AP agrees to take up repair work at Srisailam project
HYDERABAD: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which agreed to resolve the long-standing river water disputes at a meeting in New Delhi, also ratified earlier decisions made by the Apex Council in 2020 and as per the AP Reorganisation Act, the Krishna River Management Board office will be located in AP, while the Godavari River Management Board office will be based in Telangana. Another key decision was AP agreeing to take up repairs and restoration work at the Srisailam dam, one of the oldest and most critical multi-purpose projects shared by both states. Given safety concerns over the dam's plunge pool and structural components, and since it falls under AP's jurisdiction, the Naidu govt will undertake necessary work. The project is vital to both Telugu states for meeting their irrigation and drinking water requirements. "There were no arguments or heated exchanges. The agenda did not include that issue. The Jal Shakti ministry only facilitated the talks; it did not take sides," he clarified. Taking a swipe at former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, Revanth alleged that KCR had surrendered Telangana's water rights to AP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How to Trade ETH/USD Without Holding Ether IC Markets Learn More Undo "Now, the Congress govt is trying to correct those mistakes. This meeting, though informal, has provided a constructive platform to move forward," he said. When asked about the credibility of the proposed committee, Revanth said: "Even laws passed by Parliament are not implemented by PM Modi, including the Reorganisation Act. If we keep doubting everything, there will be no progress. Our aim is to resolve, not prolong, these issues. We are accountable to the people of Telangana, not to political agendas." The meeting was widely seen as a promising start in breaking the deadlock on critical water-sharing concerns with both sides committed to a structured dialogue, something that has eluded the two states for nearly a decade since bifurcation of combined AP in 2014. Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy is likely to meet union railways and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Thursday.

'Once a worry, India's improved fielding a major reason for their remarkable turnaround'
MUMBAI: For long, fielding has been a major Achilles' heel for the Indian women's team, costing them heavily in several big tournaments. However, things on this front have been entirely different in England this summer. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a major, welcome change, Harmanpret Kaur & Co's electric fielding has actually emerged as their strength, contributing majorly to the side's maiden T20I series in (they hold an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series with the final match to be played on Saturday night) England recently-an achievement that has largely gone under the radar due to the ongoing high-profile men's Test series between the two nations. Throwing themselves on the field with gay abandon, India's fielders have pulled off some spectacular catches, effected run outs and saved runs-a far cry from the sight of the same lot fumbling with the ball on previous occasions. That India's fielding is finally changing from 'sloppy' to 'electric' augurs well for the Women-in-Blue as they have big challenges lined up for the next year or so- the 50 overs World Cup in India in Sept-Oct-Nov and then the T20 World Cup in England in June 2026. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Fielding, once a worry, has seen a remarkable turnaround. The improvement has been evident and played a key role in the team's recent success," former India women's team captain Shubhangi Kulkarni, currently a member of the BCCI's Apex Council, told TOI on Saturday. "They held targeted camps ahead of the tour, and the results are clear to see. The Women in Blue are carrying themselves with energy, confidence, and purpose—signs of strong preparation and also I am sure the exposure from the Women's Premier League (WPL) has helped," she said. Across the four matches against England, one could see that Harmanpreet Kaur & Co seemed to be fielding with confidence and athleticism. In a refreshing change, they have so far completely outclassed hosts England, who have been mostly shoddy, in this department. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'Back when I had joined the team, we had decided on one thing: we wanted to become a good fielding side. We all needed to contribute towards that and work together. Every player, senior or junior, responded to that,' said India's fielding coach Munish Bali on Friday on the eve of the fifth and final T20I in Birmingham. Jasprit Bumrah and Joe Root react to the Dukes ball drama at Lord's | IND vs ENG 'It was a shared dream that came from the players as well. They wanted to do well, feel like Australia and England (in terms of fielding standards). We knew that we were doing the work in the background, so sooner or later, the results would come. We had done some good fielding during the Women's Tri-Series (against Sri Lanka and South Africa). The same has carried over to the current series against England as well. The commitment they showed to improving their fielding was not only seen during the match but also in their practice matches,' he said. Another heartening feature of the Indian women's team in England this summer has been the excellent show of their spinners. While the vastly-experienced (seven wickets in four T20Is@16.85) has been supported well by left-arm spinner Radhav Yadav (five wickets in four matches@16.60), the real surprise package has been Andhra's 