Delhi govt to inaugurate 34 new Arogya Mandirs on July 24

The government will inaugurate 34 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAM) in the city on July 24 as part of the second phase of the rollout. The government health care centres will be launched virtually across all 11 districts of the Capital. An Ayushman Arogya mandir set up in Inderpuri. (Sanchit Khanna/HT Photo) The list of the upcoming AAMs, also seen by HT, includes five centres in central Delhi, four in east Delhi, two in new Delhi, one in north district 1, five in northwest, four in Shahdara, three in south Delhi, one in southeast, three in southwest, four in west, two in northeast Delhi. Notably, AAMs are free, walk-in government clinics that were announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government when they came to power earlier this year. In the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, Mohalla Clinics offered the free of cost treatment to residents and were shut after the new government won the assembly elections. 'The old Mohalla Clinic in our area had become a landmark, as it was used by everyone,' said M Amjed, 45, who runs a small garment shop in Rodgran, near Sadanand Marg in central Delhi. 'Recently, the clinic has been freshly painted and converted into an Arogya Mandir, but people still know it as the Mohalla Clinic.' From the outside, it looks as if the clinic has been given a new lease of life, said Afroz Khan, 35, who also runs a shop nearby. 'My father has been a regular visitor here since he is diabetic and needs monthly medication. Earlier, we were worried the clinic would shut down, but luckily that didn't happen. After it was converted into an Arogya Mandir, he visited once to get his medicines and was able to collect them without any issue.' About three kilometres away, at another newly refurbished Arogya Mandir located inside the Tis Hazari Court complex, doctors say the clinic has seen a rise in footfall since it was inaugurated last month on July 16. 'Earlier, the clinic had an average daily footfall of 30–40 patients, which has now increased to around 60 on a daily basis. Among this increase, we are noticing a rise in the number of female patients,' said one of the staff at the clinic, who did not wish to be named. The staff added that currently, the clinic has no shortage of medicines. 'As per the Essential Drug List (EDL), the clinic should have around 105 types of medicines. Currently, the clinic has almost 80 percent of the stock and is fulfilling the needs of the patients.' On July 6, Union health minister JP Nadda and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, during an event at Vigyan Bhawan to distribute appointment letters to 1,400 nurses, announced that Delhi will get 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs by March 31, 2026. The CM also stated that work on the new Arogya Mandirs has been completed and that the government will inaugurate the new centres this month. 'Around 40 Arogya Mandirs are now ready, and this month, we are going to have a virtual inauguration for these Arogya Mandirs,' said health minister Pankaj Singh.

Delhi govt. appoints 1,388 nurses; rolls out Ayushman vans to strengthen health services

The Delhi government on Sunday (July 6, 2025) handed appointment letters to 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical staff, and flagged off Ayushman Bharat registration vans to help eligible residents, especially from the weaker sections, to enrol for the Ayushman Bharat and Vaya Vandana Yojana schemes. At a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda called the appointments a 'historic initiative' that bridges a 15-year gap in Delhi's healthcare recruitment. 'This is not just a recruitment drive but a turning point, marking the beginning of a new era of specialist human resources in the Capital's healthcare system,' he said. Mr. Nadda said Delhi was now reaping the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which the previous government had failed to implement. 'We are now moving from treatment to prevention. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will offer free screening for multiple diseases. This is a holistic, sensitive and pre-emptive approach, far ahead of cosmetic schemes like Mohalla Clinics,' he said. He also credited the 'double-engine government' for driving reforms and addressing long-neglected employment and healthcare issues. Policy shift Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of letting Delhi's health infrastructure collapse and alleged corruption in both the Mohalla Clinics initiative and hospital expansion projects. 'Earlier, Delhi had only 0.42 hospital beds per 1,000 people. In 38 hospitals, there were just six MRI and 12 CT scan machines. Patients were regularly turned away due to medicine shortages,' she said. Highlighting her government's progress, Ms. Gupta said 34 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have already been inaugurated, with many more coming up this month. 'We plan to add 100 Arogya Mandirs every month and aim to complete all 1,150 by March next year,' she said. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said more than 4 lakh people have been registered under Ayushman Bharat in the Capital, including over 2 lakh senior citizens above 70. 'Already, 2,258 patients have availed themselves of treatment under the scheme. Currently, 108 hospitals in Delhi are empanelled under Ayushman Bharat, and the number continues to grow,' he said.

