Dodgers Not Expected to Make $275 Million Decision Because of Max Muncy
Dodgers Not Expected to Make $275 Million Decision Because of Max Muncy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Over the past few months, rumors have suggested that the Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in trading for Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals. Advertisement The Cardinals are in a better position than they were a few months ago heading into the season, as they now look for an opportunity to make the postseason. However, the reality is that if they had an opportunity to trade someone like Arenado to the Dodgers, and Los Angeles were willing to pay the rest of his deal, it's almost all but certain that they'd move on from him. Despite that, according to a recent report from Jim Bowden of The Athletic, it remains unlikely that the Dodgers would do so. He added that Arenado isn't precisely what Los Angeles is looking for, and that the front office and coaching staff love what Max Muncy has done after a slow start. Advertisement Muncy is dealing with a tough injury after being taken out by a slide during Clayton Kershaw's 3,000 strikeout game, but he's expected to return sometime over the next two months. If he comes back and continues to swing the bat at the level he did before, there wouldn't be much of a reason to explore an Arenado trade. A firm decision made on Mucy is a promising sign for the Dodgers as they head into the trade deadline. Ex-MLB GM Believes Dodgers Would Say No To Potential Nolan Arenado Trade
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Nolan Arenado have been rumored to be connected from the beginning of the offseason, when it looked like the St. Louis Cardinals were trying to move on from the All-Star third baseman. While a deal was not struck in the offseason, the possibility remained that the Cardinals could move him at the trade deadline, and former MLB executive Jim Bowden of The Athletic believes that the Dodgers would say no to the trade now. Photo byWhen presented with a trade proposal that would send Arenado to Los Angeles, Bowden simply said, "The Dodgers say no because they're not taking on Arenado's contract at this point in his career and they're happy with Max Muncy." The Dodgers had their chances to move for Arenado in the winter, but a deal was never struck. With the Cardinals entering the All-Star break in the hunt for the playoffs, Arenado might not waive his no-trade clause, much like he did when he declined a trade to the Houston Astros in the offseason. Arenado has not been the hitter he once was, but he has still been one of the best defensive third basemen in baseball. Muncy has been on the injured list, but with his looming return, it seems unlikely in Bowden's eyes that the Dodgers would accept such a trade. The Dodgers are loaded around the diamond and are focused on getting healthy, and are not a likely landing spot for the Cardinals' third baseman, if he were to be put on the block. Dodgers satisfied with Max Muncy, not looking for an upgrade
Dodgers satisfied with Max Muncy, not looking for an upgrade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers are never afraid to make a splash. Whether it be any of their marquee Japanese signings, plucking Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Angels, or bringing in Hall of Famer after Hall of Famer (Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman) over the last decade, nothing deters them from going after the big name. Advertisement However, there is one monumental player that the Dodgers are not expected to go after. Jim Bowden of The Athletic had this to say about a potential RHP Bobby Miller or OF James Outman to the St. Louis Cardinals for third baseman Nolan Arenado trade: Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase J. Rebilas-Imagn Images 'The Dodgers say no because they're not taking on Arenado's contract at this point in his career and they're happy with Max Muncy, who is on the injured list but expected to return from his bone bruise well before the end of the regular season.' Arenado, 34, has three years left of team control, earning $21 million this season, $16 million in 2026, and $15 million in 2027 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2028. Advertisement He is not the same player he once was with the Colorado Rockies or even in his early days with St. Louis, but that does not mean he is inept. Through 82 games and 311 at-bats, Arenado has a .244 batting average, a .692 OPS, a 94 OPS+, 10 home runs, and 24 walks to 34 strikeouts. He is also still fantastic at the hot corner, earning a +2 Defensive Run Value. That is a far cry from his Platinum Glove days, but he is still a superior defender to Muncy. Muncy, meanwhile, has seen drastic improvement at the plate since he began wearing glasses on April 30. He has looked like his prime self, with a .287 batting average, a .989 OPS, 13 home runs, and 37 walks to 35 strikeouts over his last 53 games. Arenado is still a fine player, but Los Angeles could have more success elsewhere if it tries to deal Miller or Outman. Nolan Arenado back in Cardinals lineup after missing 3 games with a shoulder impingement
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Arenado was back in the St. Louis starting lineup Wednesday night, playing third base and batting fifth as the Cardinals played the second game of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. Arenado had missed the last three games with a right shoulder impingement. The eight-time All-Star also was sidelined for two games last week, after he had jammed while recording his 1,900th career hit in a game against the Guardians. The 34-year-old Arenado is having perhaps the worst seasons of his 13-year big league career. The 10-time Gold Glove winner, who led the NL in homers three times during his days in Colorado and twice led the league in RBIs, entered Wednesday hitting just .248 with 10 homers and 41 RBIs in 81 games for St. Louis. ___