20-year-old left-arm spinner Shree Charani, who made a sensational T20I debut in the opening T20I at Nottingham, took four for 12 in 3.5 overs to script India's 97-run win. In the fourth T20I at Old Trafford, 'Player of the Match' Radha Yadav (2-15 in four overs) and Charani (2-30 in four overs) took four for 45 in eight overs, playing a massive role in India's six-wicket series clinching win. In four T20I so far, Charani has taken 10 wickets@11.30-the most by any bowler in the series-at an economy rate of just 7.13, marking a phenomenal start to her T20I career. "The spinners have been in fine form, with Deepti Sharma leading them and Sree Charani has emerged as a real asset—an exciting find, especially with the ICC Women's ODI World Cup looming on home soil," Kulkarni praised. Of course, it was a blazing, maiden T20I century (112 off 62 balls) by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana which helped India put up 210 for five and record a huge win in the first game at Nottingham, and make a statement that the visitors were in the mood for something special this time in England. In the second T20I at Bristol, India collapsed to 31 for three at the start, but recovered to score 181 for four thanks to 63-run knocks by Jemimah Rodrigues and allrounder Amanjot Kaur. "Smriti set the tone with a sparkling century, and the rest of the batting unit - Jemi, Harleen, Amanjot and others - stepped up beautifully, each player contributing when it mattered," complimented Kulkarni. However, while India must celebrate this rare overseas triumph in women's , it must be remembered that England have been without their new captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who is suffering from a left groin injury, for the last two T20Is. "England, meanwhile, are navigating a transition and are missing a couple of senior players. That said, we must keep our foot on the pedal and continue performing at our peak to keep the wins coming," Kulkarni said. The 65-year-old also pointed out the zone where India still need to pull up their socks. "One area that still needs attention is our running between the wickets—turning ones into twos, and keeping the scoreboard ticking with smart singles," felt the former leg-spinning allrounder, who played 19 Tests and 27 T20Is between 1976-91.

TCM silently helping AP push forward Banakacherla, says T. Harish Rao
HYDERABAD: Former minister Harish Rao hit back at CM A Revanth Reddy , accusing him of silently helping AP push forward the illegal Banakacherla project. In a statement, he said, "It was BRS that woke up Congress from its deep slumber. We fought until environmental clearance for Banakacherla was denied. Now, you pretend like you care?" He said BRS had to remind Revanth Reddy that Telangana has a rightful share even in surplus waters of Godavari and Krishna. "Back then, you were ready to settle for 1,000 tmcft in Godavari and 500 in Krishna. We had to make you realise Telangana deserves more," he said. Harish questioned why Revanth Reddy has still not demanded an Apex Council meet. "What's stopping you from confronting the Centre or Andhra? Or are you just doing what your political guru Chandrababu Naidu wants?" he asked. The ex-minister said the people of Telangana were watching. He said under the GWDT award, Central Water Commission (CWC) can't approve projects without EAC clearances. The CM doesn't even understand that Apex Council comes before CWC. This is basic. Is this ignorance?" he asked. Meanwhile, irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said the Congress govt will not compromise on Telangana's rightful share of water in the Godavari and Krishna rivers. Stung by govt's PPP, BRS MP walks out of all-party meeting
Hyderabad: BRS Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra on Wednesday announced his boycott of the state government's power point presentation, alleging it was organised with 'political malice.' The BRS leader had initially attended the presentation delivered by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat. However, Vaddiraju Ravichandra walked out of the meeting in protest against what he termed the Congress government's 'political malfeasance' in organising a Public Private Partnership (PPP) on the Godavari-Banakacherla linkage project. MP Ravichandra unequivocally stated that undertaking this project is illegal and unjust, and that his party strongly opposes it. He urged the state government to strongly voice its case before the Centre on behalf of the people of Telangana, opposing this project proposal and calling for its immediate cancellation. Mr Ravichandra, who exited the meeting expressing strong objection to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's accusations against KCR without considering BRS's suggestions and recommendations, said that as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, if a state undertakes a new project, it must discuss the project details in the Apex Council and obtain approval. Ravichandra expressed regret that the Centre has taken steps to grant project approvals without convening an Apex Council meeting to discuss these actions taken by the Andhra Pradesh government in violation of the Reorganisation Act. 'We request the Chief Minister to write a letter to the Central Water Resources Department to immediately convene an Apex Council meeting. These issues that are hurting the interests of Telangana should be taken to Delhi soon,' said Ravichandra. He further urged the government to convene a special Assembly session where a unanimous resolution should be passed to stop the Polavaram Banakacherla project and sent to the Centre. BRS leaders K Kishore Goud, B Ramamurthy, J Jagan Mohan and others were also present.