1,300 nurses appointed in Delhi govt hospitals; Ayushman vans launched

The Delhi government on Sunday appointed over 1,300 new nursing officers and launched Ayushman Bharat registration vans to strengthen the healthcare system in the national capital. The event was attended by BJP president J P Nadda, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Health Minister Pankaj Singh, and other senior ministers. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Gupta sharply criticised the previous government, alleging that it had allowed the capital's health infrastructure to deteriorate significantly. "In the past, Delhi's healthcare was in such a poor state that there were only 0.42 hospital beds available per 1,000 people, she said. In 38 hospitals, there were only six MRI machines and 12 CT scan machines. Patients were frequently turned away due to a shortage of medicines, she added. Gupta further alleged widespread corruption under the Mohalla Clinics initiative. There was corruption in medicine procurement and hospital construction 22 hospitals were announced but never completed, she claimed. Speaking on the status of Arogya Mandirs, she stated that over ?1,700 crore was provided by the central government to the previous administration over a five-year period for their construction, but the funds remained unutilised. Now, it is my responsibility to ensure that all 1,150 Arogya Mandirs are completed in the remaining months, Gupta said. She added that 34 Arogya Mandirs have already been inaugurated, with several more to follow this month. We plan to add 100 Arogya Mandirs every month and aim to complete all 1,150 by March next year, she said. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh, addressing the newly appointed staff, said their contribution would be crucial in strengthening the city's healthcare system. These nurses and health workers will become the backbone of a new, robust healthcare structure in the capital, he said. Singh also noted that nearly 4 lakh people have been registered under Ayushman Bharat in Delhi, including more than 2 lakh senior citizens above the age of 70. As many as 2,258 patients have already availed treatment under the scheme, he said. BJP president J P Nadda congratulated the new appointees and termed the occasion a historic moment. After 15 years, these nursing officers have finally received job security. This was not the result of a mere government order it is the outcome of the people of Delhi choosing the BJP, he said. He criticised the previous government for its alleged inaction across departments, especially in the health sector. Nadda pointed out that ?1,700 crore allocated in 2021 for improving Delhi's health infrastructure remained unused by the former administration. Now, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's leadership, it is our responsibility to ensure this amount is fully utilised in the next eight months to complete the Ayushman Mandirs, he said. Nadda also highlighted that since September 2017, the Modi government has approved free treatment of up to ?5 lakh for nearly 40 lakh residents of Delhi, particularly those living in slums and underprivileged areas. But the previous government blocked its implementation. Now, we are making it a reality, he added.

Mohalla clinics may become Arogya Mandir's sub-centres

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is considering converting Mohalla Clinics operating from porta cabins into sub-centres of Arogya Mandirs, in line with the Centre's Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (AB-HIM), officials privy to the matter said. According to officials, training for staff who will be deployed at these centres is set to begin next month. In April, the Delhi government announced the closure of 250 Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics operating from rented premises across the city and the establishment of Arogya Mandirs in nearby locations to replace them. However, for the remaining Mohalla Clinics, converting them into full-fledged Arogya Mandirs appears unfeasible due to space constraints and other operational challenges. 'It was discussed in a meeting held last month, where PWD said shifting Mohalla Clinics in porta cabins would involve significant cost. So, keeping that in mind, there is a proposal to turn them into sub-centres of Arogya Mandirs, where basic primary healthcare services will be provided,' said a government official. Additionally, cancer screening is set to begin in Arogya Mandirs, officials said. 'Medical officers from Arogya Mandirs have been asked to submit a list of staff. Once compiled, they will be trained in cancer screening at a government hospital,' official added.

A directive from the Delhi State Health Mission instructed medical officers to ensure these are placed in all newly inaugurated Arogya Mandirs. This may be treated as compulsory as per direction of the Mission Director, DSHM,' a directive circulated to all CDMO read.
