halma excess cash for further investment. The group had invested over £108m in research and development spending in the last year as it sought future growth. Halma said it had a 'healthy pipeline of potential acquisitions' after completing seven takeovers for £157m total consideration. Marc Ronchetti, group chief executive, said: 'This has been another successful year for Halma, reflecting the contributions and commitment of everyone in the Group. 'We delivered record revenue and profit, with strong margins and cash generation, and increased returns on capital. We achieved our 22nd consecutive year of profit growth, and delivered our 46th consecutive year of dividend growth of 5 per cent or more.'

Tesco announces major change to 2,000 stores starting this month - is YOUR local affected?
A famous toy chain is gearing up to take to the shelves in more than 2,000 Tesco Express stores across the UK. The Entertainer has announced it will introduce a range of its popular toy lines in Tesco's smaller branches starting this month. A number of branches already have The Entertainer sections in-store featuring seasonal favourites and the latest fads with prices ranging from £1.50 to £7. The range of toys will include some of the store's most popular toys such as Hot Wheels, TY and Addo. It comes after The Entertainer finished opening 850 concessions at Tesco supermarkets last October, which created 1200 jobs. A spokesperson for Tesco told MailOnline that the roll out covers 95 per cent of Express stores and all 2,010 stores included are due to launch The Entertainer concessions within the next couple of weeks. Tesco said its earlier expansion was completed in eight months with an average of 100 concessions opening per month. Once opened the new additions will give the Amersham-based business a presence in more than triple the number of UK and Ireland locations in comparison to any other toy retailer. Andrew Murphy OBE, group chief executive officer of The Entertainer, said: 'We are thrilled to enlarge our successful partnership with Tesco by introducing our ranges to their convenience-format stores – putting even more of Tesco's shoppers within easy reach of our outstanding toy offer.' 'One year in, our collaboration with Tesco has delivered everything we'd hoped for. 'We look forward to building on these great foundations with such a supportive and accomplished partner and to further demonstrate the strength and versatility of our "Toy Box" retail solution for multi-category retailers.' Pauline Chisholm, head of strategy and partnerships at Tesco, said: 'We are delighted to bring easy access to great toys for every budget to even more customers by extending our partnership with The Entertainer to include our Express stores. 'We are confident that our customers will appreciate the chance to pick up some of the latest and most popular toys close to home, as well as in our large stores.'

The Entertainer will launch in 2010 in Tesco Express stores across the UK, and will be offering customers the chance to pick up products ranging from the latest crazes to its seasonal toy lines. Tesco has confirmed a huge change which will affect over 2,000 supermarket stores from this month. From April, the supermarket chain will be expanding its partnership with toy retailer The Entertainer and will be introducing a selection of its "key" toy lines its its Tesco Express stores. The Entertainer will launch in 2010 in Tesco Express stores across the UK, and will be offering customers the chance to pick up products ranging from the latest crazes to its seasonal toy lines. Prices of the products available will range from £1.50 to £7 and will cater to children of all ages. The announcement follows last October's completion of the roll-out of The Entertainer's toy shop concessions in more than 860 Tesco supermarkets across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, creating 1200 jobs. Last year's rollout made the Entertainer one of the biggest toy retailers in the country with more "points of presence" across the UK than any other brand. To support this expansion, The Entertainer also opened a new distribution centre, which it said 'played a pivotal role in stocking the in-store concessions and meeting the soaring demand created by the roll-out'.