Telangana to adopt two-pronged strategy to counter AP's moves on Banakacharla project
The State Government has decided to adopt a two-pronged strategy to counter Andhra Pradesh' moves to construct the Banakacharla project envisaging diversion of Godavari water to Krishna and Penna basins as it is detrimental to the interests of Telangana. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asserted that his government has resolved to take up a political battle against construction of the project that is aimed at diverting 400 tmc ft of Godavari water to Krishna and Penna basins for catering to the needs of Rayalaseema and Nellore and Prakasam district. This will be followed by a legal battle if necessary as the Congress Government is committed to protect the interests of Telangana. 'We will go to the people if there is no result even then,' he said. The Chief Minister launched a trenchant attack on BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao claiming that he had laid the foundation for the Banakacharla project assuring his government's full cooperation in diversion of Godavari water to make Rayalaseema fertile. 'Mr. Rao has informed the Apex Council on river management in 2016 itself that 3,000 tmc ft of Godavari water is going waste into the sea and this water can be harnessed for catering to the needs of Rayalaseema,' he said citing the minutes of the Apex Council meeting. He accused the BRS president of mortgaging the interests of the State to AP agreeing to allocation of 299 tmc ft of water from Krishna river to Telangana and 511 tmc ft to AP. 'BRS is now trying to revive itself by spreading false propaganda against the government, which is building up a strong case in support of our interests,' he said. He explained that the government had submitted representations to Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Finance Ministry and other Ministries like Environment Ministry as part of the strategy. 'The courts can raise objections if proper procedure is not followed. Therefore, we have submitted our representations to all the statutory institutions like river management board and Ministries,' he said. The Chief Minister said that AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should not feel confident of getting permission for projects his government proposed owing to his closeness to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'We have our strategy,' he said. He advised Mr. Naidu to give a blanket No Objection Certificate to Telangana for utilisation of 1,000 tmc ft of Godavari water and another 500 tmc ft of Krishna water before going ahead with the project. 'We will not be bothered about the projects in AP if a blanket no objection certificate is given to Telangana allowing it to utilise its justified share of water,' he averred. Mr. Revanth Reddy criticised the BRS leaders for ignoring pending projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers in their 10-year-rule in spite of spending ₹2 lakh crore on irrigation projects. 'Surplus water in Godavari came into picture as Mr. Rao colluded with contractors in lure of commissions and ignored the pending projects are key to sustenance of irrigation in Telangana. If anyone has to be punished for the injustice to Telangana, it is Mr. Rao and his nephew and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao,' he said. Substantiating his charge, the Chief Minister cited the Medigadda and other barrages of Kaleshwaram project that suffered damages resulting in flow of water down to AP. This was in addition to the acceptance of the BRS Government to projects like Rayalaseema lift irrigation projects, Pothireddypadu and Muchumarri that enabled the neighbouring State to draw huge quantities of water from the two rivers. Will not trust Kishan Responding to queries, the Chief Minister said that he would not trust Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, who skipped the all important meeting convened by the State Government claiming that he had doubts on the integrity of Mr. Kishan Reddy. 'Why did he meet Mr. Patil secretly when he preferred to skip the meeting?' he asked.
