$94 million in grants awarded to Jewish faith-based organizations to prevent ‘violence and terrorism': DHS
FIRST ON FOX: Secretary Kristi Noem and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded a staggering $94.4 million in federal grants through the National Security Supplemental (NSGP-NSS) to 512 Jewish faith-based organizations on Friday. The grants, which are allocated through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, are part of a pre-designated fund to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under DHS with the purpose of providing "support for target hardening and other physical security enhancements." "DHS is working to put a stop to the deeply disturbing rise in anti-Semitic attacks across the United States," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital. "That this money is necessary at all is tragic. Anti-Semitic violence has no place in this country." "However, under President Trump and Secretary Noem's leadership, we are going to do everything in our power to make sure that Jewish people in the United States can live free of the threat of violence and terrorism." Sources at DHS tell Fox News Digital that similar grants have been used for improved security measures like cameras, physical barriers, and other enhanced safety initiatives. Anti-Semitic attacks in the US have been on the rise since Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the continuous war between the Jewish state and neighboring countries. American college campuses, including Columbia and NYU, have erupted with Israel and Palestine protests since 2023. Two Israeli embassy staffers were murdered in Washington, D.C., in May and a group of pro-Israel demonstrators were "targeted" with Molotov cocktails in Boulder, Colorado just this month. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) found that 2024 marked a record high 9,354 anti-Semitic incidents, which is an increase of 344% over the past five years. The Nonprofit Security Grant Program website states that all faith-based organizations must first apply through the Department of Homeland Security to receive funding, and sources at DHS also tell Fox News Digital that these are just the first of many grants to be sent. The Trump administration has firmly backed Israel throughout tensions in the Middle East, and recently negotiated a ceasefire between the Jewish homeland and Iran, mitigated by Qatar, on Tuesday. Though conflict and hostility are still high among Israel and neighboring countries, the Trump administration has touted a win for peace abroad, while antisemitism still remains on the rise at home. Trump administration weighs adding 36 countries to travel ban, memo says
US President Donald Trump's administration is considering significantly expanding its travel ban by potentially banning citizens of 36 additional countries from entering the United States, according to an internal State Department cable seen by Reuters. Earlier this month, the Republican president signed a proclamation that banned the entry of citizens from 12 countries, saying the move was needed to protect the United States against "foreign terrorists" and other national security threats. The directive was part of an immigration crackdown Mr Trump launched this year at the start of his second term, which has included the deportation to El Salvador of hundreds of Venezuelans suspected of being gang members, as well as efforts to deny enrollments of some foreign students from US universities and deport others. In an internal diplomatic cable signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the State Department outlined a dozen concerns about the countries in question and sought corrective action. "The Department has identified 36 countries of concern that might be recommended for full or partial suspension of entry if they do not meet established benchmarks and requirements within 60 days," the cable sent out over the weekend said. The cable was first reported by the Washington Post. Among the concerns the State Department raised was the lack of a competent or cooperative government by some of the countries mentioned to produce reliable identity documents, the cable said. Another was "questionable security" of that country's passport. Some countries, the cable said, were not cooperative in facilitating the removal of its nationals from the United States who were ordered to be removed. Some countries were overstaying the US visas their citizens were being granted. Other reasons for concern were the nationals of the country were involved in acts of terrorism in the United States, or Anti-Semitic and anti-American activity. The cable noted that not all of these concerns pertained to every country listed. The countries that could face a full or a partial ban if they do not address these concerns within the next 60 days are: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cote D'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, South Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. That would be a significant expansion of the ban that came into effect earlier this month. The countries affected were Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The entry of people from seven other countries - Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela - has also been partially restricted. During his first in office, Mr Trump announced a ban on travellers from seven Muslim-majority nations, a policy that went through several iterations before it was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.

Germany's Merz blames migration for 'imported' rising anti-Semitism
Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said migration is a significant factor behind the rise of anti-Semitism in Germany, calling it a "terrible challenge" for the country. "We have a sort of imported anti-Semitism with the big numbers of migrants we have within the last 10 years," Merz said late on Thursday in an interview with US broadcaster Fox News. The phrase "imported anti-Semitism" has stirred controversy in Germany. It suggests that anti-Semitism is mainly a result of immigration, a view often echoed in right-wing circles. Critics say the term unfairly targets Muslims and migrants, while downplaying anti-Semitism within broader German society. Anti-Semitic incidents in Germany surged sharply in 2024, according to figures published by a monitoring organization on Wednesday. The report from the Federal Association of Departments for Research and Information on Antisemitism (RIAS) documented 8,627 anti-Semitic incidents — a 77% increase compared to the previous year. Of these, 5,857 cases were classified as "anti-Semitism related to Israel" - meaning incidents in which Jews living in Germany are held responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, or where Israel's right to exist is disputed. The figure was more than twice as many as recorded in 2023. A total of 544 cases were attributed to right-wing extremist views, a record since RIAS began documenting cases nationwide in 2020. "We are doing everything we can to bring these numbers down," Merz said, adding that Germany was prosecuting those who break the law.

House Democrat: Trump wants to follow Putin ‘model,' destroy institutions
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) accused President Trump of trying to emulate Russian President Vladimir Putin by punishing Harvard University and other institutions Trump views as opposing his administration. 'He wants to follow the model of Vladimir Putin,' Meeks, the ranking member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told CNN's Sara Sidner in an interview Wednesday. 'He wants us to be similar to that.' Meeks said Trump is 'trying to destroy our institutions,' which he described as the 'fabric of America.' Trump has taken aim at Harvard by canceling federal contracts, threatening the college's ability to enroll students from other countries, launching multiple investigations and questioning the school's tax-exempt status, among other efforts. The university and the administration are in ongoing legal fights over the rifts. Trump accused Harvard of fostering discrimination and antisemitism on campus and said that's why he has gone after the nation's oldest and richest college. 'Harvard is an Anti-Semitic, Far Left Institution, as are numerous others, with students being accepted from all over the World that want to rip our Country apart,' Trump wrote in a recent Truth Social post. 'The place is a Liberal mess, allowing a certain group of crazed lunatics to enter and exit the classroom and spew fake ANGER AND HATE. It is truly horrific!' Meeks disagreed with Trump's claims. 'This is about retribution,' he told Sidner. 'This is about individuals, as we've seen again and again, universities, law firms, any individual that Trump perceives to be his enemy.' 'It's about him wanting to be a king,' Meeks added. Meeks said he views universities like Harvard as offering a valuable avenue for scholars to come to the U.S. and make the country better through research and other endeavors. 'That's what we should be about, not [Trump] trying to stand and look like a king and say, 'This is what I want; this against me, and so, therefore, I'm going after you,'' Meeks said. Trump has shown increasing hostility toward Putin in recent days after maintaining a friendly relationship with the Russian leader in the past. Trump lashed out this week over Russia's continued war against Ukraine. 'What Vladimir Putin doesn't realize is that if it weren't for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD,' Trump posted Tuesday on Truth Social. 'He's playing with fire!' Meeks has proposed legislation that would put new sanctions on Putin and Russia. 'There is no pressure on Russia at all, and I think it's time for the United States Congress to step up,' Meeks said on CNN. 'All along what Putin wanted to do was buy time and allow Trump to come in and do nothing so that they could do all that they wanted to do. And that's what's happening here.'
